I binge-listened to all of those podcasts while driving home last weekend. Great stuff. I especially loved the one they had with Keri Russell. That woman has a filthy mouth. And I love her for it
Can't wait to see what happens with Paige, that would be so difficult for Phillip and Elizabeth, not for fear of her telling someone, but just her judging them now and how she will treat them.
That scene was absolute perfection. I loved Phillip's diminutive head nod to Elizabeth to say he was on board with telling her. And after all of Elizabeth's pushing for this to happen, she balks at the last moment and it has to be Phillip to actually come out with it. All three of them deserve, at the very least, Emmy nominations. This season has honestly been one of my favorite seasons of any TV show I've ever watched.
if this show doesnt get an emmy nod after this season it never will. just an amazing last few episodes.
Ok. I'm drunk and offering opinions on a few different shows on this board and have to chime in on what I love about this show. There is absolutely no hand-holding in regards to the storyline. For example, they mention the ISI and the mujaheddin once in that recorded phone call that Phillip picked up from Kimmy's house. No frame of reference. I had to google what the hell those were just to understand what they were talking about. Also, the meticulousness of what TV shows, movies, songs are being played during each episode are researched so as not to have something that wasn't EXACTLY released at the specific timeframe they are portraying. It does nothing for the story, but it lends to the sense of perfection that the writers strive for. The acting is extraordinary. I believe every single character and everything they say in every scene, every time. Even the secondary characters have been great. Martha and the bumbling Stan. Holly Taylor as Paige definitely deserves an Emmy nod. Shit, Walter Taffet is great, Nina still seducing, even fucking Henry with his Eddie Murphy routine. This season has been amazing. Best show on TV.
where has she supposedly been the entire time? I get the old guy took her role, but just showing up without us knowing where she is in the background...and I thought she was kinda warning them in season 2's finale about the Center's plans for Paige - now she is adamant Paige turn to the dark side.
I think they implied that she was working in the Center - when Gabriel asked what the reaction was like at the Center when Jared killed his family, she said she had "seen nothing like it before." At least that's how I interpreted it.
I think she offs herself. Especially if Clark/Phillip tells her the truth about who he is. She is already a complete emotional wreck right now. Her knowing the implications of being "married" to a KGB agent could definitely send her over the edge. Phillip might actually be hoping that she does so he doesn't have to do it himself. I think he really cares about her on some level and I'm not sure he could actually bring himself to do it.
If this happens, it would also most likely close out the investigation into who planted the bug. I would be surprised if that's a storyline they'd carry over into next season.
I agree w you on Phillips sentiments towards Martha. He doesnt love her, but definitely feels some level of guilt/empathy having drug her into this whole thing. Having said that - no way he leaves it up to her to kill herself. Way too risky. He absolutely does it himself.
I thought it was a tremendous episode, especially the last few minutes with the combo of Philips speech on top of what Paige is going through. It's perfect for a show that's about relationships and inner conflict. The spying is really just a vehicle for it all. Pastor Tim isn't long for this world. Paige is about to get an adult lesson in consequences of what happens when you tell secrets to make yourself feel better. Loved the contrast with what Paige did compared to what Philip didn't do with Mrs Beeman even though it was obvious he wanted to do it.m
Goddam that was tense. I missed the connection - who was that dude Phillip killed and why is that supposed to pacify Martha?
he worked at the FBI office with her, had the 3 hour interview with Taffett. Not sure if he was starting to come onto her or what.
he worked the mail or IT or something at the FBI. think Philip made his death appear as a suicide then wrote a death note on that PC claiming he planted the bug
Ohhhh. Didn't recognize him. I guess Phil thinks that will put Martha at ease that the heat will be off her. I think the guilt from that will make her even more unstable
Also - just when you think Elizabeth is softening up, the Reagan speech seemingly hardens her right back up
re: Paige. when she was baptized and the overhead shot showed her in the water, I sensed foreshadowing.
I just don't know what to think about how this has all played out. I really expected Phillip to kill Martha this episode. The FBI stuff was pretty good and I have no idea what to think about that whole thing with Phillip and Sandra.
I agree w the Martha stuff. She's s huge loose end. Seems pretty out of character they didn't kill her
Phillip is slipping, not only as a spy but also as a husband/father. Interested to see where his character goes from here
I think he's becoming a better /more caring husband and father, which is causing him to slip as a spy
yea I would have off'd Martha a long time ago...but obviously its the Center's call when it comes to things not-related-to the Jennings household.
I think that is the struggle for him, being a better dad but also carrying out what needs to be done as well. Its why i say he is slipping because he isnt as visible, Henry probably views Stan more as his dad now than his own dad.
