I think/hope it was like that because Apple+ is not Netflix and they knew ahead of time they’d be guaranteed enough seasons to tell the entire show without fear of being cancelled. They had a whole season to tell about 250 pages of story so they had spare screen time to do more world building. I think more of the world building in the books is in the back half of book 1 but mostly in book 2
Spolier from book 2 Spoiler how do you think they will sequence the show with the timelines of book 2? I’ve been thinking about this while getting to the last quarter of book 2 and from a tv show perspective I think they should bring Donald and co in at the beginning of season with first episode being everything through the bomb and then alternate story lines until they connect (assuming they do by the end of book 2).
Spoiler I’ve read a couple of different ways on Reddit that people had decent ideas of. I think it would work if they did the pre-silo stuff first up until the big “convention” up until the point where Donald gets knocked unconscious (I think that was what happened) and then jump to him waking up as Troy for his shift at the start of book 2. Without the mystery factor they can’t really do the big reveal unless they were to show one of the storylines in 1st person which just isn’t feasible. the other option is to forego the Donald vs Troy stuff altogether and just have Troy’s shift ongoing and the Donald stuff as flashbacks. I’d prefer they not go this route since actual flashbacks that happen to him on shift are part of his character progression. Spoiler: connection IIRC the stories only loosely connect until the very end of book 2 and then book 3 is everything happening on the same timeline. The only real connections in books 1&2 story is more with Solo’s Silo
So I just finished season 1 yesterday and holy moly. I think I understand but I still have so many questions lmao. Sounds like I need to read the books before season 2 drops
Apple has the chance to do the funniest greatest thing ever by releasing Severance and Silo back to back this year
Goddamnit not more Common. There's so much to do in Season 2 without wasting time on a completely made-up for TV storyline Spoiler I guess he kinda has a few scenes to play a part in during the rebellion but goddamnit we don't need more bullshit about his family
it's horrendous. the scene where he confronts her in Walker's room is the worst scene in Season 1. I don't really mind the character either, so long as they don't keep wasting screen time on his family that doesn't exist in the books. Making up drama for TV when the source material has plenty of legitimate, good drama to go around is my biggest TV pet peeve
The great thing apple did with Slow Horses, on top of it being so good, was they shoot two seasons at once and release them faster.
Spoiler the dude who is the only survivor from other silo who went a bit crazy living by himself for a long ass time, he may have been young when everyone else died too i think
Apologies afb thought you read books for some reason, it’s not a big spoiler tho will likely be in first episode and I haven’t read books in like a decade. Anyways great casting
Just finished the second book and holy moly I cannot wait to get my hands on the third. Ready for this second season something fierce!
Dang. I just finished the first book. I Didnt feel the need to hop right into the 2nd. But maybe I do now.
Does apple release at a specific time on Friday night or will it be available at some point in the wee hours tonight?
Episode followed the tone of the book pretty well but not sure about the "first contact" scene. Spoiler: book Doesn't she go into the farm and leave the knife holding the door open and she comes back and the knife is gone and then her and Solo fight it out for a little bit before she chases him into his bunker? wolfpck probably the most familiar since he's read it more recently than anyone else
Enjoyed the episode…just happy it’s back Agreed the pacing was slow for a season premiere but whatevs. An episode with no Common in it is a win
Glad it’s back and we didn’t have to wait 3 years for the next season. It’s clear they’re trying to fit the second half of book one into this season, and I didn’t mind the extra exposition Spoiler I’ll call it for Juliette once she reached the second silo. I will admit her crawling into the stairs for the hatch door and sliding down dead bodies gave me the heebs
They're condensing the books into 4 seasons so there's most likely going to be more flashbacks from the abandoned silo's history in this season IMO. That rebellion scene that opened up the episode was somewhere in the 2nd half of Book 2 IIRC
Oh cool I didn't know that. Will be very interested in seeing how they do Spoiler Solo's flashbacks with the uprising and his early times by himself in the Server room bunker .
whole first episode just felt like a slow build into whatever they were going to reveal at the end. we already knew Juliette was an resourceful survivor. we didn't need to see 30 minutes of it again. whatever though, happy it's back.
Also - since they're only doing 4 seasons, I wonder how much they'll get into Spoiler Donald/Trey & Anna/Thurman history about the start/creating and operation from Silo 1
I'm hoping the contents of that spoiler is an entire season by itself. But more likely scenario is they begin telling Book 3's story and use a shit ton of flashbacks to tell Book 2. We're already seeing them start it right now I have a feeling they're gonna do that due to the issue of trying to do a mid-show season that has zero of the main characters in it. The show will go straight from the end of book 1 to beginning of book 2 and we'll get a lot of flashbacks in season 3
I'm damn near positive she didn't have to build a makeshift bridge in the books. That was definitely completely unnecessary and just added more "TV drama" ie - the dramatic water falling scene. I don't think any of that was source material. Kinda like Common's entire story in general. The source material has enough dramatic shit I hate when TV shows add more drama just for show when there's plenty available that actually made sense in the original storytelling
