the decision to spike on first down instead of calling the last timeout probably led to the packers winning fwiw giving away a down in that situation, you're probably playing for the field goal anyway, so why stop the clock with 40-50 seconds left? the more i think about it, the more it pisses me off
iirc they didn't even take a shot downfield with the two downs they had left. they spiked and then went for the first down. i get that it's easy to sit here 2 days later and be like "that didn't make sense" but
There's an ESPN article that plays out the probability of Dallas winning the game with spike and no spike. 3% difference between the two scenarios.
I love Tony but he has never had a 300 yard passing day or 3 touchdowns in the post season. Dak played his first post season game sunday and already raised the bar imho
Same, Honestly hope Tony goes somewhere, has success and doesn't end up in a wheelchair before he retires...
Consolation kind of, Once again as a lifelong Cowboys fan...got my hopes up. Though as in the last handful of years, am optimistic for next year and improving our Defense. Looking forward to the draft as well.
I see Logan Thomas is doing well as the starting quarterback of the Green Bay Packers in his Madden 17 Connected Franchise
Dak was still getting calls in the headset on the last series with the clock running. Romo would've called his own plays and had everyone lined up quicker. Dak will get better at it. That will come with experience.
Still getting hammered for the spike Nothing will convince me that it wasn't a terrible decision. Cost us the game
If he doesn't spike and they end up not scoring the touchdown and missing the field goal or losing in OT, the decision not to spike gets roasted. Like southside said it was a 3% difference in win probability. The worse call was not running Zeke on 3rd and 2 with a timeout and 30 seconds in hand when we've averaged 6.5 yards per carry in our last five games against Green Bay.
Ok so lets talk draft picks and free agency. Who do we target in the draft? Obviously the top top tier of pass rushers will be gone by the time we pick at 28 but who will be available? As far as free agents: do we resign Mo Claiborne? Barry Church? T Dub? Bryce Butler?
Barry graded as a top 10 safety if I recall. I'll take it and I think we keep Mo too after how well he played when healthy this year. I don't give a shit about Brice or Twill, they're both forgettable.
I question that 3% number, I feel like there's no way it was that little of a difference. garrett said himself that we were trying to score a touchdown, why would you take away an entire down with that much time left on the clock and a timeout still in your pocket? they still had to rush to the line and snap the ball, 5-10 more seconds to get a play called and the ball snapped still would have given you :35-:40 seconds left and less yards to gain, assuming a positive gain on that down. also, 5-10 seconds taken away from Rodgers, because you saw the difference that would have made
I think Claiborne could go either way. We'd probably like to bring him back on a team friendly deal. It's gonna depend on the market for him. I could see us bringing back Butler. Williams is gone imo.
Resign Church for sure and Mo and Wilcox depending on the number. Resign Carr for depth if you can get him for a year and 2-3 mil. Resign David Irving, let any other DLs expiring walk (Jack Crawford, Terrell McClain) Bring back Jonathan Cooper. Let Leary walk. Fill in LG and RT with some combo of Joe Looney, Cooper, Chaz Green, Free, and Collins. Let Williams and Butler go. FA: Sign a better backup QB than Sanchez/Moore Sign a cheap vet WR and TE Try to talk Riley Reiff or Ricky Wagner into taking a dope deal to be the RT of the next 3-4 years on the best line in the league Check the market on Brandon Williams, Dontari Poe, TJ Lang, JPP, Sheard, Andrew Whitworth, and Hankins if they go unsigned for awhile and may be looking at less money than expected. Optimistically trade Romo for a 3-4 round pick Draft (in this order): Pass rusher 1 technique WR CB Pass rusher OL DL or CB/WR with return ability
No, we picked him up after the Browns cut him just for postseason and he never played. I have read a lot about him from PFF and a couple other sites that graded him and I don't think hes really earned the reputation he's got as a total washout. He's graded average and does a lot of good things when he's able to get out and move and be athletic but he doesn't hold up well one on one against stronger defenders. For that reason, I don't think he's a starter but there's no reason he can't backup the interior positions and play as an extra blocker in jumbo packages and do that very well. I think he'd be an upgrade over Looney doing that. However, he was a former top 10 pick and maybe he puts it together and becomes a starter.
I have heard Carr is considering retirement so that will definitely be a hole. I did like what we got from Anthony Brown this year tho
hoping the line looks like this: smith - leary - frederick - martin - collins looney and cooper as backup interior linemen free and green can battle it out for backup swing tackle
what does the CB and DE free agent list look like? brown looked very good at nickel. could draft or sign someone to replace carr on the outside, play brown at nickel, and scandrick on the other side
I would like this to be configuration as well. As far as free agents go: JPP (DE, Giants) William Gholsen (DE, Tampa Bay) Stephon Gilmore (CB, Buffalo) D'onta Hightower (LB, New England) A.J. Bouye (CB, Houston) Prince Amukamara (CB, Jacksonville) Demarcus Ware (OLD, Denver) Melvin Ingram (OLB, San Diego/LA) Chandler Jones (OLB, Arizona)
Wouldnt mind getting ware back if its cheap enough. His locker room leadership and mentor value is worth it regardless
I assume he's gonna get Parnell-type money thrown at him and he is gonna take whoever is giving him the most guaranteed money with his knee condition

What are you guys hoping for in the draft? Some of these are a reach to be available at their draft position but this is dream world. 1st: Taco Charlton, DE, Michigan 2nd: Forrest Lamp, OG/OT, Western Kentucky 3rd: Dalvin Tomlinson, DT, Alabama 4th: Zay Jones, WR, ECU 6th: Keionta Davis, DE, Chattanooga 7th: Jordan Sterns, S, OK State
yeah when i saw that replay i thought that was a pretty generous interpretation of being in the huddle
This would not upset me at all, though I have seen mocks where Forrest goes before we even pick in the 1st (but mock drafts a guesses at best so whatev). Pretty much as long as we address, in some combination, pass rush, cornerback, and wide receiver, I will be happy. The last several drafts have given me enough faith in the staff that I trust their decisions.
If the local reports are correct you'll add Jaylon Smith next year too. If he doesn't end up a star I'll eat my hat. Kid is awesome in every way.
I cannot wait to see Smith line up at LB. As far as the draft goes, given where we are in the draft, I want either one of the Florida corners if they are there. I know we need pass rushers but good grief is our secondary weak at the wrong times.
I am so stoked to get him on the field. There were so many times this year when I would see Anthony Hitchens or any other LB we have outside of Lee be just a second late to make a play and just thought "man its gonna be awesome when thats Jaylon next year."
The Boys have quickly become my second team, mostly because of giving him a shot. I don't know if he'll be the same, that injury was nasty. But if he is, look the hell out. He's easily the best player in many years at ND and we've pumped out some pretty good players. Plus, he's just a great dude.
Yeah every interview or tweet i see involving him gives off a very high character vibe. I have faith he will heal up. Since the doctor that did his surgery is our team doctor, I think we had the best insight we possibly could have when we decided to take him. It was really cool to see Zeke kneeling next to him on the field when he got hurt. Strong connection already being built. It seems like our defense will have exactly the right kind of leadership between him and Sean.
There seem to be some pretty good TE's this year also, wouldn't mind seeing one grabbed. Otherwise Defense Defense Defense and perhaps at least one sure fire OLineman.... TE wise, it's apparent Hannah can't stay healthy (shame). And personally Escobar needed to be gone ladt year. Like Swaim, He and Dak had chemistry in camp and the preseason. Looking forward to seeing how the Rico project goes, does he have the hands to stay at TE or does he bulk up and become an OL ?
TE is definitely something we will have to eventually address. My guess is Witten is gone after next year win or lose. I have heard Gathers is wowing people on the practice squad but who knows what that means. Wouldnt mind 3rd round or below going to that position if the right guy is there
When we picked Taco I was neither upset or stoked. However after sleeping on it, I am pretty down with this selection. Right position and i think he could be pretty good. Hopefully we sure up the secondary a little bit tonight
I like this pick since Lawrence breaks his back every year. Gregory gets suspended every year. And Tapper is an unknown. Does anyone follow Joey Ickes on draft twitter? Goodness. I had to unfollow. Guy is just a total downer.
Nice that gives me a little more confidence in the decision. Now we just gotta get some DBs and itll be a good draft
