So I don’t mean to come off as a dick. Well maybe I do, idk. But I’m not really rooting for him. Like he’s had a hell of a coaching career already, multiple chances to land on his feet. Many coaches who have had less spectacular failure have ended up in the coordinator or mid major circuit and never got a second chance. He’s gotten multiple chances I also feel like cfb’s talent vacuum in the coaching ranks is self inflicted and kind of creates these scenarios and that’s a discussion for a different thread. But lots of other deserving coaches could have gotten a call. Fwiw I’m all for people regaining their lives while fighting addiction. I think that parts great and should be seen as a story for others fighting the demons that accompany substance abuse. I guess what I flinch at is the idea of rooting for him to win. It’s a good story but it’s not like he was coaching high school for a decade then worked his way up after a fall from grace. He failed at USC, then was a NFL OC and Bama’s.
I get it. It’s different to me than rooting for a guy like Freeze, certainly Petrino. More a redemption story like Coach O’s. Drinking on the job and other stuff he has admitted to is not acceptable, would kill most careers justifiably. But he is fortunate to be super talented at what he does, doesn’t have many who will speak ill of him. Got the help he clearly needed. He got another chance bc Saban trusted him more (as a volunteer consultant during the fall) to call the CFP game than Kiffin who was not professional in leaving for FAU.
People talking about buyouts at big programs will always amuse me. Sure, at Texas Tech it’s hard to come up with that change but Texas wipes its ass with it.
What was it that attracted Texas to him? His success at Alabama? Who was the last Saban assistant to spread his wings and really soar? Jimbo won a natty so I guess that's it. There's a long list of both outright losers and relatively good coaches that never reached the level their bosses expected. Maybe they were looking at Sark's tenure as the head coach of USC. In which case...eeeesh
He’s a good coordinator and recruiter. He’s been a laughing stock as a HC a la Clay Helton where other teams are begging he gets an extension.
So I am clear here, 9-4 is what Texas should feel good about? UT and SC seem to be apples to apples to me.
He was good at Washington and battling an addiction at USC, it’s very realistic to think he’s probably learned a thing or two since then.
Boy the first time Saban ran across an issue with red tape he would blow a gasket that makes his sideline chewing outs look friendly
He had 5 seasons. The program was fully his. He was a known drunk at UW as well so not sure why you are only pointing to Southern Cal. I hope he got past his issues and would like to see Texas back.
Kirby has been pretty damn good at UGA. And hell be honest, what coach at a top tier school not named Alabama, Clemson, or Ohio State has reached the level of success their boss/fans wanted? The idea of who has and hasn't been a good coach is so fucked up at this point. If you're not Saban or Dabo, you suck now. Every program has an inflated idea of what they should be so a coach that doesn't win a title in 5 years gets fired.
No, just no. Saying they should win 9-10 every year is setting a bar they'll never reach and end up firing every coach they ever have.
Sorry, hospital branch. Football branch needs a new coach. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/ne...00-layoffs-from-budget-shortfall-15474079.php Also: AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Tuesday, the University of Texas-Austin athletics department announced lay offs, pay cuts and furloughs in a series of “necessary” financial cuts due to the COVID-19 pandemic. UT Athletics Director Chris Del Conte called the decisions “heartbreaking, but necessary” in his weekly Forty Acres Insider newsletter. Del Conte wrote that the department expects the cuts to amount to $13.1 million in savings for the budget.
Admit you know nothing about UW. Or continue talking out of your ass on a subject you know nothing about.
There's like 5 programs that should be winning 10 games a years. UW isn't one of them. Neither is Oregon for that matter. USC is the old P12 team with those standards. Placing unrealistic standards on programs is why coaching turnover is out of control.
