This forum doesn't get much traffic, so this is thread-worthy, I guess. Sorry if an identical thread was already posted, because I really didn't look. If enough people post, I might turn this OP into some kind of compendium. My list is almost totally "old" PC games, because that's what I played. Not really ranked because, as much as I like pissing contests, I'd rather just share some great games. Would prefer to keep the "good but not great" ones out, but that's subjective as hell. PC Half-Life 1 & 2 (plus all of the episodes) Counter-Strike (1.6 was awesome, but my best memories are from Source gun game deathmatch mod) Team Fortress 2 (pretty sure this is free now) Pretty much all Blizzard titles, including WoW (pre-Burning Crusade, especially) KOTOR 1 Ghost Recon (the original) Worms Armageddon (GOAT LAN game) Star Wars: Dark Forces 1 & 2 Deus Ex 1 Quake 3 (GOAT deathmatch game) Unreal Tournament & UT: 2004 GTA 3 and Vice City Portal Audiosurf System Shock 2 (scared the shit out of young Pesci) Supreme Commander 1 & 2 (I suck at RTS games, but they have so much depth, and the big battles were/are epic and awesome as hell.) Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind Freedom Force Doom 3 Far Cry Max Payne Star Trek: Voyager Elite Force Battlefield 1942 & 2 Medal of Honor: Allied Assault Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory IL-2 Sturmovik Freespace 2 Tie Fighter Falcon 4.0 (challenging as all hell, but awesome. joystick necessary. i swear, you have to know how to actually fly a jet fighter to actually be good at this game) Dungeon Siege Silent Hunter 3 N64 obvious N64 titles (the Zeldas, Goldeneye, Griffey, Tony Hawk, various Mario games, Super Smash, etc.) Madden 64 (oh god, it was glorious. Pro formation, quick sweep all day) Blitz WWF No Mercy (underrated as hell) Blast Corps Perfect Dark Gauntlet Legends (was the shit, multiplayer only though) Battle Tanx Turok 2 (cerebral bore was the shit) International Superstar Soccer '98 Kobe Bryant's NBA Courtside Cruisin' World Excite Bike Jet Force Gemini F-Zero X XBOX Need for Speed: Underground (played the shit out of it. awesome playlist.) NCAA 03 MVP Baseball 05 Madden 05 (original hit stick game. it was so broken and glorious) NFL 2K5 Halo 2 Crimson Skies NBA Street v2 Metal Gear: Solid 2 (port, but I never played it on PS3) Haven't played much other than sports games since 360/PS3/Wii came out, but Super Mario Bros. for the Wii and The Show for PS3 are both awesome. Would prefer that this didn't devolve into whether X CoD sequel was better than Y CoD sequel (hint: they're all wack [except CoD4 and the original Call of Duty] )
Xbox 360: Bioshock, Mass Effect, Red Dead, Oblivion, Fallout 3 PS3: Uncharted 2, Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid 4. more ps2: Metal Gear Solid 2: SOL, Resident Evil 4, NFL2k5, Metal Gear Solid 3, ICO. more dreamcast: Sonic Adventure 2, Power Stone 2 more xbox: Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Jade Empire, SWKOTOR1,
I cannot for the life of me get into the first one still on the outskirts of Vizima. I'd play so much more of it if it was on xbox
It is a tough game to get into in the first Act. Once you gain access into Temple District aka Act 2, and start trying to solve the conspiracy, and who runs the Salamandra then you will be hooked.
I was thinking about getting into this series. Have you finished the series yet or just the first game?
My God, this game could have been the bane of my extracurricular pursuits as a kid. I could literally play this game all day if I wanted to, and to you for listing it among must-play games.
1 is unbelievable. I'm 2/3 of the way through it I believe. And all I've heard is how 2 blows 1 away in every facet. I had to put it down during finals but played through 2 chapters last night and they were fucking terrifying.
Game looks fantastic. Again, haven't even seen Dead Space 2, but it's supposed to be better graphically as well. You're going to be on the edge of your seat about 10 minutes in. And the story is compelling, so pay attention to any info they spit at you. It might just help you get the edge on an opponent.
BTW, just as a bit of help, you'll want to skip a few guns from what I've heard. My buddy helped me with some purchasing decisions in game. I use the Plasma Cutter, Line Gun, Pulse Rifle, and Force Gun. Was told to stay away from Contact Beam, Ripper, and Flamethrower.
i had forgotten the good times of NCAA Basketball 2k... thanks for re-energizing my hate for EA to buy the fucking rights and produce 2 horrible horrible college basketball games... like they didnt learn from the failure of NBA Live after 2k starting making NBA games and their failure with NCAA March Madness
2k8 is still in heavy rotation in my xbox. There is a community of people that make and update rosters for 2k8.
The Contact Beam, if I remember correctly, is the strongest single-shot gun in either game. That weapon was fun as hell to use, too. The upside of an upgraded Contact Beam later in the game is amazing, in my opinion.
Rented the first game tonight. How many hours would you say you have put into it? I only have it for five days and probably wont be able to put much into it this weekend with the Oaks and Derby.
Exactly if they made a movie for it they would most likely get Uwe Boll to direct it, and he would ruin the series for me. They made a animated movie it is on Netflix it really isn't that bad.
Yeah I edited my post. Uwe Boll would be the director, and this series would be ruined. Just watch Event Horizon if you need a live action movie close to the game.
also: blitzball is the best mini-game in videogame history. I could play that shit for hours NextBuck knows what I mean
Just beat the first Dead Space. Pretty cool little ending. How does the second one compare to the first?
yes, i fucking loved blitzball. that game was one of my favorite games ever, must've played over 100 hours
Wolfenstein 3D http://wolfenstein.bethsoft.com/game_NA.php might just ruin my productivity for the day today
just wanted to reiterate how good Blitz 64 is. it's deceptively deep for such a seemingly simple game. i won't say it's the GOAT arcade game, but it's how an arcade game is supposed to work.
depends on how you play i was always bad at SC so i had a decent time killing time with it. i'm guessing it's still up, but it's been awhile since i've played it. there's also a Quake 3 browser game, but idk if you're into that
btw if you have the hardware to run them properly, the Supreme Commander games are worth giving a shot 1000x over. i won't say that they're better than Total Annihilation, but they're still pretty sick (and i suck at RTS games)
Watching my friend's dad play Wolfenstein 3D when I was a little kid was a jaw-dropping moment. I couldn't believe you could play such an awesome game on the computer and at home nonetheless. When he showed us you could drink the blood off the floor to get health back ...
The Kingdom Hearts series will always hold a special place in my heart. I just saw that they are releasing a new one for the 3DS, so I will definitely be watching a playthrough of that. The soundtrack and music in this game series is one of the best ever in a video game.
woke up and beat Portal this morning. such a great concept. i'm pretty sure i got it for free on Steam too
