Just got an Adam Haluska Jersey relic card. Not sure this stiff ever played an NBA game. Makes me wonder where he wore this jersey to...

Although Haluska spent time with both the Hornets and the Rockets, he never actually played in an official NBA game with either team. After being released by the Rockets, Haluska played for the Iowa Energy of the D-League in 2008.[7]

I know some of these baseball jersey relics are bullshit, that's why I prefer the autographs. It wasn't that long ago players would only get one or two jerseys to wear all year. All these players up through the 70's and 80's they (card companies) have game used jersey's just laying around to cut up year after year is laughable.

From the bible of baseball jerseys:

1970-1979 (or thereabouts): Teams issued players one or two
sets of uniforms for the year, and often times used them a second
year or sent them to Spring Training or to the minor leagues to be
used until they literally fell apart. Game worn jerseys for common
players or coaches had little cachet for anyone as memorabilia in
the hobby so they generally were not saved or preserved.
Authentic jerseys made to team spec were not generally available
to the public in this time period, and demand for them is non
existent. It may seem hard to believe today, but it would have
been very strange for any adult to be seen in public wearing one
of these, even at the game. You usually had to know somebody
within the team to get one. Team-spec replicas are therefore rare.
    Low demand = low supply.

1980-1985 (or thereabouts): Just like the period above, except
now for the first time very, very limited availability of Authentic
team spec jerseys are offered to the public, but only by some
teams and these are usually sold through special team gift shops
on special order. These were certainly not mass merchandised
items; one had to be truly dedicated to try to find one. Making a
convincing copy of this era’s game worn jersey is possible, but
    requires real dedicated effort.

If anyone is interested in reading this 477 page manifesto on game jerseys let me know.

    What?

If you're still talking baseball jerseys it wasn't until the late 80's/early 90's when teams started issuing a lot of jerseys for their players.

No, the "game used" stuff on a lot of these old school relics have to be fake, no way around it.

    I'm shocked.

    https://www.beckett.com/news/two-de...probation-for-sale-of-fake-game-used-jerseys/

"Bradley Wells told agents that buyers from Panini America, Upper Deck and Topps knew they were purchasing phony game-used jerseys to insert in the premium cards, which means thousands of collectors who thought they were buying collectibles that linked them directly to their favorite athletes may have been deceived."

That's why they use terms like "event worn" on some of them.

The one I'm curious about is if the team website auctions of game worn stuff was legitimate or not.

In regards to MLB their authenticators are legit. The thing you need to watch for is if it's team issued or game worn. I know the Mariners will dump a bunch of team issued jerseys at the end of the year that may or may not have been worn, when you look up the serial number it'll tell you it's an official issued jersey. The video here shows how authentication for MLB works:

The snowflake auto from the bottom row is from WalMart. Bought two mini-boxes when I was picking some shit up, didn't realize auto's in those is like one per 30 boxes. Got pretty lucky.

Nice. There are only like 2 small shops in a 15 mile radius of me. Sucks. Back in the day there was one every couple blocks it seemed. Wish they had card shows around here.

Went to one today and bought a graded Bonds 1987 fleer and graded 1986 fleer update rookie cards for $8 each. Graded 8 and 8.5. Always liked the bonds rookie cards

Very cool! That's my next move, hitting a card show and sucking up a bunch of graded cards from the 70's and 80's. I already have most of those cards but I want graded ones without having to send mine in and waiting a month to get them back.

What I want is that 2018 Leaf Ultimate but it's near impossible to find since they only release 200 cases of it. Came out a month ago and supply dried up fast. I may have to cross the river into disease ridden Oregon to find some.

In the early 90’s, the Ohio State AD used to have an auction every spring, the weekend of the Spring Game. They sold old equipment and jerseys. That’s the first I remember collectors going nuts.

Players who had graduated used to sign for cash at events off campus, basically right before the NFL draft.

Never heard of him, I really only know about 5 minor league prospects right now. In the 80's I was a minor league nut, knew all the prospects and teams, went to many games and bought all the minor league cards I could afford.

Ok fuck it, going to Oregon to look for boxes of something.

Forgot to mention the card shop I went to...the owner had a Lula Doncic 1/1 rookie card. Think it was a donruss optic? Had it behind the counter to get graded. Gotta fetch close to $1k right? People go nuts for Doncic.

I was surprised he let me hold it. First time customer, could have ran out of the store with it.

Yeah, I don't know how much you spent on all the Leaf stuff but you've got some value there. The Mize /10 sold for $43 in auction. Just another reminder to never sell your stuff in auction if you're looking to sell. 2 other BGS 10's sold for 140. The Acuna is an easy ~$50 ungraded. Jesus Sanchez is ranked #33 on MLB's Top 100 prospect list for the year. 1 of those /15 has sold for $12.50 (auction). Again, auctions are a no-no for sellers.
