Very nice. I had a 00 Fleer GOTG Ryan auto and I think it was a short print (or at least short auto'd). Gave it to my nephew when I got out of the hobby.
Fuck Hrbek! Chuck was cool. Actually hung out with him when I was a kid. Nice guy. That was before he became a Yankee though.
Had the opportunity to go down on the field and met Kirby when I was about 9 years old. He was nice and was also one of my fav players growing up. Grew up with all those Twins.
Many take issue with Kirby and Chuck's history with domestic violence. Hrbek's crime, while not on the same level as domestic violence, is still pretty grotesque. #Atlanta Braves
Ordered 4 boxes of stuff last night. Noticed a card shop in town today so I stopped in and bought a box of something I'll open tonight. I have no idea what I'm doing or buying. There can't be any kids left into cards, all the packs seem to be $20+ each.
There are high end stuff and then the cheaper packs. Panini one is $129 and has one damn card in it. Meanwhile you can get your favorite players on base and inserts like Donruss for 4.99 for a 30 pack. Depends on wants
Apparently the box I bought was minor league. I have no idea who any of these people are other than Sheffield. Hard to see any of the numbers in the photo, one of the top row ones is #01/10. Jonathan needs to work on his penmanship.
Pretty good market for them, especially.for those trying to get them before they "make it big". For a team like the Braves with a stacked system, its awesome
Just opened a box of this last night. It's a fun low priced product. My son enjoys the hobby now (he likes jersey cards) . Tons of no names in this product. I hit a base Wander Franco though. Put it up on ebay for $80 and sold within the hour. Basically paid for the box.
Agreed , but not a huge fan of the looks of the set and I'll put that $ towards something I want to invest in. He's going to be insane though.
Just for future reference, if anyone is curious about the value of something they have or have pulled, send me a PM. I subscribe to Terapeak so I can see what stuff has sold for in the past year on ebay. You can look on ebay at completed items but I think they only keep items in their database for 2 months. And they also don't show the actual amount that "best offer" items sell for.
Some random thoughts after stopping off at that card shop yesterday and recently buying packs/cards again. • Beckett and PSA seem to be doing most of the grading, seen some others but they don't seem as trusted. PSA appears to do a bulk of the overall. I hear people say it's harder to find a Becket 10 than it is a PSA 10. Well duh, if PSA is doing 75% of the market that's simple math to figure out why. • I prefer PSA's way of doing things, they have a QR Code and serial number where you can look up the graded card on-line similar to MLB's authentication stickers. • A card graded PSA 9 might be $100 while the same PSA 10 card could fetch $1,000+. I have a tough time seeing much difference looking at PSA 9's and PSA 10's in person at that shop. Seems like the value is in the PSA 9's, maybe 8's if they look good enough. I wouldn't be surprised if people buy 9's and crack them open to send in and get graded again hoping for a 10. • The community graders at card shows are a joke and nobody seems to trust or want them. • 1984 Donruss are still boner inducing. • Card shops appear to be doing just fine. While in that place for 30 minutes yesterday they had non-stop foot traffic. I also found them on-line and ebay where they have a quarter million feedbacks. * • Fuck the Yankees. * = Fucking of the Yankees does not include Don Mattingly or any Yankee that wasn't a true Yankee (Clemens, Boggs, Strawberry, etc.)
There's high end and then there's Topps transcendent collection or whatever it's called. Even their wrestling cards come with a wrestlemania ticket. Edit to correct the name, also comes with a signed replica belt, WrestleMania vip party pass or something, and basically it's all signed stuff.
PSA is my preference over Beckett. It is true that a BGS 10 is harder to find than a PSA 10. But that's because BGS does their gimmicky "9.5 = Gem Mint, but their 10 = Pristine." Pristine's are pretty rare. Personally, I think they introduced that to catch up to PSA. This happens a lot. Or you can try to cross them. Buy a BGS 9 and see if they can crack it and get a PSA 9. As far as PSA 10 vs. PSA 9. If you're truly wanting a cool card and don't want to pay a ton, go for the 8's and 9's. A few years back when I decided to get back into cards I went and bought a bunch of 80's and 90's RC's in PSA 9's and am very happy with having 40-50 cool cards vs. 5-7 higher-end 10's. Raw card reviews are the biggest crock of shit.
If anyone ever gets bored, these guys https://www.facebook.com/GrandSlamCollectibles615/ do live breaks every night and you can go to their website and buy shit that they will open live. They are pretty juvenile, but also entertaining. https://onlyatgrandslam.com/
Picked up two more boxes today. Got a Josh Hader auto, handful of other autos, Pujols bat material and a 1/1 of someone named Brady Singer.
It's from that minor league stuff I was posting photos of the other day. This one is apparently a 'printing plate' or something like that, 1 of 1 and signed on the front. I can get photos once my back heals up enough to go upstairs.
The regular (non-printing plate) 1/1 autograph sold for $95. The good thing about 1 of 1's is that you can essentially set the market, so you could list it at $400 and see what kind of offers come your way. You never know, a family member might come along and give you 300 for it. This type of stuff does actually happen.
Question for anyone that uses COMC at all (unless you have a better site). Been watching the thread some and getting that desire to possibly collect singles. For COMC in particular, i've noticed prices on cards fluctuate a lot, like someone will have a card for $2.50 and someone for $5.00. Is there something wrong with the $2.50? cause there's no condition details. Looking to start off slow as it's been many many years.
Cracked a box of Topps Tribute today. Adrian Beltre Materials 1 of 99 Alex Rodriguez Materials 1 of 15 Ivan Nova Autograph 1 of 99 Andre Dawson Materials 1 of 99 Eric Hosmer Autograph 1 of 1 Matt Kemp Redemption Autograph I have another box of this shit coming in the mail.
I'm doing my best not to buy any football or basketball cards or anything non-baseball. My addiction was so bad before I was buying goddamn Disney cards and Tool cards (Sears, not band).
Haven't bought a box since the early 2000's but I'd have to imagine it isn't Actually looking back I never got an really cool inserts by luck, always had to buy them individually :(
My roommate got every damn luck ass pull all the time. He’d get the Jeter game used Jersey redemption card and I’d get the random scrub who never amounted to anything autograph card
This thread sent me down a rabbit hole trying to find out what different cards in my collection are worth. I found out that a Larry Bird/Magic Johnson rookie sold for $75,000. That sent me to the basement to look through my cards, first time in a long time, because I thought I had it. Turns out I’ve got Larry Bird in his second year, and the card looks like a 9 year old handled it through this preteen years.
Went through all my old stuff, Tons of early mid 2000's stuff. Some nicer lebron #'ed inserts and about 10 Westbrook Rookies. Apparently in 2010 I had an addiction for Bowman Chrome/ topps baseball hobby boxes. Found about 10 of them. I couldn't have waited a year those 2011's had gold in them.
