idk, surprised we don't have one. I'll admit I've been sucked in recently by How To Drink on Youtube. Currently enjoying this concoction at a local spot. Socially distant and masked up, of course. https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2008/07/vieux-carre-recipe.html What are some of your favorites?
Moscow Mule is way too trendy but I can't say they aren't good when dome top shelf with fresh ginger.
I tried making these for the Alabama/Mizzou game. Problem is, the regular Laird's AppleJack just tastes like cheap whiskey. Have looked and haven't been able to find the Bonded thats 100% apples.
Yea I cant really drink dark liquor when its 100 degrees so I tend to go with the more refreshing ones more. There's a really good craft cocktail bar in St Augustine that does everything fresh. Haven't been in a long time bc of Covid but damn its good. https://iceplantbar.com/menu/
I've been on a big Fernet Branca kick over the summer thanks to having a friend who loves the stuff come back from LA for the quarantine. Not a lot of drink that use it, but that's another thing I've been loving about watching different youtube channels like HTD or Educated Barfly. Lots of really interesting old cocktails I had never heard of before. Never been one to keep a full home bar but I think that may be changing.
My favorite. Really got me into cocktails, despite being turned on to and drinking a lot of Old Fashioneds before ever having one.
Love a good egg white whisky sour. They're really good with peaty scotch - the smokiness and sweetness really work well. Only problem these days is finding a cheap enough scotch to mix.
Egg whites are such a great cocktail addition. First time I saw a bartender do it i was a little concerned, but that fluffiness is key in some drinks.
Man I am not a gin gal at all. But watching all these prohibition gin cocktails get made I had a hankering a few weeks back. Went out to a decently respected establishment (5 for you Alabama folks), and ordered a Negroni. I knew I was in trouble when the bartender hesitated. Then I watched her look it up, then she told me they didn't have sweet vermouth. I don't know what she technically served me but it sucked ass and didnt redeem gin at all for me.
I mentioned my fernet love affair to the bartender and she brought out her own personal bottle to give me a taste (hey-o). Its Fernet Leopold out of Colorado and the shit tasted like teriyaki. Awful. She didn't sell it like it was good, fwiw, she let me know it wasn't comparable to the OG.
like all cocktails, there are people who suck at making them, I am very sorry for your unfortunate experience with the king of cocktails Reading this breaks my heart
https://www.liquor.com/recipes/the-paper-plane/ Been really into making Paper Planes this year for anyone who likes to try new bourbon cocktails
Beginner steps: juice your own fresh citrus Make good simple syrup (it’s basically free and easy) Follow the recipe exactly until you know what you are doing
My problem with whiskey straight is there’s many times of feeling nothing for hours then at defcon 1, mixing for me gets the buzz all night without being a madman
made my first simple this summer. Did a strawberry infused simple that I used to make Gimlets with. Did not suck
basically just pomegranate juice and sugar. A little orange flower water if you have it, some people put a very small amount of vodka in it depending how much you are making. I don’t make it unless I’m doing a lot of tiki.
