I fucking hate Churchill Downs. Buys Arlington Park 20 years ago and almost immodestly starts bitching that racing there isn’t viable without a casino attached. after years and years of back and forth Illinois finally says ok apply for a casino license and we will grant it instead, Churchill downs decides to mot apply for a license at all and sells the property to the highest bidder I won’t be surprised if in ten years Churchill sells all of the race tracks it owns to propert lot developers except Churchill downs itself which only will operate during the first week in may.
Ive only been to 3 tracks. Fairmount Park as kid in StL. Churchill in the infield. And Arlington. Not an expert but it was a nice facility and fun to gamble on shit that I have no idea on what I was doing.
Not sure if you go to mizzou away games but a mizzou @ Kentucky game Saturday and a trip to Churchill or keeneland depending on time of the year would be a fun trip
Arlington was significantly nicer than the other horse tracks in the area. Hawthorne, Maywood, Balmoral, and Sportman's were (or are, in the case of Hawthorne) all dumps full of degenerates.
Sounds like there is going to be a significant amount of money put into Hawthorne over the next few years
A friend's parents had an owners box at Arlington and we'd go out there a couple times a summer. Was a blast except for the lack of anything to do after the races except get on the train and come back to the city.
I now live 300 miles away, so no. It may also be better since the last time I was there, but all I remember was a McDonald's and otherwise no place to use the bathroom or buy beer for the train home.
Yeah I like where this is going, what can go wrong. The city is going to spend millions on a feasibility study for a dome and probably come up with something more hideous than the current building
I'm fine with the Bears deciding that the next version of their home stadium needs to have a roof. Lori Lightfoot, the Chicago Park District, and the clown show that came up with the last version of Soldiers running the show is a horrible idea. What this really is: mayor that is up for reelection trying to not be the mayor that lost the Bears so she is going to spend a few million bucks on a study that will go nowhere
Hopefully a billionaire buys the team when the old bat croaks so they can build what this guy tells them
Now to be fair, I think that this was more to grease the skids on the development side, so the stadium part isn't important. But when you are leaving a stadium that looks like it was drawn up by a fifth grader, maybe just do a knock off Sofi or Jerry world
just need to rebuild it from ground up but NFL is going to do the wrong thing and build this in the suburbs, same with Washington team. Despicable but excess profit above all else.
They should build the bears their own Dubai island district in the lake. That would solve everything.
