Gallant Knight hope you didn't miss this recent exchange from Jason Calcanis and Josh Wolfe. here's some highlights: Wolfe continued on his twitter. It's just amazing how dogmatic the Tesla/Musk worshippers are, both on twitter and elsewhere (even on TMB). "He's solving the world's problems! His company built self-guided rockets! So you can't rationally criticize him!"
It's absolutely frightening how MUSK has built up a cult of personality. He's a shithead narcissist who has run a company that has hemmoraged cash and never has, or ever will, be profitable. If anyone dares criticize him, they get ripped to shreds by his twitter/tmb army, people who are thirstier than a bachlorette party competing for DHMB's seed. "but he's innovating", "at least he's helping, what are YOU doing" - thank god people like Gallant Knight are smart enough to see he's just shamelessly self-promoting. There's a reason MUSK attacks the news media. He wants his twiiter to be the gospel truth. Never mind his cars fail brake tests, never mind the Thai government has not requested any assistance from him. MUSK's twitter says those are all lies
Read the entire thing in real-time yesterday. Really looking forward to their Q2 earnings call. If they lost anywhere near the 785m they lost in Q1, they’ll either have to be profitable by the end of this year or raise money or they’ll be insolvent.
If you believe the numbers they’ve reported (I don’t), they’ve had two profitable quarters over 15 years
Really hope Tesla closes down today after the 5-6th lie of an MOU for Tesla to build a factory in China. It also closed down the day after they announced 5,000 burst rate cars
Tesla opened up orders for the model 3. 60k for an all wheel drive model is much higher than I was expecting. Guess I won’t be buying one for a while.
half of the 7500 tax credit will also disappear on 1.1.19, assuming the company is still solvent at that point.
calling people you're mad at pedos to slander them (without providing any proof, at least so far) is a common tactic of a certain group of internet people
The fact that he's going at a guy that risked his life to save the kids bc the guy laughed at how ridiculous his mini sub is is just disgusting behavior.
If he's right that 200,000 of the reservation holders are down to buy an $80,000 model 3 then I'm going to lose a lot of money
Would that make it the car with the most sales over $80k? Looked up BMW 7 series and they only had 10k. Tahoe's are less than 100k units. Land Rover only has 75k as entire company. $80k model 3 going to triple all of Land Rover and double Tahoes? Seems like a stretch. I'm trying to think of cars over $80k that have a lot on the road.
They're asking suppliers to refund money "The auto maker's memo, sent by a global supply manager, describes the request as essential to Tesla's continued operation"
I'm not going that far, but I do think any projection reliant on 200k sales of an $80k sedan are pretty unrealistic. $80k is a fucking lot for a car. I don't see them doubling all other options in that market. What's someone making if they drive an $80k car? $500k household? There's only 6mm households that make $500k. Getting 200k sales from that group when you already have other high end options seems unrealistic.
If they don't either turn a profit or raise capital by the end of the year they will literally run out of money
I'm not here to argue that. I don't know enough about their finances to enter that argument. You may very well be right. I'm just commenting on that article that was reliant on 200k sales of $80k and then another 100k per year. Maybe one day, but I don't see it immediately being the top selling luxury car in the US.
Can? Sure, but there's not many households making under $200k that are buying $80 cars. That's a $1500+ car payment. Leave that to side for now, just look at car sales over $75k. Do you think Tesla will be #1 in that market this year or next year?
They don't have anywhere near the infrastructure to deliver and service 200k cars a year either way. If your tesla needs a part to be serviced it's a multiple week wait. Many cars are being refused on delivery because of defects. I remember 3 months ago when I was the only person on here shitting on tesla/musk. The journalists are all piling on now too. It's fun to see
Next year jaguar and Porsche will be introducing luxury EVs in the first quarter. Would you rather have a jaguar, Porsche, or a model 3 that they're selling for 65k+ that was originally meant to be a $35,000 mass market car. Additionally, the jaguar and Porsche will be eligible for the full $7,500 tax credit while tesla a gets cut in half Jan 1 2019.
Me personally, without having seen the others, Tesla. Tesla is cool. I know you hate it, but Tesla is viewed as cool. Plus they've been at this longer so I'd feel more comfortable with them. I still think 200k is laughable.
To be fair though, while I make over $200k but under $500k, I will not be spending $80k on a car so I will not contribute towards that market.
That BI article might as well have been written by Captain Obvious, but can someone show me where I'm missing the projection of 200k sales of the $80k trim? I see a reference to having 200k depositers remaining if half the current depositers bolt, I see an annual revenue projection that implies an average selling price around $47k, and i see a revenue projection based on about 50k sales of higher (though not exclusively the highest) trim levels over the next 6 months, but I must be missing some other projection.
