There's a young up and comer in Gainesville named Billy Napier that fancies himself a play caller. Maybe he wants to make the jump to to the NFL.
Are there any recently fired offensive HCs that we can hire (thinking Kliff Kingsbury-type). I know Doug Pederson, but no one wants to take the ex of the guy who just stole your girl. Trying to think of any successful college OCs that have at least coached in the NFL at some point. Kyle Flood? Chip Kelly? I liked what Shannon Dawson did at Miami this year, but he's never been in the league and I'm not a fan of giving someone who has no idea what it takes to win at this level that much influence.
Never been in the league. Plus his success was more of a function of going from Deshaun Watson to Trevor Lawrence. Give me a guy that has a track record of getting good play out of otherwise mediocre QBs just like Coen and Canales prior to being our OC.
Yes. Even though they've been bad lately, they've had good seasons. They were elite college QBs that would have been good no matter who was calling the plays. Much different than Canales pulling a pro bowl level season out of Geno Smith and Coen making Will Levis and Devin Leary look like good QBs when he was calling the plays.
I don't think we'd do it, but I think I'd be good trading for Myles Garrett. Also if you weren't aware, we promoted our passing game coordinator to OC.
True fair enough thanks. Feels like if he’s willing to go to that black hole there’s nothing we could have realistically done to keep him.
I'd love for him to stay, but if I'm Godwin, after 2 catastrophic injuries, I take the most guaranteed money I can get. He's got a ring and will be celebrated here in retirement.
Yeah the risk factor is obviously as high as it gets. I certainly won’t blame Licht if he goes to NE or wherever for more money.
Love to have Godwin back, especially if he's able to return to form. He was on pace for 120+ receptions and 1,400+ yds before the injury. He was WR1 in Liam Coen's offense.
Joe Tryon-Shoyanka signed with the Browns. How are we feeling about the Haason Redick signing? Seems like an upgrade over JTS for sure.
Feels like yesterday he was supposedly showing out in camp as a rookie, busts come in all sizes and minicamp reps. He literally had 1 pass rushing move at best. Posed elsewhere but for non Tampa thread people best of luck in left field. To me it's wild that act drew so many people.
Drafting a WR in the 1st seems like a wild choice. Guess we're putting all our eggs in the Haason Redick basket this year in terms of finding a pass rusher.
Legit excited for the offense with Mike, Godwin, Egbuka and McMillan + Bucky but giving Bowles the same roster to excute his "exotic" blitzes is certainly a choice
The options at edge were gone. Evans retires after this season. Stud pickup to replace him. Corner absolutely has to be addressed in the next round tho.
I don’t think he’ll be there, but if that BC edge guy if there will we take him? need rushers and LB on top of DB don’t hate the pick last night but feel like we might’ve been able to trade back and get him or an equivalent
I've come around on the Egbuka pick. High floor, high character guy in a pass first league on a team with 2 greats whose stars will be fading in the very near future (maybe even this year) isn't the worst thing in the world. Every pick from here on needs to be on defense though (I'll accept OL depth). Lavonte seemed like he lost a bit of a step last year. I imagine he retires at the end of this season. SirVocea Dennis and Christian Izien are back-up/rotational guys, and Jamel Dean (in addition to being very average) has never played a full season and is nearing the end of his contract.
I like Egbuka as a solid floor/WR2 guy but I still think we’ve got another 2-3 years of prime Evans/Godwin which makes the move puzzling. Really need to grab a CB at 53 assuming we stay there.
As long as they go defense from here on, I think we will be good. Who knows with Godwin and injuries scare me with Evans too.
Maybe they’re just going all in on trying to win the division every year at 9-8, playing mostly 50-48 type games
