I wouldn't worry about it. We texans are known to handle weather events pretty well. Spoiler I just spent the last hour researching ways to heat a house without power
Philly airport will be completely fine by then. Probably fine now tbh. Maybe flights from the west/ DC / Baltimore still impacting schedules sure but philly airport isn’t going to be an issue
I could’ve turned around, but the sheriff was adamant that I don’t do that like the 20ish other cars behind us so he directed me to pull off to the side where the snow was deeper to “let others pass.” After two sheriffs realized they lost control of the situation and everyone was doing it, they told me to try it. They tried pushing my truck while I hit the accelerator but it was just too deep.
in 2013 we had a similarly huge snowstorm and the wife and I lived just south of downtown in an apartment. we got stir crazy after a while and just wandered around downtown in our winter gear for a while. it was like a surreal day after tomorrow apocalypse vibe
I’ve got a great picture of a stranded and abandoned Chicago Police Department SUV from the 2011 Snowmageddon in Chicago. Somewhere.
This is less funny than I imagined it. The mental picture I had was you getting stuck and dialing 911 or some shit.
I saw a couple walking around in the snowfall yesterday and they seemed to really be enjoying themselves and taking it all in. They even stopped and the girlfriend took a selfie with the boyfriend. I wanted to punch them in the face because I’m jealous.
You should be good then, I was concerned you were flying in for a business meeting or something. Worst case scenario, depending on the timing you could connect through Charlotte or Miami. AA runs routes from LAS to Tallahassee through both of those hubs. I am hearing the snow shouldn't start until late Wednesday night which would most likely start after you already connected and left.
Using wundergrounds forecast at 8pm there’s a 10% of precipitation and by 11pm there’s a 45%. If there’s any delay I feel like I’m fucked but that may just be my anxiety fucking with me
Semi was pulled over. 2 cars were in front of me and slammed on their brakes because apparently they were scared and I lost all momentum going up a hill.
I haven’t had a call since 11:00, so anyone betting the under is looking good. Im sure it’s probably because her and my 14 year old son are shoveling the driveway though, without me reminding them to do it and definitely not after driving over it multiple times to make it packed ice.
damn, was really hoping you were a truck driver. anyways, hope you can get it running and out of the snow.
You need to cross Colorado off your list of 48 states you still want to visit, now that you have been to Pennsylvania.
Something my dumbass just realized. I dont have to fly through DFW. I'll just swap flights again and go through CLT even though I hate it
Latest thinking from WPC (national center). I can poke around for DFW/local NWS office weather stories too
Give it 24 hours. Almost always there is a weather event like this, around 24 hours out, they will start letting you change flights to avoid airports effected. It has happened to me multiple times simply because of thunderstorms or other reasons. If you have the AA app, they normally will push an update letting you know you can make changes free of charge once they start realizing there is going to be an impact.
My brother in law just came and my car is dead because sergeant dipshit forced me to leave my blinkers on. Getting jumper cables from Home Depot
We watched a YouTube video on the side of the road to figure out how to jump the car and my brother in law about had a heart attack when he attached the ground to my car and it sparked. We were struggling to get my car out and it seemed like it was almost a lost effort and then it dawned on me I had been in a similar situation in the past and I turned off the traction control and she was able to get enough momentum to get out of the deep stuff. We tried our best to shovel but it’s just too much snow. Couldn’t get my car to my house but it’s parked in my neighborhood so idgaf. Pretty thankful for my brother in law tonight
I feel like we had a jumper cable discussion in the last snowpocalypse thread, or maybe it was the Texas grid thread. 1. Red to dead
I've probably never connected cables in the exact right order, but I've done it enough to know when they can spark if touched. No judgment, but how old is your brother-in-law?
Throw a couple boxes/bags of cat litter or sand in your trunk for the winter...can get you enough traction in a pinch
One of my favorite pasttimes is going out to bucees in a blizzard late at night, I'll get a bbq sandwich then post up in a stall and sleep until breakfast and by that time the roads are usually plowed enough to get back home
