I have a somewhat irrational fear of slipping on ice...big tree fall hard. Bought some wrap-around spikes that go over my boots when I'm going to be walking around a lot /Northernthings
Fell twice this morning in boots. Went back to the car for golf shoes and had zero issues afterwards.
Only issue I’ve ever had is having to knock chunks of ice out of the spikes every now and then. Tried a true footwear for the last several snows.
The CVS my wife works at had a drunk driver pass out and drive through the front entrance Monday night after close. The front of the store is fucked. They told her to come on into work yesterday. The district manager had to beg corporate to close at 4pm so the staff could safely get home. It took her over 2 hours to drive about 35 miles. Roads are even worse today and the local EMA is begging people to stay off the roads. They told her to come on in. CVS working hard to get on that Luigi list.
I think I made it to ATL just in time yesterday for my flight. Left our Airbnb way early bc the snow picked up and we were staying in Decatur. Got really icy on the ramps off to get into the airport... Uber driver said it was his first time on ice but he did a good job. If we would have left 30-60 min later I doubt we get there. Total shitshow
the snow slowly melting to turn my beautiful backyard into a swampy nightmare is not going to be fun for me the next 24 hours
we should have coordinated. We were also staying in Decatur with friends and had rented a car. Our flight out was 6pm (although with the de’icing queue it didn’t leave until almost 9pm).
He was driving some Suburban with no AWD/4WD option, just skidding around. My dad and I had to walk him through every move and I almost asked to just let me drive. He was super nice and grateful for the help but very clueless on wtf to do
One of my favorite things to do when I was younger was get a rope behind a jeep or 4 wheeler and get a sled or a wok and have them pull you down the street or through fields through the snow. We are definitely idiots down here when it snows (and also when it doesn’t)
My Son has been stuck in the Atlanta airport going on 26 hours. He's lived in the south towns of Buffalo for 10 years and is amazed how badly it's paralyzed down south right now. -15° in Northeast Pa. this morning.
Not breaking news, we just aren't built to deal with it. Drop a hurricane in Illinois and it would go as well as snow in Florida.
Oh yeah, I refrain from the insults. I wouldn't know what to do in a hurricane. Plus, it paralyzes our communities when it gets so bad they call the plows in. There's no justification to invest in the public infrastructure to handle weather that barely ever happens. Just gas up your car, slow down, and take extra clothing.
Ice is the problem here more than snow. This particular event was made worse bc we didn’t get above freezing afterwards.
My county actually got out and salted the roads last night so everything cleared up when the sun came out. Anything with shade is still a mess.
It was genuine amazement, not derision or mocking. Just amazed that what was normal in his world was so show stopping there. He's 31, but was raised right and has a good head on his shoulders. Apologies if it came off differently.
Sorry, my comments weren't directed at him, just in general. A lot of people, some on this board, are quick with "what's the issue? We do this daily!" when they'd freak the fuck out at a hurricane or an earthquake in their area.
Oh I was hearing that here in SC with all the northern transplants. They were the main ones I was worried about being on the roads and having issues with my business being closed today.
