http://ir.tesla.com/news-releases/news-release-details/tesla-q1-2019-vehicle-production-deliveries Lol this is ugly
the model S and X are so fucking expensive for what they are, you can get a top of the line 3 for 50 ish...
Not surprising that the 3 is cannibalizing the S (and X to an extent). I still like the S better though.
S&X sales were worse than I expected at 12k, estimated 15k with the tax credit expiring and getting rid of the 75kwh battery model. S&X were never going to match prior quarters as they guided lower for this year, but it’s clear they need a refresh soon.
They need a refresh plain and simple, you can’t have your top of the line model not be able to take advantage of your future charging stations.
tough day for the "god king elon will address the service issues now!" crowd wonder if your city is next? this company is desperate for cash and service centers don't bring in positive cash flows...
I don’t think service centers make money until cars are 5+ years old. Does Tesla have a significant stock of that age car? Slashing service centers and having to reopen them seems short sighted, but if you are having cash flow problems, priority one is surviving until tomorrow.
Just S&X over that age. Younger cars (EVS in general) maintenance schedules are basically tire rotations for the first few years. Bummer news, not what I’d like to see regarding service. On the other hand looks to be a one off thing and they’ve opened other service centers in more Tesla populated areas. At this point I’d rather them just raise capital to build out superchargers and service centers.
Why aren't there non-Tesla shops that can fix Tesla's? Virtually every other car has this. Same with a body shop. Why can't a generic body shop fix a Tesla
No spare partzzz And your non Tesla shops are set up to service regular cars not corollas with batteries shoved up their asses
Generic body shops do fix Tesla’s. As far as service goes regular mechanics know Internal combustion engines well and probably have little experience with EVs.
That being said I think it’ll be an interior refresh/powertrain which have been the rumors not an exterior one.
There are ppl who can fix Tesla's. IDK what exactly most of the issues are, but if there is a need surly someone could start an independent service business.
Lol well new info says the location is not being shut down but rather the entire service staff was let go. The calgary service center will still be staying open just a new service staff for whatever reason.
Where Eagles Dare I am auto insurance property damage manager in the Bay Area so we deal with the most Tesla’s in the USA for our company by a mile. If you don’t have a Tesla certification you simply can’t even buy parts from them. Also if you don’t have a full Tesla certification you can’t buy structural parts and to do structural repairs u need about 150k worth of equipment special to Tesla and you also need a separate aluminum Repair room that’s separate from sheet metal repairs. Long story short it’s a big pain in the ass, plus their parts are often backordered so cars sit at the shop along time and so you need a huge facility
Yea you have to be a certified body shop, I should’ve clarified in my post. Parts are definitely still an issue. Good info Mc.
Yeah they are a thorn in my side to deal, and also they are all aluminum so most shops don’t have the techs with enough skill to fix aluminum so they want to replace most parts on them
Yea that was my first thought. Makes no sense to fire an entire staff just to hire and train a new one. The staying open part is bullshit or there's a major reason why they laid the entire staff off to hire and train a new one. I remember there was something union related recently. Maybe the laws in Canada are different and they let everyone go bc of unions? Just trying to think of reasons theyd let an entire staff go.
The union stuff is the factories, particularly Fremont. No idea, it’s strange. But they are staying open, even if you read the original tweet the wording never implies it’s closing.
Surely Ford/Chevy/etc don't make all their OEM parts, right? Can't they just farm that shit out and give a company a spec sheet? Seems like an easy fix
I've always thought Tesla didnt want to do that. I thought they wanted to keep everything proprietary. I could be completely wrong on that but I dont see why there would be a parts issue if they allowed others to make them.
That's why I'm asking if Ford/GM/etc make all their own EOM parts. I would assume they wouldn't. It's one of those things Tesla needs to probably take note of existing industry and their best practices. Similar to how they over engineered and over automated their plants. All the auto companies made the exact same mistakes back in the 80s, there had been numerous studies and articles about it and Tesla/Elon fell into the exact same trap. They basically undid a lot of it and the plant ran smoother. A lot of shit they are doing is stuff no one else has done, but not everything has to be an invention. You don't always have to be the smartest person in the room or do the most unique business plan
I think Ford/GM make their own OEM parts. But other companies can make aftermarket parts. I read a while back that Tesla doesnt allow aftermarket. Patents maybe? That's the issue, I believe.
No one really makes their own parts, lots of aftermarket parts are actually the same parts from the same factory that are surplus......major manufacturers just stamp their logo and mark it up more......Keystone the largest aftermarket vendor their Platinum Plus line are all these surplus OE parts essentially
this is one of the reasons I moved away from my audi 6 years ago, I couldn't find a single place that could do an oil change bc they could never reach the oil filter so I always had to go to the dealership who charged way too much money for anything
Apparently on Feb 25th Tesla and FCA entered into an agreement: “Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has agreed to pay Tesla hundreds of millions of euros so the electric carmaker’s vehicles are counted in its fleet in order to avoid large fines for breaking tough new EU emissions rules.“ Looks like FCA was the least likely to be able to meet the new EU emissions standards and was facing 2 billion in potential fines come 2021. Other automakers also grouped up like Toyota with Mazda. Great for Tesla as they could use the cash, FCA saves money, and paying Tesla instead of governments is better in the long run for actively combating climate change. Will be interesting to see what the actual final financial agreement is as well.
Maintenance on an electric vehicle is 1/10th the cost. All you need is tires and brakes. They can't upsell/overcharge you for other random things because they aren't in the cars to begin with.
HR related apparently. “Several members of the Calgary service team were terminated following an investigation into an employee complaint which confirmed repeated inappropriate exchanges between colleagues. This is in violation of our workplace policies and behavior we will not tolerate at Tesla.”
EPA estimated range came in at 204 miles with a 95kwh battery. For reference X is at 295 with a 100kwh battery.
I really want my next car to be a tesla, but them being able to remotely remove things via software update is an odd look
35k still around for now off menu (will wait to see if people start getting it this weekend), definitely looking to promote the SR+ more. LR RWD off menu too which is what I’d want. I’d bet switching lines between the 5 variants and switching between US/EU/China compliant (different blinkers/ charge ports) hurt production levels in Q1 so they are trying to simplify.
Do you really need heated seats in the summer? I mean if it can switch over to air conditioned seats that would be great
