It is all pretty simple. Below 20-30ppm cyanuric acid or above 100ppm (some people say 150-200) you are asking for a bad time. The more chlorine you have in your pool, the more you are going to fuck shit up if you alkalinity is not in range. Most problems with ruining equipment occur when people, homeowner or “professional,” dose the same amount of chlorine weekly and forget to keep up on alklinity and pH. Those be the buffers, for the equipment and the body. It is that simple. Oh, and never put tabs, liquid chlorine, or fucking shock in your fucking skimmer. That is like the equipment taking a chug of Sprite when it thinks it is chugging water. But instead of coughing and choking, metal in the equipment starts oxidizing and falling apart. Thank you for listening to pperc and my pool chemical Ted Talk. Zack Zedalis will be along shortly to thump us both on the head or give us a thumbs up.
You know I don’t do those things, but I did shock my pool with 78% cal hypo so I am pretty much a wizard.
Tbh, I probably check my levels once every 2 weeks because I know how my pool responds generally. I add some acid to lower pH once a week and I dial in my salt water chlorine generator to maintain the right amount of chlorine in my pool relative to my cyanuric acid level. It’s pretty easy at this point.
Gotta put this out there, a.tramp is a saint. I woke up yesterday to my pump surging, turned it off cleaned the crap out of the skimmer buckets and turned it back on to hear the worst noise I have heard in a long time. Called tramp and we had it diagnosed quickly to what those in the medical field call it "pump be fucked". He set me up with a guy to get the stuff re-plumbed and installed this week. I can't wait to try out all my brand new Hayward equipment! Told me he recommended that as its "great job security". But for real I can't wait to get the new Pentair Itelliflow3 setup and running.
This air relief valve snapped in half at threads on my air filter today. I barely even tightened it and it snapped. Order a new one below that’s going to run me $25 after shipping. Anyone know any other options on where to get these? Would a Lowe’s or Home Depot carry and can I still run my hut tub without this? a.tramp https://www.pdcspaparts.com/pdc-spas-air-relief-valve.html
That does not show dimensions but to me that looks like a standard drain plug for most pumps/heaters. If so you can just get a standard threaded plug at a hardware store to get you back up and going. But getting the correct one is the difference between being able to remove by hand vs getting tools out.
I got the threaded part out. I ordered one but didn’t want to wait for it to come in. I may run to a hardware store with the pieces I have and check. Thanks.
How you plan on keeping that horse out of the pool? If it gets in frequently, be prepared to clean filters frequently and consider getting a UV sanitizer to neutralize contaminates and assist with basic sanitation. An average size dog in the pool is equivalent to a 50 person bathing load and we all know that is not an average size dog.
My parents raised Bernards when I grew up. Pretty sure in your weather situation he will become a fish. And I would let him. So hot and humid. Ain’t no thing really. You he UV sanitizer neutralizes fecal matter contaminates which would be the chief concern with a kid.
A little annoyed at the travertine. We really wanted a very light grey but this stuff changes color all day. In the morning with a yellow sunrise it turns beige. Midday in clear light its cool grey in most places. At sunset it's back beige. We really wanted to avoid beige but it doesn’t look bad.
Link me to this sanitizer please. And yea my wife thinks he'll be in it all the time. How the hell do we dry him off to go back inside? He looooved the cold dirt. Our house did not.

I'm wondering what cleaning tech he has at all for dirt/etc. so many nooks and crannies and different surface heights chlorine will neutralize sufficiently unless it's way too low like we discussed before. which it probably will be.
how often are they coming? you'll probably need cleaning in between cleanings so is there a pressure side pool cleaner or are you planning to buy a robotic dolphin cleaner?
i don’t deal in robotics and only see one on about every 200th pool here in Dallas. All my dealings are with pressure side cleaners that are supplied by plumbing built into pool and its own axillary sweep pump. consumer reports is best friend in this matter or someone other than me.
I have no idea what a pressure side cleaner is. Should I contact my builder to see if they built that shit in?
OK I'm dumb in this stuff bc this is a robot to me. Polaris Vac-Sweep 360 Pressure Inground Pool Cleaner, Triple Jet Powered with a Single Chamber Debris Bag https://a.co/d/ey9Kw1y
That requires a dedicated line to pool. But that model does not have its own pump. It requires diverting water away from filter and takes water that is meant for filtration and circulation to use cleaner.
Robotics are electric, either chargeable or corded. And of course they have bluetooth models now that are controllable by phone.
Is the side cleaner better than the robot? I'm reading up on the differences now. This is what my guy said: You have a vac line which would be considered a suction line and it goes back directly to the pump.
if the pump and plumbing isn't already there it's too late. Contact Marina Pool, Spa, and Patio in Colorado and talk to them about the best robotic pool cleaner given your build. They are awesome and pricing is best in the country. I can talk to you about options if you want if you have questions. There is way to put it in automation mode, leave it in the pool, and put a wifi based plug that turns on/off at your specified times.
since you will have weekly cleaning you could just drop a robot in when it gets dirty due to wind/rain between cleanings and you want to clean it before swimming or people coming over. takes 2 hours for a full cleaning cycle and works well. my pool is fairly basic so i have a Dolphin Active20
Yea I'm reading that robots are the most expensive but consume less enegery and don't use the pump and filter like the others. I'll read up on the robots. I'm sure there's one that's automated through an app that I can set to rub daily. Just need to find one that climbs walls and gets into the seating area we have.
Looking at these right now Dolphin Nautilus CC Supreme Robotic Pool Vacuum Cleaner with Wi-Fi Control — Wall Climbing Capability — Powerful Waterline Scrubbing — Ideal for In-Ground Pools up to 50 FT in Length https://a.co/d/aBddAz3 Polaris VRX iQ+ Smart Robotic Pool Cleaner with iAquaLink Control, Extra Long 70' Cable w/Tangle reducing Swivel, Large Debris Canister and 7 Cleaning Modes https://a.co/d/cr42WZO
if you buy on amazon you do not get the 2 year warranty from Dolphin or Polaris. definitely contact and go through Marina.
A vac line can be converted to a sweep line but it is a permanent conversion, in so much as that it would require reconfiguring the plumbing. And you would have to get a pump. Research Robotics and don’t look back. Something tells me that vac line is going to be good to have unless your area of the state is somehow immune to hurricanes and torrential rainfall.
they can all be automated. i don't even use the app. i used to have a robot that did bluetooth, app, etc. and i never used it. i just automate it with a wifi plug that turns on the electricity and off at my set times and that runs the robot which i leave in the pool most of the time (unless we are swimming)
