to gain access to the Red Keep? Spoiler I don't necessarily think he's alive, just playing devil's advocate though because I think it's dumb for people to dismiss him as a faceless man because of that. from Arya's training, it's obvious that they frequently assume the identities of very common people. one is now acting as a novice at the Citadel.
I get that but it just doesn't seem to make sense. Faceless men are assassins. Seems like an odd way to gain access as opposed to just being a common guard. Honestly I think people started this theory just because they liked Syrio and want him to still be alive
jaqen h'ghar would've taken Arya under his tutelage had she gone with him, this is where the "theories" come to play.....why would jaqen h'ghar offer to train her in the ways of the master assassin. Seeing as how this is all Doughboy Martin's mindset....who really the fuck knows.
You could very well be right as well, The "tempting lure" of the Syrio/jaqen theory's main support is that when Syrio fought the guards we never "see" Syrio fall, only presume he did when fighting Ser Meryn Trant.
To me that makes sense because Jaqen got to know her a little bit and saw something in her. It doesn't make sense to me for a Faceless man to have sought her out in King's Landing as a potential recruit, especially as she was the Hand's daughter and everything was still peaceful when he first came to work with her. The only way that makes sense to me is if someone had some prophecy or saw a vision of Arya and sent Syrio to begin to train her and or bring her to Braavos
you're missing the point. I don't think it necessarily had anything to do with Arya. like I said, they could have just used the guise of a dancing master for the Hand's daughter to gain access to the Red Keep. Syrio could pretty much go anywhere he wanted without anyone bothering him.
That would be pretty awesome, if it indeed plays out that way....I won't say more for spoilers sake though as to where Arya is at the end of book 5. If fat boy would at least finish The Winds of Winter maybe we could get a better idea of her true destiny.....
for what purpose? The Faceless men are extremely expensive so if one needed access to the red keep his target would have to be fairly important. The Lannisters basically ran everything at that point so they wouldn't need to hire one to have anybody murked so it would likely have to be someone else hiring a FM to kill a Lannister and the question is who and why? To pay that sort of price it would almost have to be Cersei, right? But who had enough beef with her to want her dead at that point? Just seems very far fetched to me. Jaqen can murka dude by having his dog turn on him, yet Syrio needs weeks or months to kill someone in the Red Keep?
did you not notice that Jaqen is on a much larger mission that just killing people right now? the faceless men are not simply assassins. at least not anymore. who knows what sort of intel they could have been after in the Red Keep.
Yes but I still don't really buy it. Its possible but unlikely. Remember too that Syrio wasn't some unknown, he was a well known person. Did Jaqen kill him and steal his identity? You're right that he appears to be doing more than simply pulling off hits but still I think it's a long shot
Perhaps a man wants to keep his motives secret, you prying fuck. Curiosity killed the Cat(stark), it can sure as hell kill a buffalo.
Was reading AFFC on my lunch break and realized that Varys was Rugen, the man in charge of the 3rd level, the black cells. The only 6 prisoners that had been there recently were Pycelle, Ned Stark and Tyrion, 2 of which we know Varys visited and the other 3 were... J'qen and his boys. Now why would those 3 end up in cells reserved for the worst / most important criminals? And it just so happens that Varys secretly runs those cells and also released those 3 to the Nights Watch.
