replacing older expensive players that are slipping in peformance with younger less expensive players seems like pretty standard stuff

 

tldr: barca seems to

1) buy players they cant afford and work backwards to trim the roster, including forcing players who just fell out of favor to leave

2) ask players to sign team friendly deals up front (back-loading wages for the 2nd half of a contract) and then try and force them out ahead of the 2nd half
