Maybe because I love cooking shows and absurdity, but my fiancée and I are really enjoying Food Wars and will be getting the cook book based off it. I’ll admit the fan service is pretty ridiculous reminds me of High School of the Dead, but descriptions of the dishes and visuals are freaking hilarious and creative.
So I need to watch a lot more anime to get more than half those references. The Raiders were One Piece, the bye week was Avatar, and the 9ers was Naruto but that’s about all I got on first watch.
No South Park “Good Times with Weapons” reference, I am disappoint I know nothing about anime, but I enjoyed that intro
Its actually almost a frame for frame creation of 1 Punch Man's season 1 opening's ending Also the Kyler art style is demon slayer The chargers/ chiefs robots are from gundam
Finished Naruto. Backing off my GOAT story claim, but it was wonderful overall in spite of some flaws that frankly I’m mostly fine with glossing over. The story continues with Boruto, but holy shit does it suck. I’m out and think I need a break But this entire Anime sprint this year was incredibly unexpected and enjoyable
Naruto and One Piece seem like too big of commitments to me. But I’m considering watching Bleach next which I think is like 300 episodes so what do I know.
Bleach starts off amazing and loses its way a bit once you get to about the midpoint. Ichigo is an interesting character, but I don’t think Kubo did a great job of giving him motivation or goals to push forward. I’d definitely recommend it solely based on the art style/character designs/fights though. All exquisite.
I’d add the world building and mythology to the reasons to watch. The second arc…..that’s when the show becomes amazing. The filler arcs are very mid. Highly recommend finding a viewer guide that tells you what episodes or arcs to skip.
This debuts Monday on NEtflix. Seems interesting to me. From the same studio that did Vinland Saga and the first three seasons of Attack on TItan
Spoiler Lotta people say the kaguya knife twist on madara ruined the ending. I dont agree But the war arc couldve been executed better
Spoiler Naruto in general was awesome at world building and a slow burning escalation of intensity. I mean how many years did it take to see him finally leverage the full power of Kurama? Amazing pay off. I started quipping about GOAT potential early in the War Arc. While I appreciated diving into lore by being directly exposed to long dead characters, the reanimations never really sat perfectly with me. Kaguya being an alien was pretty weird. Obito's redemption didn't completely land with me. Finally, I think Hinata should have been made a way more compelling character given where she ends up. You can also quibble about inconsistencies in abilities over the years (like whatever happened to the Sharingen giving one the ability to copy everything). But again, I'm fine forgiving all of that. I may have backed off the GOAT claim, but I think Naruto is at the very top of my favorite fictional worlds I could literally write/talk about this stuff for days, but I'll leave one last parting criticism: When Nagato absolutely wrecked shit in the Village of Hidden Leaves, I was sitting there with a level of shock that equaled what I felt during my first read of The Red Wedding. I realize it can be argued it had to be undone; otherwise, it would be impossible to imagine Naruto being able to ascend to his enlightened "break the cycle of violence" through forgiveness mentality, but... if all those people would have stayed dead, that would have been one of the wildest events in fiction and fun to explore the aftermath emotionally. edit: wait. The forgiveness came before the undoing, so disregard the caveat. They all should have stayed dead
Spoiler The movie Naruto The Last is essential viewing because you finally see Naruto and hinata get together. I agree kishimotos writing for hinata and sakura was god awful. Agreed on the jutsu that reversed everyone's death There's a really good video breaking down the mistakes of the ending
Spoiler It's wild that it's so convoluted that I can mostly agree with everything pointed out as weaknesses but also disagree on a lot of the "fixes." The threads are easy to find and pull on, but it's like, well did that actually do anything positive, or was Kishimoto closer to nailing it than I thought? I read that he was really burned out and rushed by his publishers to finish, so I'm guessing that largely contributed to the sloppiness. And yeah, I watched The Last. Appreciated that it added to Hinata's character, but I still don't completely buy their relationship. A fiery and powerful character in the mold of like Guren would have been more fitting jmo
Yea when I read your best story of all time claim I was like woof he is in for a gigantic let down. Let me guess you made that proclamation during the pain arc?
Kurapika the GOAT. The fact we are never seeing the Dark Continent and Chrollo v. Hisoka animated is immensely sad.
If they come back with chrollo vs hisoka and give it some demon slayer level animation the internet will have to shut down for a few days
Very early war arc, but close enough. You have Hunter x Hunter as a personal near top? May check that out next time I feel up to something new
First few seasons were awesome until close to the end with the story lines being rushed & awful. They did the fans dirty by jumping the shark like they did. Was fucking bullshit
Yea I don't want to hype it too much for you but I definitely think you will like it especially if you enjoyed Naruto. Naruto took a lot of story beats and character types directly from Hunter.
Y’all making me want to do a rewatch. Randomly watched Killua v. Jones on YouTube yesterday. So good…
The chimera ant didnt do a lot for me. Tons of hype around the internet only to be let down (aside from that big fight at the end between the main bad guy and the other guy) Now the Yorknew arc...
