Enjoying "guy who doesn't watch games" calling out Oregon posters following their QB for being fake fans.
five games into our fourth year with Marcus DA GAWD at QB and we rank 29th in the NFL in points per game (17.4 PPG ) a couple more first round picks along the OL, another top ten pick at WR and a few more high picks at RB and we might have enough playmakers to ensure Mariota can lead this team to greatness
Just curious. Where would you rank the Tennessee WR corps in the NFL? Where would you rank the RB corps? Then where would you rank Mariota? It sucks, but he’s probably the least of our worries on offense.
A good QB can make average receivers look great. Same can't be said for great recievers and average to bad QBs. Mariota is the problem.
Alex Smith Blake Bortles Ryan Tanehill Josh Allen Sam Darnold Josh Rosen Andy Dalton Joe Flacco Case Keenum Derek Carr Dak Prescott Eli Manning Ryan Fitzpatrick The Titans are not any better on offense with any of those guys. Mariota isn’t great. He’s average. But he’s playing with a wr corps that is below average and a rb Corp that is maybe average at best. As soon as you take the time to actually rank units vs other nfl teams, you will realize this. It isn’t just mariota.
Is this actually true now? look at how Thielan and Diggs helped Keenum/Bradford last year. or what the scheme and weapons in KC did for Alex Smith. or what someone like Hopkins does for Watson. obviously this team is following the patriots model but i'm not sure, with rule changes, that its the best model for success now. and mariota is no brady anyways. it's early to know for sure, but a collection of the best teams in the league (excluding AFCS) are: Saints Bears Vikings Rams Redskins Bengals Chiefs Chargers Patriots Panthers Amongst those teams, who has weaker skill guys than Tennessee? Maybe Carolina and Washington? Probably the same two teams that, from that list, you wouldn't expect to stay good? NO has a top 5-10 WR in Michael Thomas and a top 5-10 RB in Kamara. Chicago has a top 10 RB in Howard and a good WR in Robinson. Vikings have two top 15 WRs in Diggs and Thielen. Rams have the best skill guys in the league. Bengals have AJ Green plus it looks like Boyd has developed this year. Chiefs have Kelce, Hill, Watkins, and Hunt. Chargers have Gordon and Allen. Patriots have Gronk, Welker, and now Josh Gordon (so fuck the idea that Brady has no talent around him) plus White/Michel. Tennessee had Walker, Matthews, the idea that Davis would develop this year, and Lewis. Their two most reliable targets are out. It does look like Davis is good but the dearth of talent is still noticeable compared to most of the rest of the league. Nick Williams doesn't get snaps on any of these other rosters.
You think Sharpe is a good NFL WR?!!?? Taylor has potential, super quick and a weapon if he becomes consistent, Davis is really good, but Sharpe is the definition of a replacement level player. He is average at everything. Teams that I think have inarguably better WRs: Steelers Falcons Texans Lions Vikings Chargers Chiefs Rams Saints Buccaneers Giants Eagles Patriots Broncos Redskins Bengals Teams that I think do but could be argued: Bears Seahawks (when Baldwin is healthy) Packers So at the very best the Titans have an average Core but most likely below average.
I will defer to Arkadin on these rankings because he follows the league much more closely but ever since our inception as a franchise, we have been average at best at WR. We've generally been above average at RB. Right now, we're probably below average at WR and about average at RB...despite having significant draft capital invested in both position groups (is Jon Robinson overhyped?) but we spent the #2 overall pick in the 2015 Draft on a QB. When you invest so much in a QB who is supposed to be a "transcendent talent" like Marcus DA GAWD, I think the hope is that individual is able to boost the talent around them so yeah we are around average at WR and RB and could certainly use some help in those areas. But go check out FootballOutsiders.com and see where Mariota ranks. Prior to yesterday's abortion of a performance, he was 23rd. At best, he is average. And that is when he is actually able to stay on the field. I don't really care if we are average at WR and RB. A truly elite QB talent should be further along than where Mariota is right now as a QB
If anyone would actually like my opinion I'd say the WR corps is really probably somewhere between 20-25. The RB room talent wise is 8-10ish. I like Mariota a lot but I really have no idea with him right now. I can't tell if he isn't good or the offense is just fucky.
I’m Marcus’ biggest Stan and I’m not even calling him “truly elite”.... so maybe check your expectations? But In terms of “boosting the talent around him” he can’t do anything more than dropping the ball in receivers hands.... Also, watch the fucking games if you are going to have strong opinions like this.
The offense is just super weird. Like I thought it couldn't play to the strengths worse than it had previously but I guess I was wrong. It reminds of of Jeff Fisher
per FootballOutsiders, QBs Mariota has been better than this year: Prescott, Foles, Allen, T Taylor and Bradford poor kid might legitimately have been ruined by Whisenhunt and Mularkey
CBS broadcast just showed a stat that says Titans run the ball more often than any other team despite averaging the 25th most yards per carry hooray for Reddit's NFL streams allowing me to watch this embarrassing effort
This is pathetic. All around. Marcus isn’t getting much help, but he NEEDS to hit Taylor on that post and he also ran into that last sack. Also Malcom Butler is probably our worst player. Unreal bad contract
I dunno if Byard is having the same kind of year that he had last year, but that was a hell of a catch on the INT. Great ball skills my dad said it was raining pretty hard at their place, looks like it made its way downtown over the past few minutes. Really shitty conditions, especially with a new field being put down over the past few days from what I read
This feels like one of those games where Henry rips off an 80 yard run while the other team is walking to the locker room and people pretend like it means he’s good
Should have taken Hernandez with our 1st rounder this year. We've put together a real shitty interior O-line.
Our interior OL was such a strength until we let Kevin Mawae walk after the 09 season. It's not been good since
I yearn for the days when we could use a couple picks in the 3rd and 6th rounds and come away with incredible linemen. Munchak was a bad HC, but damn he was a great OL coach/evaluator Lewan and Conklin are (supposed to be) cornerstones. Josh Kline played well last year and got a new deal this offseason that seemed like a smart investment. Are Jones and Spain really that bad? I have to think some of the OL issues are a result of dumb formations, failures to adjust to defensive alignments, unwise play calls and not entirely a result of shit talent up front 14.5 points per game...ahead of only Buffalo and Arizona, both of whom are starting rookie QBs. Would not be surprised to see
On behalf of Bama nation I apologize for Warmack being such a bust. Thought for sure he was going to be an All Pro cornerstone for the interior line.
Dion Lewis with 32 snaps yesterday and Henry with just 12. What a brutal draft pick. Jon Robinson looking like a pretty shitty GM right now
Im pretty down on J-Rob as a whole: Conklin=Not a bad pick ( think he is very overrated, but he is fine) Henry=Bad Pick Austin Johnson=Meh Kevin Dodd=Disaster Kevin Byard=Really great pick Corey Davis=Good Adoree=Good Rashan Evans=Jury is still out, but not looking great Landry=Good pick I guess on paper it doesnt look terrible, but the second round of Henry, Dodd and Johnson is TERRIBLE. Especially when we needed WR help and Michael Thomas was still on the board, especially when we needed more TE depth and Hunter Henry was on the board, especially when we needed interior OL help and Cody Whitehaire was on the board, not to mention Jaylon Smith, Dion Jones and Myles Jack were also there. Just complete shit.
This franchise has a long history of thinking they are outsmarting everyone else in the draft, instead of taking dudes with proven track records.
first two plays are runs up the middle with Henry first one lost three yards. Second one gives us a 3rd and 10 hooray for 3rd and long right off the bat
lol we have a long drive stall (because of a drop) and settle for a FG to start things. LA goes 75 yards for the score on their first play Mariota now with 3 TDs on 46 offensive series on the year, not entirely his fault but that's still so bad
Love the tempo, lets keep that up. Marcus is so much better with it, and so is the rest of our offense.
