Hard to implement any sort of defensive prowess when your team is built around Trae Young. Not to mention, Danilo Gallinari plays major minutes.
trae gets picked on in the P and R but that has nothing to do with Randle setting career highs from 3.
I think Lloyd is very good at development. But it’s clear he isn’t able to bring the team to a playoff team. Hawks should be an attractive team for a good coach to come in. McMillan will be OK the rest of the season if LP does get canned. I don’t think we are even making the play-in now with Hunter out at least six more weeks.
I mean Portland finds a way to make it work with Dame and CJ at the point of attack. Watching Dallas/Portland the other night, Luka went hunting for Dame and got him more often than not, but Portland made it work. GS was an anomaly in multiple ways so the company is bad but 3rd season Steph was just as bad on D as 3rd season Trae 9-4 when he scores 25. yeah in a perfect world he’s better on D, but there’s no better predictor of us losing than when he struggles on O, and with Hunter out, the back court is all fucking shit. Hunter at least made defenses work, or he made them pay when they didn’t. Kevin still has nights like tonight, Cam erupts twice a month for 20+ We play 3/4 vs Boston upcoming. Hard to see it getting much better
You keep comparing Trae to Steph and Dame, you gotta stop with that. You and Gaknight compared Trae and Huerter to Steph and Klay, and that was probably the most disrespectful thing ever said in this website
Trae Young is a good NBA player. He’s not a great NBA player. There’s a difference in tiers to get there and given his defensive ineptitude, he may never get to that level. I think to be fair to Trae, people need to admit that to themselves. Also...I think we’ve reached a point where it’s okay to admit that Cam Reddish won’t be anything more than a rotation wing off the bench. He doesn’t shoot well enough to be anything more than that at this juncture. This team should definitely be better even with all the injuries. But it’s also hard for me to go nuts when Bogdanovic, Hunter, Dunn, etc. are all out and Gallinari, Okongwu, Rondo, etc. have missed significant time.
I agree with this. He can be horrible on defense but he can't suck on offense too. Those games we have no chance. He's a really good passer so is there a version of him where he doesn't take 25 shots and just facilitates? If we can just get that for his off nights we could be pretty good.
Thats the thing. He already pouted the immediate few games after the “film session” argument and then somehow a few nights ago doesn’t attempt a 3. This dude pulls up just inside half court every game but somehow can’t get a single 3 up in a game?
I don't disagree and I'm not the biggest trae guy, but he's young. Hopefully he matures and improves. Really hope the film session isn't why they are trying to move Collins.
I don't feel like Trae, outside of those few games after JC called him out, has been the biggest reason why they've sucked recently. Reddish seems to jack almost as many 3s and misses far more often.
last night the problem was we inexplicably went away from Trae AND JC in the 4th. Huerter and Cam being the primary shot takers is not a good look. Wing play has largely been reprehensible since Deandre went down. Occasionally one of them will go for 20+ but that’s been the exception not the rule. It’d be nice if they both decided to show up one night.
At the same time, neither Huerter nor Reddish would be playing as many minutes (hopefully) if they had a full complement of wings.
I agree with that. Huerter would be a great bench facilitator. I’d love a strictly bench unit of Skyler/BG Huerter Cam Gallo O Would let Cams mistakes not be as high leverage as well. Atlanta fans can’t have nice things
This is a hot take, but sometimes when trae is struggling I'd rather have Huerter out there. Obviously out best group is with Trae playing well.
Huerter is a guy that rarely impresses when I watch him play, but his numbers are low key solid. He’s useful. My mild take: I like Mays better than Goodwin...and maybe even Rondo.
If Mayes is the back up point guard the rest of the year I’d be ecstatic. Let Rondo come back in the playoffs. When his floater hits and you single cover him, he’s almost unguardable
This is the first Hawks game in a while that hasn’t been a frustrating experience to watch. I’ve got two tickets to see them in Orlando in March so hopefully that changes.
I can’t believe that we are so dependent on Hunter playing to remain a decent team. I expected us to be a couple of games below .500 with him out. Not this horsesh*t.

That was the best win we had in a while. Would really like to see what we can do with Hunter and Bogdan back.
Trae will never be a “good” defender but he worked hard in that half and wasn’t even the worst defender on his own team there. need Collins to score 20 in the second.
Not having Collins didn't help but there were multiple opportunities to make it a two score game at the end.
