Oh what a surprise. You are an Oregon fan. You have to be a pretty big homer to not admit that he is soft as shit. Will happily eat crow if he proves me wrong because I like him a lot as a person but I doubt he ever will.
from the ESPN write up: He was observed throwing the football by media during open portions of practice. But one source said that it is the physical contact of a football game that would subject Mariota to the risk of permanent damage, according to the opinion of the independent spine specialist that has been shared with team officials and the medical staff. chance to make the playoffs on the line and we cannot expect our "franchise QB" to play because the physical contact associated with the game could prevent him from ever being able to throw a football again WHAT A FRAGILE BITCH
ha spot in the playoffs on the line and we're sending out Blaine Gabbert to play QB vs a team starting Andrew Luck because the face of our franchise is unable to take physical contact but he's not soft
Gabbert missing a wide open guy on the first play of the game. Sucks he's gotta play so much for us if only we had our starting QB who has 12 TD and 9 INT on the year
hey good for Logan Ryan, nice of him to publicly support the face of the franchise the fact of the matter is Mariota already missed time this year, then he came back and now he is missing the biggest game of the year because of a stinger. I don't care what pro athletes post on social media. None of it is sincere ignore feature is great, I need to utilize it more often
Woodyard is a beast. Our LB play has pretty much always been great going back to when I was a little kid man remember how wild Adelphia Coliseum was our first couple seasons?
I don’t think it’s just a “stinger”, as we’ve consulted outside spine and nerve specialists. I really think his career is in danger like Manning’s was.
No argument from me there. It’s annoying as hell and I’ve stated my opinion several times in here. I hope we can sign him to an extension without breaking the bank.
Gabbert is gonna Gabbert. Even with Marcus I dont think we would have won this game. Luck is just so damn good.
FWIW, PFF had the Titans OL ranked 3rd in the NFL after week 10. That ranking fell to 9th after week 12. And to 13th through 15 games. So collectively it's been at least average most of the year And Conklin was never healthy. He was 1st Team All-Pro as a rookie. You don't earn that distinction at a position like OT without being able to play the position at a high level. I will be interested to see how he looks in camp I don't think it would take too much to drastically improve the OL. The Athletic had an article a couple weeks ago that talked about little ways Mariota could help the OL look better (having more poise in the pocket and getting rid of the ball more quickly)
I should have been more specific, because Conklin is a good run blocker and Spain is decent in the run game as well. But the interior OL and Conklin are absolute trash in pass pro. Conklin's rookie year he was getting tons of help in pass pro so he didnt stick out like he did this year, although I think you are right that injuries have played a part in it. I'm still mad we took him over Tunsil though.
Yep lol. Went from 13 ( I think?) to 8 to get him. If he moves to G he could be a good player, he just doesn't have the athleticism to play RT in the NFL.
this seems like such a waste of a year if you are second in the league in scoring defense you should be in the playoffs. Especially when you are in year four of your #2 overall pick's time as your QB we did not manage our RBs as effectively as we should have during the first half of the season. And we had some really bad coaching decisions in close games (the give to Stocker instead of Henry vs the Texans and the 2-pt call vs the Chargers really stand out). All that was compounded by the uncertainty we continue to deal with regarding our starting QB's health frustrating
PFF named Conklin the 66th best player in the league following the 2016 season and he wasn't nearly as bad as you seem to suggest he was last year. In fact, he apparently ranked among the top 5 OL in all of football when his play from 2016 and 2017 was taken into consideration. That's two years of elite play at RT before this season where he was playing with a bad knee but yeah I guess we should take the Oregon fan's word for it https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2018/introducing-total-points
He hasn’t been the same since his injury though. Lost a step which will kill you on the edge. Needs to make the move to G.
sure this year he hasn't been elite because he has been recovering from a major knee injury he was a fantastic draft pick though, certainly not worthy of the LOL from the Oregon fan
Yeah for a while it looked like we had bookends for the next five years. Would be great if he could look like some semblance of that rookie season again.
in late October Seth Walder from ESPN Analytics (guy is brilliant) had our OT duo ranked as the 7th best in the NFL at pass blocking based on this year's play. It tailed off down the stretch I guess but that makes me think Conklin should be allowed to get fully healthy. The data from 2016 and 2017 suggests that he is an elite talent three sources who cover the sport suggesting Conklin is a good (great when healthy) player. But the Oregon fan seems to know best http://www.espn.com/nfl/insider/sto...-offensive-tackle-duos-pass-blocking-nfl-2018
I watch every game, he was a liability in pass pro last year and this year. He is a good run blocker so his overall grades are going to reflect that, also with Mularkey we had max pass pro on a regular basis leaving him on island much less. I dont dislike the dude, he just isn't athletic enough to play RT in todays NFL if you want the QB protected. Its LOL worthy because we traded up to take a player who isnt as good as a player we could have gotten without trading assets.
ahhh I see just pop in the tapes I guess (you probably weren't around here for the Suh/Cody debate) thanks for your input. I don't value it anywhere near as much as I do the work put out by the folks at PFF, Football Outsiders and ESPN Analytics though
and for the benefit of all the longtime Titans fans in here, I will put the Oregon fan on ignore like I have hinted at previously that will ensure you can post in this thread like old times
