Tarantino and only two movies left (allegedly)

thoughts? Had this been covered already?

Quentin Tarantino did everything he could to make sure people knew The Hateful Eight was his eighth movie. It's right there in the title, next to the emblazoned line calling it "the eighth film by Quentin Tarantino." The number is important, because Tarantino apparently only wants to make 10 of them. Last year, he told EW, "I think there's something really vital and exciting about thinking: I only have two movies left." Tarantino shared that sentiment again during his recent remarks at the Jerusalem Film Festival.

"I'm planning on stopping at 10. So it'll be two more," Tarantino said. "Even if at 75, if I have this other story to tell, it would still kind of work because that would make those 10. They would be there and that would be that. But the one he did when he was an old f--ing man, that geriatric one exists completely on its own in the old folks' home and is never put in the same shelf next to the other 10. So it doesn't contaminate the other 10."

This statement is interesting, not only because it confirms that Tarantino wants to stop at 10 but also because it shows he knows he might not be able to stop himself from making more down the road. It's just that the first 10, apparently, would be the real Tarantino canon, and the others wouldn't count. Self-imposed retirements typically don't last (just ask Jay Z's Black Album), but Tarantino is adding an additional rubric on top of that. So who knows, really, but at the very least, Tarantino fans probably shouldn't expect more than 10 films. Then the "geriatric ones" can be pleasant surprises.

Bullshit. He'll make movies as long he's alive. There no imaginary definite point where you lose your prime and become incapable of making good films like he says either.

I do think a filmmaker prime is somewhat similar to an atheletes. Difference is filmmaker can have a second act, like Altman for example.

Love Tarantino. Hateful Eight was such an underrated movie.

I'm going to miss Quentin when he hangs them up. He has entertained the heck out of me.

    I will go

Pulp Fiction - The quintessential QT movie
Reservoir Dogs - essentially a chamber drama all filmed in 1 room and is still awesome. For what he was working with, I give it major props
    Inglorious Bastards
Kill Bills - I fucking love Kung Fu
    Django Unchained
    Jackie Brown
    Hateful 8

I have never seen Four Rooms but I dont count it as a QT movie anymore than Grindhouse was. The 8 listed above are his 8 movies IMO.

Also, even though they are the last 2 listed, Jackie Brown and Hateful 8 are both awesome to me. Jackie Brown is criminally underrated

Yes, and interestingly enough Natural Born Killers was originally intended to be the second Act of True Romance. However Tarantino didn't receive full screen writing credit for the former as it was heavily adapted. Also,

    Directed:

    Grindhouse (Death Proof)
    Sin City (Guest director)

    Writer:

From Dusk Till Dawn + sequel

    Producer/Presenter:

    Hero
    Hostel
The Man with the Iron Fists
    Iron Monkey
    and several others

Also wrote some TV scripts and ghostwrote on other movies.

  23. Harvey Updyke

    Harvey Updyke RTR!!!!!1!

I thought he counted 4 Rooms and KB was one film that he had to spilt so that it wasn't 3 hours in the theater? Probably wrong. Dusk til Dawn was written by QT and was awesome.

Can't even rank his stuff. I celebrate the entire catalogue.

Roth murdered that roll; the payoff in the last Act was about a million times more satisfying than it should have been just due to his groundwork.

10 is a solid number to stop at. I personally think 5 to 6 and most directors should stop. Im certain that JJ Abrams needs to direct 2 more Star Wars and walk away.

Not every movie by a director has to be a home run for them to be a great director
