This was my first ever live draft. It's a ten team league with a snaking drat order. I had the ninth overall pick. Rd 1 Pick 9 - Frank Gore, RB, San Francisco Rd 2 Pick 2 - Andrew Johnson, WR, Houston Rd 3 Pick 9 - Ryan Matthews, RB, San Diego Rd 4 Pick 2 - Matt Ryan, QB, Atlanta Rd 5 Pick 9 - Percy Harvin, WR, Minnesota Rd 6 Pick 2 - Anquan Boldin, WR, Baltimore Rd 7 Pick 9 - Vernon Davis, TE, San Francisco Rd 8 Pick 2 NY Jets Defense Rd 9 Pick 9 - Joe Flacco, QB, Baltimore Rd 10 Pick 2 - CJ Spiller, RB, Buffalo Rd 11 Pick 9 - Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Detroit Rd 12 Pick 2 - Roy Williams, WR, Chicago Rd 13 Pick 9 - Reggie Bush, RB, Miami Rd 14 Pick 2 - Stephen Gostkowski, K, New England Rd 15 Pick 9 - Jon Beason, LB, Carolina Rd 16 Pick 2 - Robert Meachum, WR, New Orleans I took Gore because he's a lone running back in a run oriented offense. I know his injury concerns but he was the easy pick there because I was going to get Andre Johnson at #12 no doubt about it, and I wasn't taking a QB in the first round. If he stays healthy, I won't regret the pick as much. Kind of had to make it though. I reached kind of far for Matt Ryan based on the hopes that he is an efficient QB with two lethal WR threats, the best TE of all time and an amazing RB behind him. That and I liked him a lot more than Schaub, Raplisberger, Freeman, and Romo. Percy Harvin was a reach in that as a WR he was rated #22 overall at his position. But his point production last year was #3 at the WR position in our league. I took Goskowski in the 14th because he's the kicker I wanted, and it started a run on Kickers. I took Roy Williams because Chicago i going to have to have a WR with numbers and I think he might be motivated enough to sit his ass on the bench and play during a bye week for me. Beason was an easy pick simply because we had someone doing auto pick and Patrick Willis went in the 8th round to him because he had to fill up roster spots for starters first. Meachum was my Mr Irrelevant and I already am trying to pick up Braylon Edwards on Waivers. We'll see if I regret it. I kind of want to get Thomas Jones too in hopes that Jammal Charles goes down.
Not going to lie to you, ton of reaches in the draft and a lot of questions on the overall team. Gore as RB1 is risky, what's the handcuff? Without a solid RB1 Mathews is a huge risk as an RB2. And then waiting til Round 10 for your third RB (and it being Spiller) leaves you very exposed overall at RB. Johnson is a beast, and I think Boldin will do well in his second year. Harvin will always have the health question marks and it remains to be seen how effective that offense is this year. I think you'll have to rotate Ryan and Flacco, because I don't think either of those guys are the type you can just plug in and leave them as your QB1 for the season.
Yeah, Gore was the only option as a RB 1 when I picked. MJD went right before because of an auto pick (which was bullshit) and I wanted him at #9. But with Gore, if he stays healthy, he is the only option there so it's all going to depend on that. Matthews again was drafted more because of the lack around than me wanting him. I picked him over Williams (auto draft right ahead of me again) and I was going to pick up Stewart later but wanted to fill my TE spot and then went I cam eback around I took the JETS D instead.
As long as Goskowski doesn't go down with another injury, he should produce a lot for a kicker. Was so bad when he went down for the Pats. Risky on FG's and I don't think I saw one kick go into the end zone on kickoffs after that.
