Only £8m a year. What a bargain. Can’t wait for the new manager to freeze him out next summer after the obligation kicks in.
Everyone agrees that Chelsea have talented players. No thought was put into how those players might fit or even an understanding that soccer has differing styles of play.
“Chelsea, who needed to raise €20 million in their accounts, were eager for the transfer to happen despite Strasbourg not being in the market for a forward and not being keen on Washington, who would have been their record signing, sources said.” Doesn’t bode well when even Strasbourg is like, “Why in the hell would we want to do that?”
I wonder if this is just a Chelsea thing or contracts will start to go the way of American sports - not that I’d expect Jackson to be a player that would set the market.
me neither, but I could see certain players being offered long term deals by their clubs more similar to what happens in American free agency.
I’m old enough to remember people(in general, not here) were bothered by Newcastle getting 20 mil from Saudi for Allan Saint Maximin
With the cost of transfers now, I can see more players wanting to run down their deals and get a nice sign on fee for their last big contract. No idea where Chelsea’s current ownership group got this idea that if they are protected from a player who wants out if he is on 9 year deal
smart work by Todd to preemptively keep Jackson from walking and cashing in on a huge free move just before he turns 32
Napoli one upping Chelsea in how to fuck over players "not in the project" Victor Osimhen saga. - Napoli insisted on the €120m+ release clause for much of the summer. - PSG agreed terms with Osimhen, but Napoli asked for €100m+ and the French champions walked away. - Al-Ahli agreed terms with Osimhen and an €80m package, only for the price to go up after Napoli learned of the Ivan Toney fee. - Chelsea offered both a loan, and later a loan with obligation, but couldn't agree terms with Osimhen. - Osimhen's agent Roberto Calenda made it clear his client didn't want a temporary move. This stopped #CFC making quicker progress at the same time as sending Romelu Lukaku the other way. - Osimhen agrees to join Galatasary on a straight loan with a January break clause. - Napoli still plan to sell Osimhen in 2025.
