Great googly moogly Elon Musk @elonmusk 9m9 minutes ago First baby step in Tesla Summon capability now downloading over-the-air with V7.1 Elon Musk @elonmusk 5m5 minutes ago Tap your phone or key and your car will open the garage door, exit, close the door and come to you. Will do same in reverse for unsummon. Elon Musk @elonmusk 2m2 minutes ago In ~2 years, summon should work anywhere connected by land & not blocked by borders, eg you're in LA and the car is in NY
or you can press it and send it home I can't wait to be driving home in my 1995 Honda and looking left and seeing an empty 2018 Tesla driving itself home
Just from the tweet, it sounds like it can go as far as needed as long as you're connected by land. I don't see what the difference would be as long as you're not in the driver's seat actively trying to control the vehicle.
Holy shit, someone at Auburn got a wrap for their TESLA hood in Clemson colors because that much "fuck alabama." WOW.
Was about to ask the same question. From what I remember it is still illegal to not have someone in a driver seat in self driving cars. I thought the intent was to keep it that way for safety purposes.
http://www.ncsl.org/research/transportation/autonomous-vehicles-legislation.aspx Most states that have passed legislation allow it for testing and development purposes, but seem to be hesitant to give the public permission to "drive" them.
I believe you have to keep your hands on the wheel. I think the current iteration can start alerting you and eventually steer off the road if your hands aren't on the wheel for a certain amount of time. That's why everyone was so freaked out when the first autopilot version came out, a bunch of idiots were taping themselves eating and generally not paying attention

My buddy and his fiance are already on the waiting list to pre-order for next month. Gonna wait and see how his goes/see if there are any kinks that need to get worked out, but if everything's fine I'll be getting one within the next calendar year.
They have more money in uncollected revenue for unfulfilled Model X preorders than all of their revenue for 2015. That's amazing
Shit like this is what makes me confident in my stock buy despite the giant drop over the past couple months. Almost makes me want to buy some more. And before the finance bros jump on me, I recognize my investment is highly speculative and in no way backed by P/E ratios and shit. I just see developments like this and imagine TSLA being the next AAPL in a decade.
Wonder how much the waiting list deposit will be for a 3. Dropping 5 Gs for a car 3 years down the road seems to be a bit annoying. Plus, the electric credit incentives seem to be going away. They did away with them in GA and the Fed will cut them as soon as as non D is holding office
There is a waiting list just to pre-order? Shit, I'm going in this weekend to check out the pre-order process. Didn't know starting a month and a half early I'd still be in the back of the line.
Are you sure he's not talking about the Model X? Model 3 preorders don't start until the end of March
He was definitely talking about the $35K model, the Model 3. Said he had to get on a waiting list to pre-order. A pre-pre-order, if you will
That might have been the beer talking. March 31 for accepting pre-orders was announced on his twitter less than a week ago. Although he's been saying March 2016 for sometime so maybe they are already in pre-pre-order mode.
Es posible Regardless, I'm gonna wait for the 2nd generation model to come out (is that the correct terminology?). I'm all about Tesla, but apprehensive that the initial Model 3s may have some glitches.
This will be the 3rd model they're coming out with so you'd like to think by that time glitches would be at a minimum but I get what you're saying. I'm considering pre-order for the 3 but I'm apprehensive about the size of the car. If it's similar to a 3 series BMW, I'm afraid it will be too small.
I'm going to be interested to see what this car and others coming out do to the re-sale market for regular old gas vehicles. Can't be good.
True, but can't you also go ahead and start your payment plan? So you could have most of the car paid off by the time you actually get it? A little different, but that could be a silver lining.
I like the idea of a tesla, and if the 3 had been out when I bought my car 4 years ago that would've been my choice. My next vehicle will probably be for work, probably an suv or truck. So as of now I don't see myself buying a tesla because they don't have a truck and their suv is outrageously priced. I doubt the technology exists for an electric truck currently, but if they come out with a 35k suv in the next few years that would change things, however.
They work all of the bugs out prior to wide release, hence all of the delays and low initial delivery numbers with the Model S and X. You can reserve on 4/1 like everyone else and not have anything to worry about. Tesla can't afford to rush its products to market
Never heard that. Kinda weird paying for it. I currently never drive. I ride a bike to work 90% of my days. I'd be interested in getting one for the wife, but still have 3 years left on her car payment.
He is an Intellectual Property/Patent attorney, so is very "in the know," so to speak. Could be the case. Just thinking out loud, but don't know why you couldn't. Or, you could simply deposit X amount into a separate account each month, treat it as a car payment, and then drop all that saved coin when you actually buy it. Could save some on interest (although I'd never be disciplined enough to do this).
Did know this thread existed. I shared this in the rtt - but Tesla came to our office a couple weeks ago. Got to test drive the S. Cool AF. Couldnt believe how quiet it was. The pickup was great. The lack of the buttons and one massive flat screen display was a little to get use to as well. Im the furthest thing from a car guy, so I was probably easily impressed.
SIAP, Tesla offers a "ludicrous speed" package http://jalopnik.com/the-tesla-model-s-just-got-upgraded-to-ludicrous-speed-1718577723 http://autoweek.com/article/car-news/tesla-hits-ludicrous-speed
Test driving the model s later today (hopefully one with the ludicrous speed package ). Gonna find out about pre-ordering the model 3. Will report back later.
You meant to say it will be "revealed" but instead you said it's going to be "reviled," which means to criticize in an abusive or angrily insulting manner.
Stream is up and rolling. Just put my reservation in. You can cancel at anytime and they'll apply the downpayment to your purchase if you decide to go through with it. Figured what the hell.
Saw an S downtown today. It was a flat grey with custom wheels and looked great. If I wasn't driving past it I would have taken a pic. Had some sort of weird Tesla rear plate on it instead of a state tag so I'm guessing it was new.
I love tesla, but if they get the model 3 out anywhere close to on time I'll be shocked. They haven't even sourced some fairly key components yet, which usually means about a ~2 year lead time. Very interested to see how this plays out...
