Mississippi State and LSU are going to roll all over us and MIzzou will pull away from us and win by double digits too. This was Bret's last win.
Bert in the presser was at times pissy and some of the same old bullshit. Different vibe In my opinion he is done and knows it
Good. I would say "don't let the door hit you..." but the door would have to be taken off its hinges just to get him out.
Per 'Ville (so you don't have to) TJ said they hadn't practiced the screen he scored on and was surprised it was called w him in it. Bert won't name starter for Saturday as a strategic advantage. Later in same presser talks about Cole having to control his emotions starting back home
Yea TJ said that in the post game. He said he was shocked as they hadn’t practiced that play and he was surprised. Seriously just what the fuck.
If you weren't sure about our D Ken Hamlin on Arkansas Football Spoiler LINK / FAYETTEVILLE — What's wrong with the Arkansas defense? Ken Hamlin didn't hold back when asked Wednesday at the Northwest Arkansas Touchdown Club. It was the same sort of thing he told the team a few months ago when he, Quinton Caver and Eddie Jackson spoke the morning of the spring game. “Overall, we just said that they aren't tough enough, not efficient enough," Hamlin said. "They have to be tougher and get off the field on third down. “I told them that I didn't see the passion, the accountability from within. I don't see the physical toughness. I told them I didn't know if they knew what it meant to have that Hog on their helmet.” Hamlin said the team was thankful for the talk. “What we said, they needed that," Hamlin said. Hamlin has watched the transition from the 4-3 to a 3-4 scheme on defense. He played both in the NFL. He isn't sure that it's the scheme, or just the lack of ability. “I don't know if it's the lack of talent, or lack of heart,” he said. “Maybe it's a combination of both. I do see the difference when they line up against Alabama. But if you give it your all, I can live with that. I don't see that. “I see players break loose and guys change speed (in pursuit). That can't happen. I see people back up to make a tackle. That should never be on film. There's too much of that. I know they can definitely do a better job of recruiting. “If your leaders are doing that, then the freshmen know it's OK. The leaders have to tell someone that they are wrong.” The transition to the 3-4 should have helped safeties read keys easier. “What we did in the 3-4 at Dallas made it easier,” Hamlin said. “The 4-3 requires more communication in the back end. In the 3-4 they shouldn't be factored into the run quite as much and shouldn't get fooled.” That's an 8-year NFL veteran talking. He was an All-SEC performer for the Hogs and started from 2000-2002. “What we tried to do at Arkansas was intimidate the other offense,” he said. “We had a 'Code Red' where we went to the other team's locker room on Friday and beat on the door. We wanted them to know we were there. “It was right up my alley. That was Coach (Keith) Burns. I loved to talk trash. “The other team in the league that talked trash was Mississippi State. They said they were going to run through our stretch lines in warmups. We were ready. We were standing straight up stretching because I wanted to be the first one to jump on someone's head.” One of Hamlin's favorite games was the seven-overtime thriller at Ole Miss in 2001. “Ole Miss fans talked trash, too,” he said. “They told us how they were going to beat them at the start. They were still talking in the first few overtimes. By the fifth, we had their respect. They knew by then that we were not going anywhere and we'd be there until we won.” Hamlin was asked about the greats of the game. He played with Peyton Manning in Indianapolis and Jerry Rice in Seattle. “I will say that 90 percent of what came out of Peyton's mouth at the line of scrimmage was false,” he said. “But he could make you believe he was calling an audible. “Peyton ran practice. He took control of every single move. He'd get the defense lined up and could tell them if there was a bad step anywhere.” Hamlin said he once had hotel security knocking on his door because he was too loud. “They said Peyton was next door and I was disturbing him,” Hamlin said. “I was talking to my little sister on the phone. I couldn't believe it.” Hamlin's nickname was "The Hammer." He had running battles with Caver to see who would make the most tackles. “We had hitters on our team,” he said. “It was a competition with Caver every game, every practice. “I'm not saying every player on that defense was a heavy hitter. Some guys were not, but they knew they could turn guys into the middle and Quinton and I would take care of it. That's how you do it. “And, we didn't mind blitzing. South Carolina wanted to throw it, but we came up with a defense we called 'Gamecock' for them. We put seven on the line standing up. We were all coming. They had two seconds to get the pass off or we had them. “The corners could play press and all they had to worry about was the slant or the go. There wasn't time for anything else. We dictated.” That's not what he sees now. “I see a lot of the same issues happening,” he said. “I see the same big plays. “I will say that I don't know what to correct. It's to the point that there are too many things to correct just one thing.” Are the players motivated? “You shouldn't have to be motivated to play this game,” Hamlin said. “If you aren't motivated, you shouldn't be out there.”
I feel like they're waiting till we're officially out of post-season contention. So after Miss St rubs their balls all over our faces they'll announce he will not return and that Rhodes will be interim for (the loss to) Mizzou
Love all of the senior starters and that the freshmen can come off the bench in reserve roles and don't have to be counted on right away And not surprised that barford and Macon are making a big leap even though they were both legit last season. Seems like juco kids are often a lot better their second year on campus And I've always liked Thompson a lot in the high post. That's a really unique skill
Posted this on our home board: Spoiler I didn't get a chance to watch them much on Friday outside of glancing at the stream on my phone here and there due to HS football playoffs... so it was nice to get a close look at this team tonight. I was lucky to be able to be right next to the bench tonight, so I heard a lot of the communication between the staff/players. Sorry in advance that this is gonna be long. First, let me say this. I think this team is special. We are pretty thin on the front line right now due to the Cook and Thomas absence, but I think in the long run that really helps this team because Gafford is getting some extended run that he may not have gotten otherwise this early in the season... and his confidence is there offensively. I think he's getting picked on a little bit defensively, but a lot of it is him still learning how to play at this level. After watching him in the state championship game, I was very please to see the improvement in his touch in the paint, and most importantly his FT form/percentage. His length and athleticism will always get him buckets around the rim, but that ability to stop and hit that floater without allowing the defense to draw a charge is something I'm really excited about. He did it 3-4x tonight. One of his fouls tonight was on the officials. He got hooked badly, and had to recover to challenge the shot on the reverse layup and got called. That ref got an earfull from myself and others. Barford and Macon are playing extremely confident, and playing at a high level. You can just tell how much of a chip on their shoulder they're playing with. Barford is that quiet/confident type that lets his game do the talking, and Macon is that emotional type that has a passion that we haven't seen on this team since Portis. Having a SR backcourt like this is something that is very rare. Both may average 17-18+ PPG this year. Even when they aren't on the floor, these two do a great job of communicating with each other and talking to the young guys on the bench. It looks like Macon is battling through a bit of an ankle and calf issue. Dave England was rubbing Macons calf with muscle rub multiple times during timeouts. They also had to re-tape his ankle the first time he came off the floor. Adrio Bailey and Darious Hall are two supremely athletic small forwards that are going to put up a bunch of highlights this year. Bailey's game has improved, and he's starting to add a little low post scoring to his game. That first bucket of his tonight was a nice drop step and finish with the left hand. Hall oozes potential, but is still pretty raw. He's a very good defender at times, but also picks up some cheap fouls every now and then. That dunk at the end about made me fall over. He's going to help this year. Gabe is a good athlete, and its obvious he's a little lost out there at times, but he's athletic and not afraid to mix it up down low. He'll provide some good minutes here and there, but once Cook and Thomas come back I bet he gets very limited minutes. From sitting close to the bench, his teammates kept calling him Reggie. I took that as him being a doppleganger for the character "Reggie" on Bad Boys 2, and man its a perfect fit because he looks just like him. Anton Beard has transformed his body this year. He's much more toned, and looks like he's gotten rid of some of that baby fat. He played like a leader tonight, and didn't force too much like I've seen of him the last 3 years. CJ Jones is playing with some good confidence offensively, and his shot is very pure. He continues to frustrate a bit defensively, and gets pushed around a bit by more physical/aggresive guards. He'll continue to improve as he continues to add weight. He looks to be making the jump into a solid contributor like we all hoped, and will make another big jump next season. He had a nice off the dribble shot from about 18' twice tonight that was good to see. Thompson continues to rebound and defend down low well. He plays within his role and does exactly what we need of him. He is capable of hitting a baseline 15 footer if needed, but his role is mostly defending the low post, rebounding, passing out of the high post on offense, and setting solid screens. I'm hopeful that Cook has made a nice progression over the offseason and can provide us some quality depth at the 4 along with Thomas. We're going to need those guys. Our rebounding has been very good the first two games, and I hope we can keep that up. At one point we had a 20-4 rebounding advantage with about 8 mins left to go in the 1st half. That's dominant. Overall, I think this team is special. Having Macon/Barford is a luxury that Arkansas basketball hasn't had in a long time, since probably the Pargo/Dean period. We've got length, athleticism, shooting, defense, and most of all.... confidence. This team is going to be special y'all.
just let bret finish out the season and fire him on friday. the whole staff, save possibly lunney, know they wont be back next season. no reason to do anything at this point.
If anyone is a masochist I have 4 tickets in section 115 & parking passes I'll let go for half price OBO
Don't the players love Bret? Isn't that kind of the problem? Players coaches have at least from my perspective never been as productive as hard asses. Maybe I am wrong.
We need to get by them and get that UNC game. Need to have a strong SOS in non conference with how difficult the SEC is going to be this year.
Anyone watch this and get nostalgic for when Petrino would breakdown his plays on the Sunday night Coaches Show? https://www.seccountry.com/auburn/c...ing-tutorial-auburns-offense-schooled-georgia
Great call dumpy, lets keep the AD that tried to hire Jim Grobe & Tommy Bowden and did hire John L. Smith & Burt
I don't blame him for hiring JLS. I blame him for not covering up Petrino's scandal like a good AD would have.
fair enough and I'm more upset about the big ass extension after beating a shitty Texas team in a shitty bowl than the actual hire
He was a very good fundraiser, but did some shady shit. Can't say I'm going to miss him, but appreciate some of the good things he did for the university.
