I am so excited for another pointless season.
Trae Young’s +- numbers
Trae Young is good. I wonder how long it takes people to realize this fact.
New renovations are fire. Had a blast. Video boards everywhere you look. Atmosphere was live but that was likely bc it was opening night.
love Lloyd's defensive system. He is so damn active on that end of things.
If yall go - make sure to get tix for the Chef's Club sections.
God that was some horrid stretches of bball tonight. I about left after Plumlee aired a free throw.
been to two Hawks games and a Concert the past week. Really enjoying the updated Arena. Now just need a better product.
Need to continue tanking
Losses are wins at the moment
really need this loss tonight
Listened to Lloyd pierce on the Howard Beck pod. He’s really impressive
We have won 4 of 5. Doing the tank all wrong, just like the falcons.
Need to trade Baze. Him and Collins with Trae and Lin leading the show is too good.
Actually trade Lin too.
Agree on trade Lin and Bazemore for draft picks or high upside prospects that haven’t panned out plus expirings.
I was initially down on Huerter but the more I watch him, he’s a useful player in the current nba. He could be the 5th best player on a playoff team.
Collins might be top 5 player in the East
What a steal he was.
Name a better young duo in the NBA than Collins and Young? I’ll wait.....
it pisses me off how well we are playing
Do we get Cleveland's pick regardless of what their record is? That is, could we still end up #1 in the lottery if they end up dead last?
Cleveland pick is Top 10 protected. So we only get it in 2019 if its #11-30.
Dallas pick is Top 5 protected.
I am really coming around to Zion. He’s not perfect but he’s so much better/more efficient than I thought.
Collins and Young are great. Huerter didn't play tonight but he has been playing great.
Almost won on the road in Toronto without Baze, Huerter, Spellman, and Prince. Really wish we would trade guys like Baze, Dedmon, and Lin and tank.
I imagine anyone that still hates on Trae doesn't watch him play. Of course I wont be arguing with Trae Young haters on this site anymore.
Collins is a 20/10 machine. Who out of his draft class is playing better than he is right now and he was the 19th overall pick?
Does pointing out his shooting percentages and advanced stats, especially in comparison to the man he was traded for, count as hating?
Tatum, Fox, Kuzma, and Donovan Mitchell have an argument considering they are balling on a team in the playoff hunt. Easier to put up numbers when you're surrounded by shit.
The thing that always bugs me about this (and, for the record, I wish the Hawks had held on to Luka) is that it’s not like they were traded straight up. It’s Luka vs Trey + [Likely 2019 lottery pick.]
This is true. And there's some analytics argument for the trade, for sure. It's what Sam Hinkie would have done. But currently... yeesh
You realize he has been shooting 45% from 3 over like the past month? Which was your hater crews biggest complaint about him.
He's easily top 3 from the class so far and consistently improving.
Hope we lock up Collins forever. Damn good Deac.
His return took the Hawks from getting their ass kicked every game to a competitive team every single night. Even as guys around him keep getting injured he keeps us too competitive.
Which one of Luka, DeAndre Ayton and Jaron Jackson is he better than? I assume they're all done improving
Holy shit, he's still not even shooting 40% and has negative win shares. C'mon gaknight be better
I'd say he's much more consistent than Jackson who will have a big game and then follow it up with 2 pts and 3 rebs.
Did you even watch him take apart the Raptors defense today? No
I'm fine with his sub 40% shooting percentage right now. He's completely fearless going up against a guy like Kawhi and that matters more to me right now.
only a stat stuffer right Shawn Hunter ?
There is no statistical argument other than raw ppg you can make for Trae Young being a better and more impactful player at this point than Jaren Jackson.
We going to continue to ignore his elite passing skill set? Top 10 in APG while being the only person play sub 30 min per game and on a bottom 5 least skilled team in the league.
This is a legitimately insane argument. You can't spend posts screaming that he's a top 3 rookie and a clear positive and how can i not tell and then hand wave his shooting percentages as not a problem because he has spunk. Juan Dixon was also fearless, Sebastian Telfair was fearless, Nate Robinson was fearless. Who gives a shit?
So still a losing record in a mostly bad Eastern conference. How many of those wins come against winning teams? Just one. So congrats, COllins has elevated the team to the point where they can beat losers with a bit more regularity.
He's a very good passer, and his handle is tighter than i expected it to be at this point. But my guess is "Rajon Rondo without defense" is not a player that's going to contribute to high levels of winning.
Maybe he will develop a shot and figure out how to be like a value neutral player on defense. It's still really early, he's still young and needs lots of physical development, and there's definitely a universe where he puts it all together and makes an all-star team or two. But you're only making yourself look like a deranged homer when you spend pages screaming that he's great RIGHT NOW and that we're just haters because we can't see it.
literally an article from today that mentions 3 rookies
Trae Young was not physically ready to come into the NBA and joined the worst roster in the league. If you watch him play consistently like I do(and many people that follow the Hawks) he continues to rapidly improve. He's shooting better, he's making better decisions with the ball, and he's better at the rim. Use stats from the beginning of the season that weigh down his statistical numbers if you want though.
[The Athletic] - Young is on pace to become just the fourth point guard in the past 20 years — and 10th all-time — to average at least 15 points and seven assists, joining Chris Paul, John Wall and last year’s Rookie of the Year, Ben Simmons. His assist numbers should grow as the Hawks add more talent, but so should his scoring opportunities and efficiency. Meantime, Young is dazzling with his passing and impressing with his maturity.
I’ve been with Barstool for three years now and I don’t think I’ve heard people be more sure that there would be a bust than they were with Trae Young this past year. I think part of it was the over saturation with ESPN’s coverage last year. It led to a ton of anger, especially if you weren’t an Oklahoma fan. People started to root for Young to fail and we saw teams start to really focus an effort on taking away Young during February and March of last year.
Then he was traded for Luka Doncic and people grew even more into him being a bust.
Then Luka started to have an incredible year. There’s no doubting that. But, we’ve fallen a bit into forgetting about the other incredible rookies in the NBA this year mostly because of what Doncic has done – which, again, is impressive.
Trae Young is playing on a bad Hawks team. Let’s get that squared away first. It’s tough to say for him to come in and immediately be incredibly efficient and downright awesome. But, look at those stats again. He’s on pace to do what Chris Paul, John Wall and Ben Simmons did. That’s not bad company to be in.
I talked to someone who is a scout with a team in the Hawks division. He spoke about how they are all impressed with his passing ability. That was one of the things not talked about enough during the draft process. He was always a gifted passer that got overlooked because of his gaudy scoring numbers. At the same time there are concerns about his defense, which isn’t shocking. The one thing that the scout told me is they expect shooting to improve and they don’t think 29% from three is who he is as a shooter.
Barstool apparently leads the Trae Young hate which makes sense that Devine and Tobias lead the Trae Young hater crew.
Guys there’s a different thread for this
Casual 18/8 half for Collins tonight
and Red Velvet is staring down a triple double
but terrible on D
23/10 for Collins with 19 min to go
Who is Red Velvet?
It was a joke from the Collins article posted like 5 posts up
Actually I misread Rebs and Assists so just a double double
AH didn't read it, thank you
Mid 3rd Q team went to absolute shit. Probably worn out from last night.
Collins is a bum. Only a 25/9 night tonight.
Oh we beat the Sixers on the road
