I am not taking anything as fact. I am saying there is a lot going on behind the scenes. The only consideration I wanted to say was that Jeff has interviewed for SEVERAL AD positions in the country with some larger schools. None have offered. That is the most telling point to me. If he is so great of an AD, then he will be snatched up quickly by a school who is "smarter" than us poor ole Razorbacks who were dumb enough to fire him. I guess time will tell who is right?
For sure. I just think a lot of the fan base has blinders on. Chancellor is a bigger issue than the AD is/was IMO.
I think a year ago Long could have gotten almost any AD job he wanted. I also think not everyone is aware Bret's buyout is only 5.9 million and falling; a lot still think it's 15 million which would be terrible and which makes Long look terrible. It's actually a pretty good contract, albeit one that should not have been made after a 6-6 season. The implosion of the football program reflects poorly on Long since football is the chief source of revenue at Arkansas and, other than a handful of schools, at every other major school. That's why Long will probably struggle to find a job of equal or greater stature than the one he just got fired from. Fair or not.
I don’t disagree. However I think you saw one side that a lot of others didn’t see. People in the RF hated Jeff. They questioned his decisions and were absolutely positioning themself in case the decisions he made came back to bite them. It appears those decisions were indeed coming back to bite them. Those in the national media who love Jeff Long have the luxury of seeing things from a distance and aren’t intimately involved in the day to day operations. So I definitely take their perspective with a grain of salt compared to those who are directly involved.
I disagree with your statement that Long could have gotten any job he wanted. From what I have been told he has been interviewing and had interest in other jobs. He hasn’t been offered. That could be several reasons but what I was told was it was more about the fact people weren’t really impressed with Long once they interviewed him. Perception isn’t reality.
This year is the first where I heard of him looking for other work. A year ago he was seen in much better light than this year.

The problem is the chancellor doesn’t care that much for athletics, and had butted heads upon arrival. The name I’ve heard that may get hired would be pretty fucking underwhelming if it happens. I’ll always support Arkansas going forward, but if they hire the name I heard it’d be a huge mistake to get rid of Long for him.

I don't think there's any way we get Gus. If we do offer, he'll use it as leverage to get a raise. We need to get an AD in place before the recruiting is shot to shit.

So Norvell? There's risk there but a good amount of upside too. Obviously if you can get Gus you get Gus, but that has getting a raise written all over it imo.
