Not just no.
hell no Chad.
what the hell is wrong with you Chad.
If the following players are on the board at 6, who you taking?
I love Deni but I’m operating under the assumption Chicago or Cleveland take him
Fuck the ping pong balls man
I would prefer it to say OUTKAST.
Ideal week for me
1. Deni falls to 6
2. Brooklyn does something dumb to cater to Kyrie/KD allowing us to snag Joe Harris
3. Sign Derrick Jones Jr
4. Sign Kris Dunn to a 2 year, 18mm deal.
We will be really, really fucking good if we have this week. Our defense will just suffocate people and we will have tons of playmaking / shooting
Keep our FA deals short but overlay since we have the space to add some vets
Not as great a week but I’m still making playoff reservations
1. Deni gets drafted so we draft Halliburton
2. Brooklyn keeps Harris but in FA we sign Moe Harkless and Paul Millsaps to 2 year, minimum type deals
3. Sign Deanthony Melton from Memphis to help run second unit with said vets.
Man I want to see the Hawks play basketball again
How is Capela/Collins gonna look?
How much more has Cam progressed in like 9 months?
What do we have in Hunter?
I think Collins is going to be amazing. His efficiency was absurd when he got back last year. He’s in year 4 and I think is going to be an all star.
I also think we can be really, really good on defense. Collins, Capella, Reddish at 3-5 have tons of length and athleticism.
I still think Hunter is best as a small ball 4, but in his second match up vs Harden he really did as good as you can vs that kind of scorer. Versatile and I imagine his 3 point shot will be upper 30s this year.
Sure, why not?
What is trae gonna be at the 2 with him on the court or will rondo just run the 2nd unit?
Keep thinking a want Onyeka if Deni isn't there. Need a big D guy like him down low.
That's what the latest espn mock has them doing.
He is my 2nd favorite player in the draft. I think he’s going to have an awesome career.
I’d love taking him, would force our hand to be aggressive on wings/ball handlers in FA but I’m ok with that
NBA Twitter- Cam Reddish a bust
Also NBA Twitter- Let's trade our draft pick for Cam Reddish
Late to the party here, but Hawks fan for 34 years. The draft is largely disappointing but I believe Okongwu is the best choice if he isn’t scooped up earlier. I think he can develop into a great pair with JC. They both can help make up for the other’s weaknesses. Plus he can come along slowly this season behind Capella. I would roll the dice on Edwards but not if it takes multiple assets to move up to take him.
As far as FA goes, I’m not in the mindset that we will sign anyone of note next season unless the Hawks have a run in the playoffs. So we might as well spend everything we can and take our cap room out for 21/22. We have tons of below replacement level minutes from our roster last year that should be easy to get a decent FA to fill.
I’m fine with overpaying Joe Harris with a declining contract. His game will age gracefully and he’s adequate on D. Dunn’s All-NBA defensive ability can fit in nicely with Trae even though he might struggle with backup PG minutes unless Huerter is there besides him to help create. That leaves us room for one more top 8 rotation player to sign. Point being is that once those ~60 minutes a game are filled with quality players, Collins doesn’t get suspended, and the young wings develop ever so slightly; the Hawks are now a playoff threat.
Welcome to the thread
From sports illustrated...
6. Hawks: Patrick Williams, F, Florida State
Height: 6' 8" | Weight: 225 | Age: 19 | Freshman
Williams remains the hottest name on the board coming into draft week, with many teams expecting him to come off the board in the 4–8 range. He could be a fit for Atlanta or another team at this spot. The Hawks have been active in trade discussions involving this pick, with an impetus to compete for the playoffs and a wealth of cap space. Atlanta has made a draft-day trade two years running, and there’s a real chance that will continue, with the Hawks looking to upgrade their roster while potentially moving back in the draft, as well.
Although Williams lacks a true NBA skill at this stage, his strongly built frame, defensive projectability and flashes as a shooter and playmaker make him a highly moldable modern forward. It’s easy to see improvement in key areas that would make him a versatile, multipositional lineup cog. He’s been the biggest winner over the past couple of weeks, working out for multiple teams inside the top seven and with league sources continually linking him to the Pistons. It appears Williams won’t fall much further than this
KCP is a FA. Could be a good defensive piece to bring home.
I’d love him. Would push Huerter to the bench which I think he’d excel at
Draft Okoro and be legends.
How do you feel about Trae vs Luka?
Gaknight may need you in a different thread
We should give Collins close to a Max but front load the ever living shit out of it while we have more cap space than we can spend.
4 years, 90 plus million but front loaded
Well I definitely thought Doncic was the better player to build around on Draft Day. Trae has exceeded every expectation I have had for him though. But Doncic’s size allows a lot of different paths of success for his team. Hawks have a much harder job around Trae because of his size. Doncic will be an annual first team All-NBA and Trae will be in that second to third team All-NBA rotation every year.
Good news is Cam will also be on these teams!
The haters are gonna be REAL mad this year.
I don’t see Cam ever being a top forty type player but he can be an above average playoff starter on the wing. Unless the Hawks get lucky in a future draft then Trae and Collins (top 25 potential) will be their top two players for the near future. Maybe I’m wrong about Cam though. Hopefully he does get to a top 25 player. Collins is severely underrated by the league however.
Wonder if we could get George Hill for cheap. We dainty really have anything to trade though.
Rude. I'm am currently contemplating rescinding my welcome post right now.
Any chance Edwards falls to 6? Is that even something we want?
Don't think so, and I think you have to take him if he's there at 6, unless some other team comes knocking with a big haul.
I'm just hoping its not Tyrese Halliburton (at least if we stick at 6). I just don't see it with him.
High floor and can help this year as the backup. Exciting shit.
Assuming Edwards/Ball/Wiseman are gone I like:
Avidja (doubt he makes it to us, but this is the ideal)
Trade out of pick
Hayes (tons of upside but not a great fit, just take him and figure out the rest)
Williams (upside, think he fits the NBA of the next 10 years well)
Okongwu (comps I've seen to Collins, Harrell, Adebayo are sexy; but foot surgery has me concerned)
Haliburton (fit but don't see the upside)
Okoro (DeAndre Hunter clone; just don't see what he adds that Hunter doesn't)
Vassell (Defense and upside)
Haliburton is a connecting player who would improve a lot of players on our roster with his off ball defense, secondary ball handling and spot up shooting. He would make us better but likely never be an all star.
Deni is similar, has a bigger frame but worse shooting numbers. I also don’t think he has one elite skill and will likely never be an all star. I prefer Deni but to suggest he’s multiple tiers above Haliburton is a stretch.
It’s a toe injury. Yawn
move him up
One of the ringer guys said we may sign gallinari as soon as free agency starts. It's all over Twitter.
We will be linked to everyone trying to negotiate, so take every rumor worth a tiny grain of salt.
Agents using Atlanta for leverage
they text a Marc Stein or Kevin O’Conner that they are “in talks with Atlanta for their client” and they use it to gain leverage for their situation.
gallo and Maga heyward were 100% agent plots for leverage
Deni! Deni! Deni!
Board breaking well for us
