Clark I believe allowed zero receptions on passes thrown his way. Slusher being back is a double-positive. It puts a good defender off the field and moves a bad defender off. We're still going to be in shootouts the rest of the way, but I like the way our DL/LB are playing, especially when it comes to rushing/sacking the passer.
Its hard to tell, but the TD that So Car got in the third last week, I think Clark was supposed to be covering him and got lost leaving the guy wide open. In going back and watching parts of the defense, it was surprising but Pool missed a ton of tackles that turned into big pickups for them almost single handedly being responsible for one of the MoSt TDs. Jayden Johnson was awful in coverage and at tackling as well.
Also not sure if I mentioned on here or not, but Catalon is retiring from football. Absolutely hate it for him. I hope he chooses to coach, because I think he’d be an elite DB coach. He may just choose to step away altogether though
Damn that is really disappointing. I was hoping to see him get a chance to play on Sundays. I really hope he helps with coaching. We could use a DB coach right now.
Think Clark was supposed to have safety help over the top. Not trying to be a Clark stan by any means, but dude knows where he needs to be. I’ve gotten some insight and respect into how difficult it is playing safety in our system. With every motion man, coverage/assignments change for our secondary. So when Petrino is sending guys back and forth in motion, the coverage and assignments change on the fly. He knew this and repeatedly exploited it. It requires some quick thinking and communication, and when you have such little experience in that back 5 there’s bound to be some breakdowns and blown coverages. Getting Slusher back will help quite a bit, and that’s why losing Catalon is such a blow… not just because of his physical abilities, but because of how intelligent of a player he is and he was our coach on the field.
Got a question apropos of nothing When Lou Holtz left, did UA try to hire Switzer or Jimmy Johnson? If so, how close were either to happening and/or how did the ball get dropped
Don't know about Switzer either way, but Jimmy wanted the job and Broyles went with Ken Hatfield instead. That was, to say the least, a "mistake."
from what i understand, Switzer wanted to come also but Broyles was afraid he would put the program on probation.
Wasn't that also the time where Pete Carroll wanted to be considered and Broyles wouldn't interview him? I know he was an assistant under Broyles in 77.
I will always have a special place in my heart for Stan & Pel, without them I would have never scored my current tickets
its like a curse of “shouldas” because we always end up with the coach who does worse that the alternate we passed on.
From Brandon Marcello: Dropping in again with a few notes I've gathered from my sources across the SEC and at Arkansas. I had a few I wanted to share regarding the future of the Arkansas-Texas A&M series since this is the big week for the Southwest Classic. Some of this might seem repetitive, particularly after Jimbo Fisher and Ross Bjork's comments in the summer, but here's what I know: - The Southwest Classic will not be played in Arlington beyond the 2024 season. Neither school has a desire to play at a neutral site. - It is understood that Arkansas and Texas A&M will not be permanent rivals in a 3-6 or 3-5 rotation, meaning they would see each other every other year instead of every year starting in 2025 when Oklahoma and Texas join the SEC. - Arkansas will not determine its future at War Memorial Stadium beyond 2025 until the SEC settles on a new schedule format and rotation, so don't expect any news on a new War Memorial Contract for a while.
Jimmy is absolutely true. He hated Broyles for not hiring him. He beat the dogshit out of us while at Miami because of it. The Barry and Pete are more of rumored folklore
i wonder if theyre going to burn mbake's redshirt having him press the gunner on punt returns maybe with the portal they're not as concerned about burning redshirts for skill position players
I have a buddy heading to the game tomorrow who is looking for 4 tickets if anyone has a line on any.
I've only been twice. First time stayed at a hotel that was in walking distance and last time took an Uber from downtown Dallas. What is parking situation if I just show up?
Arkansas didn't play football from 2012 to 2020. Those years literally just don't exist. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
I canceled my season tickets for the 2012 season (we were moving too far away to justify them) before Bobby's wreck. I had them for the duration of Bobby's tenure and then got out just before John L lit a torch to the place. I'm ready to get back in there.
