A timeline of the catastrophic Texas floods https://www.npr.org/2025/07/05/nx-s1-5457759/texas-floods-timeline Worth noting: 1. the state of Texas started shuffling flooding resources to the area as soon as Wednesday morning. 2. Lt Governor Patrick said emergency resources chief had spoken with all area judges and mayors on Thursday morning saying floods were coming but could not pinpoint when and where in the area but be prepared to evacuate. It is nice that the politicians in Texas are always so willing to point fingers at others so we can get timelines. Not nice that accountability never occurs. :/
On Saturday afternoon, Gov. Greg Abbott said one word has been used more than any during this natural disaster: Prayer. "All we know is that prayer does work," he said. If prayer works why didn’t this asshole just pray that the floods didn’t happen?
Wife and everyone in multi generations of her family went to mystic. Too many tragic stories to even begin.
My fucking god, a friend of mine just sent this in a group text I'm afraid he might actually be serious
Was at a ranch in Hunt a few months back with a good friend. His wife went to Camp Mystic growing up. They know quite a few families affected, both in terms of lost loved ones and homes washed away. Seeing images of the Hunt Store under water is wild. Crazy shit. Hoping for the absolute best.
Is this like a mega church of camps? 750 kids seems like they are just processing checks in bulk. The few that I went to were like 50-60
There’s a meat market in Kerrville that made the best beef jerky I’ve ever had. Literally killed store bought beef jerky for me. I’d order monthly shipments if they allowed it.
Yep, that is the one I was thinking of. That Ritas Famous Tacos a few doors down at Goat Creek cutoff is fantastic as well. Just up Goat Creek in the hills is my mom’s place.
This is totally different tangent, but what’s the going rate for a lb of good beef jerky like this (non name brand, made locally)?
There are quite a few of these camps right in that area. 750 seems normal for where I went. Texas has 31 million people and a lot of the religious ones have money.
back in my day it was all about either Camp Longhorn or Sky Ranch and maybe even Camp Ozark if your parents wanted to ship you off to Arkansas
Camp longhorn is where its at around here But I still have a hard time accepting the $ amount for this stuff
Thirty some odd years ago I went to a place called T Bar M. I don’t remember a lot of it but I would have to guess there was prob at least 500 kids there. Maybe more. I do remember floating down the Guadalupe River. Super sad deal. I can’t imagine the horror and had to be even more difficult to deal with in the middle of the night.

we literally get a flash flood warning on almost all decent sized storms these days and 99% of them dont turn into this and an alert on your phone is almost as useless when its past 1 AM and most people are sleeping
Sure, but if you’re in charge of 750 kids well being and there’s a flood watch for your area, maybe have one person dedicated to stay up through the night in case there’s a flood warning, or maybe even a flood.
Seeing lots of construction workers getting pulled over all over town this morning. The markets are deciding.
I hadn't read any of the news about these floods, but this part.......wow. That is terrifying. 'The Guadalupe River rose 26 feet within 45 minutes...'
The $ is so someone can watch your kid for 1-2 weeks while you vacation abroad. 100% worth it I went to t bar m and laity lodge. Guessing my daughter will be at llyc when she is old enough
My in laws are friends with Dickie and the family, wife's family went to Waldemar and my 3yo already has a deposit there. Everyone is shook, this is breathtakingingly tragic.
Q: Was there any discussion to evacuate before it was too late? RICE: What we don't want to do is cry wolf— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com) 2025-07-07T15:29:14.059Z
People don’t take watches seriously enough. Just because most of the time nothing happens under a severe weather watch doesn’t mean you should ignore it. I cancel camping if the area comes under a severe weather watch. It sucks, but you know what sucks worse? Getting caught when that watch becomes a warning. I’m not giving anyone a pass for letting children under their supervision go to bed under a flood watch unless I have an evacuation/shelter procedure that can be executed in minutes. The responsibility for these kids losing their lives rests on the adults charged with their care.
everyone should feel pretty safe sending their kids to camp for the next decade. the policies and procedures are going to be seriously changed at all of them after this tragedy
Maybe a legislature that only meets every two years should focus on things that kill us as opposed to spending time on putting jesus posters in public schools and made up conspiracy theories like litter boxes in schools Texas lawmakers failed to pass a bill to improve local flood warning systems this year www.texastribune.org/2025/07/06/t... via @texastribune.org— Terri Langford (@tlangford.bsky.social) 2025-07-07T00:09:26.983Z
This may be "stupid shit my wife does" but she can never remember which one is the more serious one between watch and warning. She swears that "watch" should be the serious one. I generally just laugh and make fun of her, but to her credit, any time we have any sort of watch, she's all about prepping (covering outdoor furniture, charging devices, etc.) I'm the dumbass midwesterner that just goes outside immediately any time a watch/warning hits. Although, to be fair, I'm not remotely in any floodplain or danger zones, all I ever have to worry about are tornadoes, thunderstorms and snow.
Will they? When has this country shown the ability to make change after tragic loss of young lives? They'll pass a cloud seeding bill and pray harder.
