That's amazing. The autograph was on card too, not one of those stickers. It was definitely some sort of donruss auto parallel because it had that rated rookie on it. May not have been an optic, can't remember for sure. I didn't want to make the guy nervous and hold it for too long. The 1 of 1 was printed on the back, not the usual stamp you see for numbered cards
Picked up more boxes today. Really only excited about the Molitor. Pretty upset about the redemption card (2013) for a /25 Griffey Sr auto. I fucking want it!
Obviously there isn't much overlap between the gun thread and this one. Tatertot is probably saving money by putting his handgun habit on hold for a few weeks to collect baseball cards.
Today has been a good day so far. Opened a box of Topps Chrome Baseball and pulled this Ohtani /25. And then got my Giannis back from PSA:
I love the discussion here, but if you guys want more of a fix: https://www.blowoutforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20 Box breaks from all three sports.
Not sure if this has been asked before, but are any of you aware of a decent and free price guide to casually look up some values online? Or perhaps an app even? I've done a little searching online thus far and nothing is really standing out. TIA
Bought a topps clearly authentic box because I was browsing this thread and was very disappointed to get a Clint Frazier autograph card and that’s it. Was expecting to be able to open some packs of cards.
Was looking for something similar but haven't seen anything. Looking up individual shit on eBay is a bit of a hassle. Might spend the 10-20 bucks for a beckett for casual value checks
Very nice score! I bought two boxes today, one 2018 Topps Inception and one 2018 Toppe Triple Threads. Nothing worth writing home about, Inception had an auto of some Cardinal loser Sandy Alcantara and a couple # cards like a Judge /99 (Fuck the Yankees). The Triple box had a Stephen Piscotti threads/auto /99. Miguel Cabrera threads /27, Alex Bregman threads /27 and a Corey Kluber threads/auto numbered to 9.
Shops here sell old Becketts for $5, I picked up last months because I noticed it has an article or something about 1984 Donruss and an article about the Billy Ripken Fuck Face debacle that has always intrigued me. Haven't had time to read it because I'm too busy opening cards.
Still can't believe orange county has like 2 card shops. The angels are huge in this community, yet no card shops. Rent must be astronomical or something.
Noticed the targets are running out of the 2018 update stuff. Want to get a couple and find some ohtani before they're gone. I guess I could order them on Amazon too
Zetterberg used to sign cards sent to his agent, his agent would gather them all up, have Z sign them all and then stick them back in envelopes randomly. I sent him a random common card and got back the Young Guns card signed. Randomly was looking at cards online and seeing his young gun card going for $200+ consistently. If I sent it to get graded, would it he downgraded for being autographed?
Both of those appear to be autographed cards though, like signed by the card company before put in a pack. My card is this But Zetterberg signed the card after the fact, not sure if that makes a difference.
I believe you can have them certify it "authentic" or you can have them certify authenticity and grade the auto itself. Not sure if they'll grade card and auto for those.
This. Beckett might say a card is worth $40. But if 10 of that same card have sold on ebay for $20-25, then the true value of the card is what it will sell for in an open market.
They would grade the card by itself but also add an "Autograph Authentic" on the label of the slabbed case. Oddly enough, cards signed in person from personal collections are worth less than cards that are mass-signed for the card companies. I was trying to explain this phenomenon to my wife last week and she didn't quite understand it. And I'm not sure I even understand it but it's the world we live in.
Only problem is they don't really say what the good cards are. They just say Awesome hit!!! That random other card is pretty good too.
Has anyone been to a card show lately? Hard to imagine they are anything like before. There's one coming up in Oregon and I'm tempted.
No but I've watched a few youtube videos of them in other parts of the country and it seems in some areas they're pretty good. I think they'll say head of time how many dealers or tables will be there. I'd go and check it out unless it's a hefty admission fee for some reason....or it's not close by.
I was feeling nostalgic so I bought a box of 1999 Flair Showcase Football to open. What a beautiful product that was. Pulled a McNabb Legacy Collection RC /99 and a Culpepper RC /1999, along with an Eddie George Shrine Time /1500 and Ricky Williams First Rounders insert. I'll never forget opening a box of that stuff on Christmas morning and pulling a Tim Couch RC /1999. At the time, Beckett had it listed at $200 or $250 and I thought I had hit the jackpot. My brother pulled Edgerrin James and McNabb in his box. Turns out his box was much better than my Couch and Cecil Collins box. /csb
Went to one at the Anaheim Convention Center when I was in college in 2005 or so. That's where I bought those Bowman and Bowman Chrome boxes that ended up not being worth shit. Fuck the Upton brothers for not amounting to anything.
Yeah I was on the hunt for his Topps error card in retail packs. Walmart had just came to my city and grabbed like $50-100 worth of the retail blister packs hunting for it. Obviously didn’t get it. I’ve got a few of his RCs I think. Probably not worth shit.
I think you may be missing some context clues in my wording of city and the my fan of outside of Auburn and Manchester United.
Just remembered that I had a Teixiera low numbered RC from a high end Upper Deck brand, I think SP that I pulled graded on sight. Graded out a 9.5 and put that shit on EBay as soon as I got home. Think it went for around ~$500 and had beer money the next fall for a few weeks.
I need to find my SP stuff, the early SP sells for a decent amount, I saw a 9.5 Jeter go for over 6k on ebay. I don't want any card show/community graded shit, I want the proper PSA or Beckett grading. It'll probably be easier for me to just buy the pre-graded items I want rather than try to send all my old shit in and wait forever for it to come back. Plus the possibility of getting mediocre grades.
Been buying some retail 2018 topps traded. No crazy inserts but got several various rookie cards for Acuna, Ohtani, Soto and others. Pretty cool. Also got numbered inserts for Babe Ruth and Jackie Robinson. Nice looking cards. Better than 2019. Also I forget if I mentioned but in a couple of those $5 Fairfield boxes at Target I got a Shaq topps rookie card and a Garnett upper deck collectors choice rookie card. Not bad for those cheap things! You can pretty much look at the see through side to tell if one has a "hit" too, which is usually a relic card. Did that tonight and got a Bobby Portis rookie Jersey relic card. Fun for 5 bucks. The shop I went to last weekend had a graded 86 topps Bonds and 89 donruss griffey for $8 and $10 respectively. Think I'll go back and snag them if they're still there tomorrow
That Jeter SP is one of the most difficult cards to get a good grade on. According to PSA's Pop Report, there have been 14,513 of them graded. Only 22 have gotten a 10 and 588 have gotten a 9, which accounts for only 4.2% of the population.
Getting my Kris Bryant refractor auto redemption back from Topps finally. Was in 2018 topps finest. Continuing my long line of Kris Bryant auto and relic cards. Seems he’s the only guy I ever pull.
I was surprised when my dying old town got a Super Walmart complete with zaxbys and bojangles. The town's still not big enough for a chick fila. Sad.
After I got home from the card show and card shops I was moving some shit around upstairs and noticed a Jeter high school card/set.
