Yeah, it used to be 3 IIRC. Top 4 are picked by the lottery and then everyone else goes in rank order after that. That's why when they're announcing the odds on lotto night, if they skip a team you know they're in the top 4. That also means, though, that a top 5 pick isn't guaranteed because 4 teams behind us could technically jump into the top 4, meaning we'd get the 9th pick.
I gotta quit looking at my "if we get the #1 and #6 pick and draft Zion and Culver/Hayes" spreadsheet and drooling over the next 5 years. It is not healthy.
Seriously, if Dallas finishes with a worse record because they are intentionally tanking then this front office can fuckoff.
This is why I havent watched the hawks this year. I cant reconcile cheering for my team to lose. Its so conflicting.
huge loss, now full 3 game clearance of Dallas with 4 to play. Now need lottery luck. sucks about losing Coach Bud but happy with Pierce after Year 1
Bud the coach yes Bud the gm can fuck off I’m still pissed at losing Al and Paul for nothing. Dealing Korver to Cleveland like you were going to acquire assets with guys like Baze and then doing nothing.
you'd think second night of a b2b, against a top tier team, we'd likely come out slow.... lol nah, 72 in the first half on 54% shooting.
So all chalk, #5 and #8? I'll take it. I've seen us with Hunter a lot and as much as I would love that, I hope it would be with the later pick and not the earlier one. Hunter is going to be a really solid NBA player but he's not really a playmaker. He's probably rightfully a floor play and you don't tank a season to take a floor guy. Also going to be really interested in who we take stabs on in the second round with all those picks. I bet with a couple bites at the apple we can get a decent contributor.
We got the right coach, the right GM, the cap space, the draft picks, and the young core built around a future all nba player and another future regular all star contributor. Most exciting time to be a Hawks fan since I can remember.
If we get 5 and 8, wonder if we could package those picks for a very good player on a decent contract. Also we get lucky and move up in the top 5
Yeah there's no one on the market this year that looks like a realistic option who would actually be a big splash. Ironically, and against every inclination I'd ever thought I'd have, I'd be intrigued by Horford on a decent deal and as a 3rd/4th option rather than the centerpiece of the team.
This draft is meh. I’ve seen Deandre Hunter, Koby White, Culver, Keldon Johnson and Nasir Little mocked to us....I’d take them and trust the current development and culture we have but don’t think any of those guys are nba starters next year. I do think Koby White can be a great bench scorer and the other guys bring 3 and D positional flexibility. One thing is certain. With our picks and cap space, this will be a fun summer.
