Its getting addicting, has just enough of that gambling factor but also plays on your emotions when it comes to your favorite teams. I just looked and I see A-holes are selling those 1st edition packs for more than double the price already.
My biggest issue will be picking when/what I buy. My guess is I will buy a box every couple months, along with packs I find at Walmart/Target, while getting in on team breaks and finding singles I like. I need to build up an inventory of newer stuff so I can try and trade for stuff, as that seems to be a popular avenue as well. And you will 100% see the upsale. It’s the worst part of this hobby
I think I’m leaning towards going more with the singles and once and awhile getting in on some breaks, and also getting and occasional box.
One of the down sides of working from home, is that the Targets by work are the ones that had good selection.

$1,800 a box right now. Guy doing the break last night was selling player slots for 8.99 worth the gamble if you have the funds
Depends on the break. Some are team, some are player The one in speaking if there’s ~167 players in the set I believe. So he priced it out how he wanted and it was 9/slot and if your player hit you get it. If it’s a dual/triple/quad, they do a random draw of the people with that player

Case #388 that the card market is insane right now: Ken Griffey Jr. 1989 Upper Deck RC in a PSA 10, which were going for $500 a month ago, are now going for $1,300-$1,500 in the past week. This is truly bizarre.
I’m brand spanking new to this collecting again and I and noticed that too, like a few weeks ago spots in some of these breaks were going for 60-70 dollars. Now just to get into a half break some guys are paying double that. I picked the worst possible time to try and collect again.
To get into those breaks, yes. But if you are collecting for the super rare elite card, do it. I prefer quantity over quality
Right now Me and the boy are just after autograph cards and relic cards of players we like. Is it wiser to just build up stock cause most the cards I’m purchasing are in the 10-30 dollar range, or just go after the top cards?
Really just depends on what you want/can afford. If you’re searching for players you like it’s always smarter to buy singles IMO, as the chances of getting what you’re hunting in packs is slimmer odds. I’m beginning to collect Royals guys I like, but will still buy/open packs just to satisfy the pack thirst

The most simple answer is to collect what you like. Collect players, teams, and cards that you look at and think "this card is awesome". With the recent surge of cards I'd typically buy, I've shifted toward nostalgia stuff and have been buying a lot of mid-to-late 90's stuff like cool baseball inserts/parallels, Edgerrin James, Torry Holt, Champ Bailey, Randy Moss, etc. Mail days have become quite fun.
I did the same. Bought hundreds of dollars of packs from walmart, target, and hobby. Got the most satisfaction buying lots from ebay or facebook groups. Breaks were ok, but will leave you disappointed most of the time. I still suggest we do breaks on here. Can probably convince santa to open on camera and distribute lol
I'd get in on a break on here, football or basketball. I've been buying singles of fsu players, loading up on Brian burns, Derwin rookies lately, and now cam akers
I did gamecocks, cowboys, braves, and then mahomes, favre, rodgers, etc. The big name qbs. Got 45 mahomes that tripled in value
I've got a lot of Mahomes as well but it'll always sting that I didn't buy more of him. As a Chiefs fan, we had only known heartache so we didn't believe we would ever have an elite QB so I sure as hell wasn't going to jinx him and buy up a bunch of his stuff. I wish I had a National Treasures RPA or Contenders Auto .
