Reviews are treating it like a AAA title when it’s not. It’s a tiny indie game studio. I’ve put a decent amount of hours into it and haven’t had any crashes or bugged quests like I’ve read about.
If you loved the first one, I can't imagine disliking the second one. That's what I've heard, but as Super Vegeta said, don't expect perfection. It's definitely a little buggy, but in my like 20+ hours of play so far, it's crashed on me 1 time. I just loaded back up, and was right where I left off (actually in a slightly better situation as well). Anyway, read the quote I posted from a Facebook group in the XBox thread, that sums it up pretty well. I've had to play a lot of this blind as I didn't play the first one, but it's been a great experience. I'm actually legit addicted, in fact this is the most addicted I've been to a single player game since Skyrim (I've never played Witcher). I just love the world they create, and all of the moving parts. It's honestly kind of like a board game. I unfortunately lost my mechanic last night being an idiot. Getting my battle SUV stuck on a cliff in the middle of the night. Unfortunately for Samantha, that cliff just so happened to also be in the middle of 3 hoards and a feral. My melee weapon had just broken so all I had was a screw driver and a few shots in a hunting rifle. Feels flipping bad man, because now I'm fucked since no one can do anything with cars. I have no idea how to get another one since like I haven't found a potential follower with a useful skill since I've learned how important skills are. Literally everyone I find has a 1 star 5th skill that will not help me do anything useful in base.
So last night I finally found someone with an open 5th skill slot. Recruited, but from the time I recruited him and the time we got to the base (a few hundred meters) he had picked up the music skill. Finding ANYONE to read my books is fucking impossible. It's actually the most frustrating thing in the game so far. The game is already a grind, so it should be easier finding ANYONE with an open skill slot.
It’s real fun. But I think the people eat too much. I have 3 food outposts and a water plant with 2 gardens and I think I’m still breaking even on the food creation vs consumption
Always use command center for food, it costs like 35 influence. Easy peasy.I've been pretty good on food for the most part. And my people are constantly cheerful and above because all my new followers have the music skill.
Finally found an automechanic.... Still searching for a fucking computer geek. Once I have the computer bro, I can finally upgrade my flipping command center. Also, killed all the blood plague hearts and moved into the most expensive base last night. Lastly, who kills their followers? The way she describes this is confusing. She makes it sound like they are community members, but if that was the case, why would I give a shit about having access to their loot?
Yeah, I ended up getting half my gang bitten and didn't have any meds. So I bailed on 'em and haven't played the game since.
Well, the great thing I like about it being so fast is that if the settlement gets fucked early, you can spend a few hours on it and build it up again. Basically getting good at the beginning at the moment
I lost 2 survivors my first time through, started my 2nd run through but haven't gotten far really. I'd not recommend being the Sheriff fwiw. That's what I and basically all of my friends picked because we're basic, predictable, bitches. Anyway, while it's not a big deal, it's probably the worst in terms of legacy benefits for your next play through.
Been playing the shit out of this, beat it the first time with a builder which has a badass legacy benefit (power, water for free at your settlement with no daily cost either), I just beat the second area as a warlord which just gives you a pile of guns and ammo to start, which for me doesn’t matter as I play 95% melee. I feel like they’ve already fixed a lot of bugs, but the thing that infuriates me more than anything is vehicles getting stuck. If I had to guess how many times I’ve gotten a vehicle stuck on a guard rail and had to burn through a metric shit ton of fuel to get it loose. I love the base building, I just did the map I think it was called Drucker County, which I liked a lot better than the first map I did. I got an auto mechanic from the jump this time and it was a game changer. The upgraded vehicles are so much better, from fuel economy, to damage, they’re great. Couple of pointers for anyone new. For plaid hearts, Molotov’s or explosives are great, the best way to make sure you get an accurate throw is to aim your gun and use lb to throw the explosive. Also when doing this toss your explosives, blast the plague heart with your gun and escape to your vehicle, clear out the plague zombies with your car (honk if you need to draw them out of the building) rinse, and repeat until plague heart explodes, I do the same thing with cars at infestations and you can clear them in seconds.
Now have done all three maps, and have done it as a sheriff, builder, and warlord. Warlord and builder perks combined allow you to crush through a run on a map. The arsenal they give you is enough to wipe probably 7-8 plague hearts by yourself from the jump, and the builder perks with power and water at no cost make your life a thousand times easier.
I beat the hero quest with each person on the same map we started on. It then starts you over on a different map, but you can carry over your survivors. I have a doctor whose stats are basically maxed out, an auto mechanic maxed, and a warlord who’s maxed in combat stats and electric that I use everytime I restart. The mechanic makes your life just so much easier, if I had to go back and do it again, I’d do builder first, then do warlord, sheriff and trader perks don’t really seem impactful, but builder and warlord are extremely powerful perks.
I will say I wish they had fleshed out the red talon story, why can’t we attack them or work with them or the resistance, etc, that would be fun to do and give more depth to the story.
I’ve gotten to a point where I’ve destroyed all the plague hearts of one map, and I’m not sure what else there is to do other than the random missions that pop up
Do you have a leader? You should have a legacy quest to do (builder, sheriff, warlord, or trader) if you power through the legacy quests it’ll take about an hour or two, and after that it essentially ends your run with that group and starts you over on a new map, but you’ll have a perk available to you from whatever legacy you did. You can also use any of your survivors who made it all the way through on subsequent runs through the game.
Don't play this game drunk. I killed one of the most important members of my community because I equipped some incendiary gas grenade instead of thermite grenades......and kept running into the gas because I didn't know wtf was going on. I am legit depressed. Guy had the music ability and literally provided +12 morale to everyone. RIP Mike.
I had like 3 people with music. Shit would be hitting the fucking fan, and they would just be cheerful and pleasant as ever..... That is all except for the bitch of a doctor.
She finally ran away on my like fourth play through because I helped some bad guys, and I was sad I didn’t have my top tier medical person anymore, but more happy that her complaining ass was gone never to return.
Killed my first follower last night. She was the leader from a friendly enclave. Thought we could take out a plague heart together. My gun broke, and we got overwhelmed. Almost lost my best guy, but I got to the truck and gtfo. Anyone had this happen before? What happens? Not sure if the enclave will turn hostile on me now.
