imo the issue is that they set up a multi-season arc with Nate but were confined by the show going 3 seasons so they had to fast forward the redemption to one season.
My biggest issue with Nate’s storyline is his wooden ass girlfriend. I don’t get her personality (or lack thereof) at all
I think his heel turn was also overly rapid due to other story lines and Nate being a supporting character. At the end of that season we all (or most at least) thought his turn was kind of out of nowhere. And like was said- just too much movement was needed in too little time dedicated to his character basically the whole series.
I just binged all the way up till this week over the last couple weeks. Show is so good. Definitely agree that deciding to only go 3 seasons has made some of the storylines seem rushed. Still really enjoy it.
They skipped multiple weeks of the season and just referenced the streak, so we're meant to infer growth. It's kinda lazy, but it's a sitcom at heart.
I think the point of Nate’s storyline is not a redemption arc, it’s that he was a miserable asshole to Ted and Ted will forgive him and give him a second chance even though he doesn’t deserve it.
I hope not. I'm hoping all these press conferences Roy is suddenly doing is preparing him to be the HC with someone like Nate as his assistant.
Season 3 really should have been extended over two seasons, at least regarding Nate's arc. Season 3 could see his rise and fall with him bottoming out at the end of the season. Then season 4 would be the redemption arc.
It's not really about how many seasons it takes for an arc. Season 1 had 10 episodes and none of them were longer than 35 minutes. Season 3 is 12 episodes with what will end up being 8 episodes of 47+ minutes, 4 of which will likely end up being over an hour (assuming the finale is an hour+). We're close to getting the equivalent of 2 seasons compared to s1 here. I don't like Nate's redemption arc. I don't think this arc was done terribly well. But I also don't think more time invested in it was going to change my opinion on either point because my biggest issue is Fuck Nate and I don't want to watch more of him.
Nate would have been well served with a couple episodes of Rupert abusing him before he quit. the way they had him quit was thin and abrupt.
I hope they don't try and shoehorn Jamie's dad's redemption into the last episode. I'm sure it would make for great TV but that's an issue that deserves more than what they could do in one episode.
Especially with all the other stuff they have going on. Ted is obviously leaving, I assume Beard is going with him. Nate coming back. What definitely seems to be like some sexual harassment type stuff with Rupert.
Leaving it exactly where it is would be fine. We caught a glimpse. That’s enough. We already know Jaime has grown enough to be open to a relationship. Don’t need to see it.
That was a nice touch. I thought they were going in the he drank himself to death angle, seeing him in rehab was nice.
I'm right there with yall. We got a glimpse and a hint that he was really trying to be better. Don't need to try and fit the whole thing into one episode especially with so much else going on.
I feel like they did that by quickly showing him at AA happy for Jamie. To me that was the perfect amount.
yep. The only way it’s not Roy is if it’s something like Beard staying behind because of his girlfriend and they let him step out of Ted’s shadow to be the head coach.
I think the press conference scenes from a few episodes back were a pretty clear view of how Beard and Roy are viewed by Rebecca, the show, and the two characters themselves.
That part of the Nate story is literally one of the most common things in the world as far as people go... it had nothing to do with "dad issues" the guy was bullied by everyone for most likely his entire life (definitely by everyone in that locker room prior to Ted's arrival), finally got some sort of authority/respect due to a job title, and used it to be a douche bag to everyone "below him." Basically like a cop.
This + "Jamie Fart" burn from the little kid + Jamie's "This guy on Twitter kept saying it was blonde, but I'm like it's fuckin walnut mist mate" (plus Roy's flabbergasted reaction to Jamie cuddling his mom's tits) were great Jamie and Roy continue to carry the season. There haven't been many scenes centered around those two together that weren't pretty damn funny. Extra bonus whenever Will is randomly lurking in a corner or in this episodes case "you missed a good one"
Episode aired almost four full days ago and none of us have talked about the brilliant performance from Van Damme through adversity with the mask on. We've underrated him. Shame on us.

There’s a red plastic whistle by keelys picture. My guess is an Easter egg since Roy can’t use a whistle because of his metal allergy giving him mouth hives.
I didn't like how they used "drugs" as a punchline for Nate's failures but then immediately went to Jamie's dad and Beard's actual issues. Other than that, the last two episodes were good, with the exception of Nate's instant redemption
Are we still going to watch Ted once he’s gone to Kansas? I doubt we can keep calling the show Ted Lasso without Ted, and I doubt Ted in Kansas is an interesting storyline worthy of screen time.
