In a perfect world we sign Bogdan or KCP and our 2nd Unit looks like Dunn Huerter Hunter Gallo Onyeka And our crunch time line up is Tré Huerter or Bogdan Cam Hunter or Gallo Collins with Dunn/Capela being defensive subs
I love the Dunn signing. Like the Gallo signing. Don’t like the Rondo signing but hopefully he can provide a vet presence in the locker room gone with Vinsanity retiring. Hopefully we still have a Bogdan offer sheet for four years ready to go and just working on the details. If BB signs and Kings don’t match then the Hawks have a very talented team that can match up against many styles. Only really see weakness at the three with lack of experience. However I see Gallo getting more time there then others are saying. He played quite a bit at the three before last season. I imagine they will be looking for him to create in those situations and Trae on the bench.
If Sac doesn’t match, we got him needed shooting and defense and we got a bunch of it, and will have a lot of line up versatility
Kings declined, we got him. my word we added some pieces. think about the garbage Evan Turner/Damian Jones/Bembry ( him as a person ) minutes with legit players like Gallo, Bogdan and then we get the improvement bump from Hunter/Reddish and a motivated Collins in a contract year. Gonna be a hellacious out come February once we get in sync. Lineups have to be ironed out for sure but man we have some pieces who are really good at what they do
I don't think Collins is on Bam/Jayson Tatum's level to warrant a max contract right now, I don't think see him ever being the #2 option on a championship team, and I really like the USC rookie to replace some of his production. You have him and Capella as rim runners, and Gallo to replace his 3pt production. If the package for Collins winds up landing them one of the coveted wings in the next draft class, that would be a game changer in my opinion. It just ultimately depends on what the offer looks like, but I think the Collins trade talk makes plenty of sense.
Shlenk is really good. mad frustrated as I was last year seeing us sign Jabari Parker and Evan Turner, I’m equally ecstatic this year. gobs of shooting
After having to watch Damian Jones and Co play good awful defensively last year I’m glad we will have this motivated defensive upgrade down low
Damian Jones, Jabari Parker, Vince Carter, Evan Turner, DeAndre Bembry as a second unit and then eventually Jones had to start some. Shlenk threw out a reprehensible bench last year. It’s unfathomable how much better a bench with guys like D Hunter, Huerter, Dunn, Rondo, Gallinari and Onyeka will be.
I’ve been completely sold on signing Dunn. Some games he might not see a minute but other games against the best guards in the league he should be playing 30. I love the combinations we can run this year. Even Reddish, Huerter, Bogdan, Hunter at 1-4 could be fun and have enough playmaking and insane size.
Today the Hawks play basketball and it's time for some predictions Trae Young easily cracks double digit assists with people around him that can finally shoot and score. with 9 months off, more spacing for spot up shots, and less having to play hero ball Trae Young begins his quest to become a 40% 3pt shooter. I conservatively will say 38% this season and 40% in year 4. Cam Reddish starts and will turn a lot of heads this season. We saw what he can be at the end of last season and with 9 months off, a healthy offseason, and working with Steph he will be a whole new player. Hopefully he finds the killer instinct he needs to go from good player to star because he has every tool. We go from the bottom 3 pt shooting team to top 10 this season. We have guys all over the court that can shoot 35% and 2-4 that can be in that 40% range. Tons of open shots will be had this season. Bogdan 37%, Collins was over 40% last year(not sure this is sustainable), Gallinari was over 40% last season and 38% in his career, Huerter 38% but expect improvement in a lesser more spot up role, Hunter and Reddish were solid there last season. Rondo doesnt play that much(unless needed) and Kris Dunn plays more than expected The defense will be better than expected. We can run many combinations based on who we play with 12-13 guys that can be in the rotation. Capela while not 1st team all NBA on defense will look like it after having to watch the cast of characters like Jones and Parker. Dunn is an amazing defender and him and Rondo will help guys like Hunter and Reddish(who is already solid on D) improve much quicker. If the D can be close to league average(definitely a stretch but possible) I say we finish top 5 in the East.
he’s so smooth but can get his shot off in a phone booth. a closing line up with him at the 4 and JC at the 5 is gonna be impossible to defend
he legit looks like an all star to me and if his efficiency is close to what it was last year we will be unguarable
Maybe we should start Trae, Cam, Hunter, Collins, Clint if Reddish and Hunter turn out to be the best wing defenders outside of Dunn. Hunter quietly looks really good this preseason
Capela seemed ambivalent on Jonas Huerter, Bogie and Gallo missed a ton of open looks hunter looks worthy of his draft slot every night so far. He’s gotta start at the 3. I’d start Cam at the 2. That’s a hell of a lot of defense and 3s.
