I'm almost done with it and liked it, but didn't love it.

    Pros:
    - jRPG. Love them
    - Fan of the Tales series
    - The story has a lot of meaninful lessons that are refreshing to hear, but that comes at a cost (see below)

    Cons:
    - It has a LOT of story telling and cutscenes. Last night I probably skipped through 2 hours of cutscenes.
    - The battle is decent, but I found it to be a bit repetitive. My fingers would cramp up like they did while playing Tony Hawk because of all the random buttons you're mashing.
    - Characters scream out the same things in battle over and over.

Was a pretty easy platinum to achieve. Story was good.

JRPG seems up my alley but I don’t have the time and attention span for them. Thanks for the review

Finished the platinum on Tales of Arise, and it was surprisingly easy to get. Really good impression from my first tales game. Thought the characters and story were okay, but not on the same level as the other JRPG I played this year (Scarlet Nexus). Combat took a while to find its rhythm, but when it did it was very good. I'd say it's a little more complex than Scarlet Nexus, but they're both great in their own right. Side content and enemy variety were both better than SN, as well (weakest part of SN imo. If any of you are planning on playing it, I would recommend looking at reddit for strategies strategy setting help, because the defaults make the AI kind of shitty. I used some of gamerfcapuno's recommended settings from this thread.

Also, just started Tales of Berseria and really like it. Combat is obviously worse, but the story seems a little better.
