I'm sad it's about to end. Even though last season was hard to watch this has been a consistently great show. Feel like Elizabeth kills Stan so Paige and Philip can get away leading to her living the rest of her life in prison. Oleg doesnt rat on the two and is in prison as well.
In retrospect, that’s exactly how we all should have expected it to end. Not really what I was hoping for, but it fits the tone of the show.
Was a depressing end. Everything that they had for pretty much their entire lives was gone in a flash.
that parking garage scene is one of the best i've ever seen in a tv show. sort of subverted expectations in that a show as bloody as this featured nothing of the sort in the finale. i think it all worked though. fantastic show. fantastic finale.
Also expected to see Paige in custody, which in hindsight wouldn't have made much sense because I doubt the train would've taken off. Little surprised at the relative lack of suspense, but going full on heart wrenching was still a great way to go out, and yes that garage scene was amazing. Really want to give the whole series a run through again now.
I was thinking how if I was Stan I would let them go and take care of Henry. Love thats the way it went although I would've enjoyed felicity getting got. I'm glad they got stuck in Russia in the end. They deserve it. Also lol at Stan going for some forbidden Russian puss.
We still don't know if she was Russian, there was just a subtle implication that Stan didn't believe she was, at least that's the way I took it.
I was kind of joking, but he has no clue either way. He obviously has to suspect her. So instead of investigating/dumping her he just keeps banging her? I get it.
i mean i think if the show were to continue he would obviously investigate her. there was no real purpose in showing that at the end though. instead they wanted to display stan's dismay at the whole situation. also wouldn't be a particularly smart tactic in the wake of phillip and elizabeth's unmasking to immediately dump his possibly-russian girlfriend and tip his hand.
Thanks. Was trying to play out the timeline of when they could realistically reunite, even if outside of the us
I was expecting more blood and some people to die but I kind of like how it also went down. Stan got some what of a reprieve and didnt have as much egg on his face since he told his boss he suspected they were the couple they were looking for. I felt bad for Oleg and his family. I wonder if Stan letting Phil and Elizabeth go was in a way guilt for how he dealt with Oleg and Nadia. The way it ended I could totally see a spin off with Paige still doing spy stuff in America and Stan trying to see if his wife was involved. Great show. Sad it's over.
I'm happy with the ending. Thought the saddest part by far was calling Henry, that had me very watery. Matthew Rhys for me played his character as well as any I've ever seen, amazing. Fabulous show, gonna miss it. This and halt and catch fire will be 2 of my all time favorites.
When they were discussing Gorbachev and Oleg, anyone know what Phillip said that kinda turned the tide on Stan letting them go. Turned CC on and the end of the sentence was "in est", had no idea what it meant.
I thought it was as close to a perfect ending as possible. The parking garage scene was incredible. And I don’t think I’ve ever been as anxious/nervous watching anything as the train scene. The tension they built for the payoff was palpable. When I saw Paige standing on the platform, my heart just sunk, but realized it was infinitely better for Paige. This could be the year The Americans gets some real Emmy love. Not just nominations. Like actual wins. GoT, Better Call Saul and Homeland all will not be eligible for this year I believe, so there is some room out there for The Americans to win some. But knowing the Academy, some shit show like This Is Us will take best series. Which would be a huge dissapointment, because this season was fantastic and the show deserves some recognition.
He said something like, “you should have stayed with me in EST”. EST was that weird self-help group that they both attended. Not sure what he meant by it, but that’s what he was referring to.
Definitely not what I expected, but it really couldn't have been better. What a fantastic and underrated show. So does Paige just get to go on with her life?
I think they alluded that Paige trusted Claudia more than her parents with her going back to her place Also with Arkady picking up Phillip/Elizabeth that Stan got the message to the Russians or Arkady would have been fucked and not able to help them. that's what I took from it
I thought Arkady felt Okeg screwed him in America so him sending Oleg to America and being imprisoned was payback.
he followed that line up with something like "you'd know what to do here," so to me it seemed Phillip was saying Stan would know to let them go if he'd stayed with it
Is she though? Stan knows that she's known about her parents for a long time but even he didn't really get information that she was actively participating. No one else knows anything other than she wasn't at her apartment by the time the rest of the FBI figured out P & E were Russians. It would be tough to just slide back into her old life as she would be questioned/interrogated hard and, unlike Henry, actually does know stuff but I don't think she's completely burned. Her ending was probably the one left most open.
I didn't see it like that, think she just went there knowing it'd be a momentary escape to process everything
For a finale where no one died, that was an incredibly depressing, but perfectly satisfying ending. Great great great show. Sad to say goodbye
Damn what a good show. Most shows go too long. This has us asking so many what-ifs? I definitely think a spin off is coming like Better Call Saul.
Haha https://www.rollingstone.com/tv/features/the-americans-series-finale-interview-w520779 Good interview with the creators and stars
Great ending. Last meal in America was McDonalds. Was a shocker for me when Paige was out the window. Got real dusty there and the phone call with Henry.
Kinda drunk but do any of you think about shows long after they finish; been thinking about this for a while and how great they developed the characters. Halt and catch fire(not very popular but incredibly good) and lost are probably the other 2 that have stuck with me bc of incredible character development. Just really feel for the characters in them, americans deserves all the awards.
4 seasons. It has a true (and nearly perfect) ending. You can skip most of season 1 if youd like. https://www.google.com/amp/s/uproxx.com/sepinwall/stream-this-in-the-summer-halt-and-catch-fire/amp/
Definitely had the same experience, I don't think there's been another show where I cared so deeply for so many of the characters. Couldn't stop thinking about the parking deck/train scenes from the finale or how their lives would play out from there, finally just said fuck it and started a rewatch of the whole series. I'm a couple episodes deep into season 3 now, Nina's days are coming to an end :(
To add on to that post, it legitimately made me happy imagining Philip and Elizabeth enjoying the specatacle of The World Cup in their home country.
Will be watching. This board has probably done more for me on suggesting good tv than anything else. I basically don’t even start watching a show unless it gets a majority approval on here
