The more I read the better he sounds. Sounds like he has won everywhere he has gone even if it hasn’t been in a top European League. He plays front foot with inverted fullbacks. Seems to have a great eye for talent and recruitment as well, but how that translates at the highest level is my biggest question mark. He also doesn’t rely on the same coaching staff wherever he is in order to be successful. Really hoping we hang onto Gianni Vio if this is the case. It does look like his two top coaches are coming with him though.
Ali Gold suggested that he’s bringing some coaches because he knows he doesn’t have as long of a leash as he has been given previously, the highest pressure he’s faced to this point, so having to onboard all new coaches and players would be less than ideal. Also, Kennedy actually has been a constant at Celtic throughout several coaches, even doing a Mason caretaker spot before. So that he’s willing to come speaks volumes about Ange’s sway.
I am biased, but I think it's a good hire. he has a style of play, built a cohesive/resilient team, and has an eye for talent (though bringing in players and them being successful for Celtic in Scotland is a lot different than doing the same in the Premier League). minus a lack of European success, he had as good of tenure as one could hope.
I hope he works out. Will be interested to see how long he gets. Probably will be very dependent on if Kane stays or goes.
Lol wait did it take exactly 72 days again? But honestly, almost all of those days being where the new manager was managing another team is different from the Nuno appointment which took until July. Ange has been buys until literally three days ago so this is fine. Also, while he can have a few days in Greece to have a breather, keep your phone on so we can get right to transfer planning.
I’m thinking this personality is the perfect fit for Tottenham, but I could also see it going sideways in a hurry at the same time.
He seems like a good person and I think I like the brand of football he wants to play and I will back him 100%, but this club currently has players who were brought in for 4 separate previous managers and some of them just aren't very good. And then there's the Kane situation. No manager is going to succeed at Tottenham without some major changes to the club and how it is run. If we lose Kane this summer (or even if we don't and he leaves on a free next summer) and if Levy fucks over this manager by expecting him to shine up a turd of a roster it's obviously not going to work.
I know we saw this with China a few years ago, but it feels like the Saudis have endless funds. I can see more and more of these things becoming a reality. I can also see why they would pay big money for Sons access to the Korean market.
The more I read about him the more pleased I am. And thankfully we got this done in time for him to have a meaningful preseason. Hope a DoF is finalized soon.
I am torn on Maguire. I know he has been bad for United for the past two years, but there was a player in there at one time and he still heavily factors into the England squad. If you can get a homegrown player for cheap, the question is does he upgrade you on Dier? Does he help with Kane?
Only way I'd sign Maguire is if we get Kane to sign an extension before the transfer. Were trying to improve our shitty defense, not make it worse.
I just don’t think he fits Ange’s high line and composed ball playing needed from the two CBs. Madrid reportedly (tier 3) opening talks over Kane at €80m + 20m add ons. I really don’t want to sell on Kane. I do hold some (misguided?) hope that he renews. I do recognize that Ange will need until year 2 at least to have us competitive. Suffice it to say that I am conflicted.
Lenglet and Maguire both could have been good squad options if Conte stayed. Neither can play in AP’s high line. I’m not sure if Kane is willing/able to play in another high pressing team. If not, it’s best if he moves on.
Who do you think the best pressing striker is? Under Ange, do they have to be a facilitator or more of a finisher?
The best pressing strikers I’m aware of are Firmino and Richarlison. I’m kind of excited to see how Richy does under AP. I’m not worried about Kane fitting into AP’s attack at all. I just don’t think he’s going to want to work that hard when we don’t have possession.
I am confident that we won't sign him unless Ange wants him. That is part of why I am torn. I also do not think he is a bad player.
That is a great point about Richy. I hope he is also taught to lose some of the theatrics because it's gotten to the point where I think refs are intentionally not making calls even when he is fouled.
For the Venn diagram of scorer and pressing… would a dream signing be Osimhen? Or back to the Lautaro Martinez well again?
Inter are in the UCL final. Lauturo isnt going anywhere and we arent buying Osimhen. Kane to Real is perfect scenario if hes not going to stay here. Leave, win trophies, come back in a couple years and get after the scoring record. Most likely scenario is Kane sees out the rest of his contract this year. Then is a FA next summer. If things turnm around dramatically then we have a shot, otherwise hes off elsewhere in the league and we get to watch him break the record in another jersey.
I am only sharing this because it gives me hope that last year may have been worse than it should have been and perhaps we aren't as far away as our late fade showed. I think this one thing has more to do with our shit season than the players we had or the coaches who were in place. Everything went downhill once Ventrone died and I think that is a fair excuse for Conte's and the teams suboptimal performance. To make matters worse, I think this explains Son's issue...
