Hey Boston sexy bastards: *Shit in town that teenage zoomers will enjoy and perhaps get their phones (and tiktok) out of their fucking faces for like, 20 minutes?* Was thinking a Duck to start. Def Freedom Trail. Any other things they might like? Was going to grab at least 1 meal in North end, but open to any and all suggestions. Hotel is in Cambridge because I am not a billionaire and hotels in dtown are 350+ per night
Rent kayaks right in Cambridge - much more fun then the freedom trail. Very little current and can go across the Charles to the Boston side and get some great views of the skyline
Anyone got a couple of casual dinner recs in the Back Bay area? After walking most of the day I’m sure we won’t be doing anything fancy.
Going to be visiting Boston for the first time this summer. My significant other has to work out of her company's downtown Boston office for a week, so I'll be flying in mid week and staying through the weekend. Back Bay and Beacon Hill seem like agreed-upon good neighborhoods to stay in, yes? Besides going to the Red Sox-Cardinals game Friday 6/17, nothing else planned yet.
I posted some recommendations a few pages back. It's an elite city for biking, running and walking. Kayak the Charles River. So much awesome stuff to do. And legal weed!
Do you know where her office is? I would recommend staying in a hotel near the water - either on the greenway (Boston Harbor Hotel) or Seaport area. Things to do - day of Red Sox game, get down there early if you have never been. Plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from. Also they close down the streets near Fenway during games so It is a fun atmosphere just to walk around in. Others stuff to do - head over to Cambridge and rent kayaks and go out on the Charles. Fun way to spend the morning and get a different view of the Boston skyline. Seaport Area - The “newest” section of Boston. Former docks area that have been completely built up over the past 20 years. Bunch of breweries and has a walkway along the water. North End - little Italy section of Boston Boston Harbor Islands - there are a bunch of islands 20 minutes or so out in the ocean. There are ferries near the Aquarium that run every two hours out to them for hiking. I would recommend Spectacle Island.
Thanks for the insight, those hotels look fun. Looks like her office is near Congress and State Street. We'll be going to the 6/17 Red Sox game, everything else is still up in the air.
Just got tix for the Red Sox-Cardinals game on 6/17, went with seats in one of the Loge Box sections behind the 1st base side. Very very excited, looking into possible tours or ideal pre-game options. If anyone has any recs, let me know.
Also, we ended up booking a place in Back Bay for the week. I was pushing for something in Sea Port, but one of my s/o's friends incepted her at a recent brunch into thinking Back Bay was the most ideal, and I made a business decision not to make it a big ordeal lol.
Fenway area is loaded with bars and restaurants around there. Typical bar food so any of them around there are fine. If it is a night game, Fenway does tours of the ball park during the day that usually cost like 25 bucks a ticket. They usually start selling them a month or two in advance of the date that a person is seeking. Isabella Gardner museum is within walking distance of Fenway as well as Bolyston and Newbury street which have a ton of restaurants and shops.
Annual Cape trip coming up in July. Going to do a day in Boston and the morning before heading to the Cape I want to do the Science Museum with the little guy. What area would be good to get a hotel? East Cambridge or West End?
In terms of places to go before a game near Fenway, does anyone have anywhere specific they like? I think Citizen Public Oyster House could be a good place for us to start and have a drink and a bite, and I want to go to Trillium at some point while in town so the one nearby could be an option as well. However, if the best experience is to go to divier and more traditional sports bars (there appear to be lots of them), I think I'd rather do that.
I would look for a spot or two in South End or Back Bay and then walk up Huntington Ave and cut through the Emerald Necklace area past the Museum of Fine Arts Dugout Cafe right on Comm Ave is super close to the Kenmore/Fenway area, would look that up
Appreciate the rec. We're staying near Dartmouth and Newbury, so that walk is very doable. Per your earlier rec in this thread, we're taking a half day and may go to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum for a couple hours before we start doing pre-game stuff. So maybe we'll take that walk all the way to the museum.
Heading to Boston on Saturday and I’ve got a couple days before a work conference. It will be the first time in the city so I’m open for recs on restaurants, bars, and breweries. I’m staying the first part of my trip in Copley Square/Back Bay area. I’m familiar with Trillium and Night Shift so looking at going to visit them, but what other recs do you have? I know Jack’s Abbey will be too far.
Loved visiting your city this past weekend. Recommended listening for tourists and Bostonians will probably enjoy it as well.
In Boston visiting my new firm for their big annual outing. group of coworkers took me out to eat at Seaport last night and it was pretty cool despite the shitty weather. company rented out Supercharged entertainment today that’s pretty damn fun I believe we’re going to patriot place for drinks and such afterwards. Looking forward to seeing more of the city. Loved everything we’ve done so far. Really good “wicked awesome” city you guys have
if you are going to patriot place, be prepared for like a 40 minute drive. The stadium is like 20 miles out in the suburbs
We were already out that way at the Supercharged Entertainment place so it was close by. Really cool area and makes me wanna come back for a game. Fun city from what I got to see. Hopefully my firm flies me out there at least a couple times a year and I get to see more of it. one thing I thought was very odd. Every menu I saw had “Steak Tips” on it. Every single one.
Going to Red Sox / Yankees on Thursday. Any recs on where to eat before? Probably gonna take the T in early afternoon
Not sure how I unfollowed this thread… anywho… Friend of a friend runs this place. Always my go to near Fenway. https://www.citizenpub.com/
This place looks incredible. If I don’t make it to Fenway I’m going to blame this Rec and all the bourbon I consume
Boston friends. What’s the best area to stay if I’m visiting for a long weekend? Downtown, back bay, Boston common, or somewhere else?
Back Bay or South End? My folks got a good rate at the Colonnade on Huntington Ave when they visited me and that's a pretty awesome location
I’ll be visiting for a long weekend right after Halloween. My fiancé wants to see Salem and I want to do the Freedom Trail. I’ve seen the recs to stay in Back Bay/South End, but how big of a deal is it to get around to things if we stay in Cambridge as I think we can get a place just a little cheaper. I assume that kayaking the Charles River will be out of the cards due to the weather cooling down(?). Any unique things in the city the weekend of 11/4? If any of the prior Boston tourists had something they especially enjoyed, I appreciate all recs. letan BudKilmer TLAU
Staying in Cambridge would be sweet. Plenty of Lyfts and the T connects across the Charles River pretty easily Will always plug the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in addition to the Freedom Trail stuff. Museum of Fine Arts is super nice as well Let's Eat Grandma is playing The Sinclair in Cambridge November 5th. That'll probably sell out and will be an awesome show in a fantastic venue. Area around that club is sooo cool Northeastern men's hockey hosts New Hampshire at Matthews Arena November 4th if you wanna take in a game in one of the coolest college sports venues in the country. Harvard hosts Cornell on the 5th too fwiw, that'll be big time Harvard Museum of Natural History is underrated. Just walking around the campus and MIT is a nice way to spend some time tbh North End Italian restaurants >>>> Window shopping and looking at the old churches on Newbury St is fun too
Check the T situation before making too many plans. They’ve been doing major maintenance on a few lines and it’s been chaos lately
Going to be in Boston for work in about a month. Going to have probably 2 lunches and 1 dinner where I can venture out on my own. Staying right by Boston Common. Any good lunch/dinner recs? A good friend recommended the chipotle pastrami at Sam Lagrassas, so probably doing that the day I fly in. Also going to have a morning to myself. Was thinking about walking the freedom trail, but any other cool things to do in that part of town?
I’m not an expert on the North end food scene. but some places i love from the top of my mind is: Row 34 Toro Coppa Meyers+Chang Trillium for beer. their food is pretty good too but a little on the pricy side.
Yes. Stay simple with your order. I’ve had a few things there that are meh and others that are perfect. just wander around the north end before and after. It’s great to walk around.
We’re in a private room, so I’d imagine we’re doing one of the pre fixe menus. I was planning to walk around the North end at some point during the trip, so that’s perfect.
Don’t think I ever mentioned this, but the trip I had planned last summer to Boston got cancelled bc my girlfriend got Covid at a wedding the weekend before. However, I do appreciate all of the input from folks and we’re tentatively planning on going next May. However, I’m going to be in Boston on a 7 hour layover on Monday. I want to go grab some seafood somewhere, I think the expected wait at Neptune Oyster would not be worth it and possibly make it a bit stressful trying to get back to the airport in time. Any other recommendations for somewhere to pop into for lunch for a lobster roll, oysters etc? I saw Select Oyster mentioned in a different thread.
Go into Winthrop - town next to the airport and go to Belle Isle Seafood. Better than anything in Boston
Airport is on the other side of the harbor from the main part of the city and they are closing one of the tunnels from it starting next week for repairs so I wouldn’t recommend trying to get over to downtown if you only have a limited amount of time
