Hey guys... For anyone who enjoys audiobooks, this thread should be literally right in your wheelhouse. I'll make a database of the ones I find and enjoy right here... If anyone else finds one, please let me know and I'll add to the OP... Unfortunately, I don't know a ton... Yet, but this thread will hopefully help me find some I haven't listened to yet. I am also not including podcasts (outside of Serial) that are in talk radio or a newscast format. (No Truth & Justice, no Myths & Legends, no The Moth, etc). Outside of Serial, these are all very much fiction, and most have sound effects and feel more like you're watching a movie. The List: Limetown (http://www.limetownstories.com/): Only 1 season so far, but hands down my favorite yet. 10/10 The Black Tapes (http://theblacktapespodcast.com/): Just started. Fantastic so far. 10/10 Leviathan (http://www.leviathanchronicles.com/): They have 38 episodes published that are pretty damned entertaining. This is one of the first (started in 2008), so this one is a little more rough around the edges than the others mentioned above. Also, they haven't published a new podcast since almost 2014, and the story is not complete. 7/10 Welcome to Night Vale (http://www.welcometonightvale.com/): Read about it. It's an acquired taste. I don't like it at all, personally. If you dig very cool ambiance over narrative story-telling, give it a try. 1/10 (Not for me, but it has a massive following and people love it, so it's only fair to include) We're Alive (http://www.werealive.com/): This fits perfectly with this thread, because it has actors and a movie feel, but unfortunately, I could never get into it for some reason. 6/10 Serial: Literally everyone knows about Serial. I'm including it, because, imo, it opened up the wonderful world of podcasts to so many people who hadn't listened to them previously. The people who associated podcasts with talk radio, news, etc that did not tell a story. Thank you Serial, because of you we will now have exponentially more story telling podcasts. Typically, I wouldn't include it, but it's incredibly addictive (and we've had narrative non-fiction before), and that's really all we're looking for. There are other similar podcasts I'm not including like Truth & Justice, because those belong in the actual podcast thread in the main section of the board versus this one. Others in the queue: The Message (http://themessagepodcast.com/) Pleasure Town (http://www.npr.org/podcasts/399954591/pleasure-town) Wormwood Show (http://wormwoodshow.com/) Tanis (http://www.tanispodcast.com/) The Cleansed (http://thecleansed.com/) Hello from the Magic Tavern (http://hellofromthemagictavern.com/) Mystery Show (https://gimletmedia.com/show/mystery-show/) Wolf 359 (Reviews: http://podbay.fm/show/909552816/reviews) Some lists with ideas for more: http://www.parsecawards.com/ http://www.indiewire.com/article/the-best-storytelling-podcasts-of-2015-20151216 http://www.buzzfeed.com/schickhydro...-storytelling-podcasts-of-201-u00c#.phwRxvqQ6 http://mashable.com/2014/11/26/storytelling-podcasts/#lBWizazYeuqR
The Message is really well done. Gets a little cheesy at the end but I enjoyed it. At first I didn't know that it was fictional so I was super interested. Felt dumb when it got to the point that it became super obviously not real.
Finished the first season of The Message. Did not enjoy, and that could be because Black Tapes and Limetown or so good, but who knows. Either way, it's a very quick listen. Black Tapes is freaking awesome. Next up on my docket is... (First three look the best): Pleasure Town http://www.npr.org/podcasts/399954591/pleasure-town Wormwood Show http://wormwoodshow.com/ Tanis http://www.tanispodcast.com/ The Cleansed http://thecleansed.com/ Hello from the Magic Tavern http://hellofromthemagictavern.com/ Mystery Show https://gimletmedia.com/show/mystery-show/
