    UA Chancellor Joseph Steinmetz resigns
    Education
by Jeff Della Rosa ([email protected]) 13 hours ago 1,142 views

Joseph Steinmetz, the sixth chancellor at the University of Arkansas, will resign Friday (June 18) after serving in the position for more than five years. Steinmetz noted Thursday (June 17) his surprising decision to step down in a letter to faculty, staff and students.

UA System President Donald Bobbitt will visit with constituents on campus and external university supporters before announcing plans for Steinmetz’s replacement, he said.

“In my annual commencement address, I sometimes tell graduates that the key to a purposeful and enriching life is to find a career that creates deeply meaningful work and not to settle for anything less,” he wrote. “For the past 38 years, higher education has been not only my vocation but my absolute commitment. My wife Sandy is the reason I get up in the morning, but the promise of teaching and learning, research and discovery, and outreach and engagement has kept me returning to the office day after day, year after year — steadfast in my belief of the power of higher education to improve lives. I still strongly believe in the mission of higher education, yet given the many challenges found trying to manage a university in today’s polarized society, I need to do what’s best for my family. And I feel ready to make way for others.”

He highlighted his accomplishments, including achieving a first-year student retention rate of 84.7%, a six-year graduation rate of 68.5% and a 3.75 average GPA for new freshmen in the entering 2020 class. He also noted awarding 6,894 credentials in 2020 and that the Student Success Center is expected to open later this year.

“Heading into the fall, we expect a record-sized freshman class and our largest student body enrollment to date,” he said.

The UA exceeded its billion-dollar fundraising campaign goal by raising $1.44 billion when the drive ended in June 2020. The UA received a $120 million gift to endow the School of Art and a $194.7 million gift to promote research and commercialization. The Institute for Integrative and Innovative Research (I3R) is expected to increase the UA’s research and innovation capacity and distinguish the UA by creating a flexible, collaborative framework designed to contribute to the integration of research across five clusters of innovation, he added. The planned $100 million research building, which is being paid for by the gift, is in design and expected to break ground this fall.

“In short, there is much to look forward to in the months and years ahead,” Steinmetz said. “I’d like to thank President Bobbitt and the Board of Trustees. We have the most supportive system and trustees, and I’m grateful for their constant support of the mission of the University of Arkansas as well as my leadership. But as important, I’d like to thank not only my leadership team, but the entire University of Arkansas community of faculty, staff, students and alumni for their passion for this great institution and their desire to make the university a better place.”

The announcement came shortly after the Board of Trustees of the University of Arkansas went into executive session at 2 p.m. Thursday for more than one hour but took no action. Asked why the board went into executive session, Nate Hinkel, director of communications for the UA System, said “for the purpose of considering employment, appointment, promotion, demotion, disciplining or resignation of public officers or employees for the various campuses of the University of Arkansas System.”

Steinmetz became the chancellor on Jan. 1, 2016, after serving as The Ohio State University’s chief academic officer since July 1, 2013. As executive vice president and provost there, he oversaw the administration, coordination and development of all academic functions of the university.

Prior to Ohio State, Steinmetz was dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Kansas and was also a university distinguished professor. He served for 19 years at Indiana University, where he was executive associate dean for the College of Arts and Sciences and chair of the Department of Psychology. At Indiana he was also a distinguished professor of psychological and brain sciences. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Central Michigan University and his doctorate at Ohio University.

Luckily the pitcher couldn’t throw one.
He hit this pitch about a mile straight up. Took like 10 seconds for it to reach the LF’s glove

Not sure if he still does but he had a kid that went to Shiloh and he was a huge pain in the ass for everyone to deal with, and I’m sure you know how he was mad he didn’t get a job and that no one had reached out to him on the football staff.

DL Nico Davillier committing to us in about 20 minutes. My 2nd favorite in state recruit behind Chamblee. Kid is super athletic for his frame and was instrumental in Maumelle upsetting Sylvan Hills (high 4* SG Nick Smith) in the state semifinals this last year.

    Basketball recruiting update:

    2022-
Kelel Ware moved up to #17 in 247 rankings and now a 5 star.

Nick Smith #20 and now also a 5 star. Smith is reportedly transferring to NLR to play with Ware.

Derrian Ford dropped a couple spots to #60/42 in 247/composite rankings

Joseph Pinion moved up one spot to #138.

PF Kijani Wright who just visited is #10/11 overall on 247/composite rankings.

PF Zuby Ejiofor who just visited us #41/45 in 247/composite.

SF Barry Dunning of Mobile AL who just visited and is ours if we want him is #74/60 in 247/composite rankings.

SF Jordan Walsh who just visited is #88/52 in 247/composite and shot up to #12 overall and a 5 star on espn.

    2023:
CG Bryson Warren (now at Link Prep in Branson) is #32 on 247’s 2023 class, and ESPN just moved him up to #16 and a five star. He’s an in state kid that went to prep school.

PG Layden Blocker (now at Sunrise Christian in KS) is #58. He also is an in state kid that just transferred out to get further development/exposure.

Basketball recruiting has never been better since the 90’s.

Ware is a kid we can’t miss on. You just don’t produce those kinds of players very often at all, especially right here in your back yard. Smith will be a challenge, but things are improving with him. Still think he leaves the state. Ford will be a hog.

As of now, we have the #21 class in the country with 12 commits, with one of those being the deep snapper so he doesn't really count. Five 4 stars and 6 three stars. We have an elite safety commit out of Michigan in 4 star Myles Rowser, the two stud OT commits in 4 star Andrew Chamblee and 4 star E'Marion Harris. Chamblee has a huge frame at 6'6 285 but could easily put on 40lbs mostly in his arms and shoulders and still look fairly lean. Harris is massive at 6'7 370lbs. They'll obviously need to get him trimmed up a bit, but he's still very athletic for his size. Arkansas measured E'Marion at 6'0 255lbs when he was TEN YEARS OLD. They thought he was a prospect when he was just visiting the hill with his older brother. His dad is former hog OL Elliott Harris who played from 2001-2004. Getting our OL to actually have SEC size is huge for Pittman taking this team out of the cellar and towards mediocrity... and doing what he wants to do offensively. These two bookend tackles will play early and often.

McAdoo is a 4 star and a decent WR but I dont think he's the best in the state. No one from the eastern part of the state has done shit in like two decades. I like the Bentonville kid better but we need plenty of WR's. I really like Dubinion and Davillier as a RB/ATH and DL. I think RB Jointer is average and I think Henley is a project LB that got the offer because he's incredibly strong and is good in run support, but is terrible in coverage. Odom's son is best friends with Henley too, and Odom is at all their games and sees him plenty.

Now for how we finish the class and some decisions we've got coming up:
    • LB Mani Powell- deciding on July 2nd. He moved up his commitment date because we just had Crook visit and spots are getting thin. Was just offered by Michigan so they're a threat, but I'd be shocked if he didnt commit to Arkansas on Friday.
    • LB Jordan Crook- just decommitted from Oklahoma State a few days after visiting Arkansas. Very good chance he commits to Arkansas soon to try to secure his spot. No decision date set yet now that he's reopened it, but if it happens for us it wont be long.
    • ATH Anthony Brown- commitment date currently set for 7/29 and we ar ethe clear leader here.
    • TE Tyrus Washington- deciding July 7th. Very confident he picks Arkansas over UCF and Cincy. Teammates with Jaron Willis.
    • LB Jaron Willis- 4 star currently committed to Ga Tech but dont rule us out here. Visited Arkansas earlier this month.
Land these guys and our class would move to the #8 class in the country as of today, but that'll obviously change in the next few weeks with other schools getting commits.

Very good class for us that hopefully gets better in the next few weeks.

Not really anymore in football. Kinda lost interest during the Chad era. I’m friends with DW and occasionally we talk about this shit. Really just relaying shit we’ve talked about or from social media. I don’t even really post on any hog boards anymore outside of arguing about non sports related things bc I hate our fanbase.

My nephew is working on walking on at Arkansas so that’d be tight… but he might have to wait until January.

With basketball recruiting I’ve got some solid sources. I actually care about that program.

    https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Pepsi Challenge
A pepsi challenge is when a girl bends over in the doggie style position while you sit behind her so she cant see you. You then finger her with your index finger in the vagina and your pinky finger(or ring finger)in the butt-hole. After doing this for a minute or two, you take your fingers out and she must smell them to guess which finger was in which hole.

I don’t really like to project stuff like that because I doubt KB is here much longer after this season. He used to play WR and has added weight and started to stand out as a blocker and receiver, but it’s still too early to say. He’s going to have plenty of chances to play and play early but needs to keep adding weight
