My god if we pay Dak 40 mil I'm done. That's my breaking point.
Several sources saying the 40mm number is false. Hard to know what the truth is. I could see some agent demanding 40mm. I could also see Jerry and co leaking 40 to put Dak and his camp off balance. There is no way in hell he gets 40. Even Jerry isnt that nuts
Cut him and let the free market reign. I'd rather sign ryan fitzmagic for 10 mil and pay Zeke and coop
No way id make a deal right now.
Make him prove it again. Even if it cost more in the long run it's better than making a mistake now
They’re paying him no matter what imo.
i've been watching old hard knocks stuff on youtube. how was dave campo a real nfl coach?
Dude i fell down that exact same rabbit hole. Holy shit was that team a mess. Obviously we dont have Tom Landry now but good god
Pretty stoked about the Jaylon deal. Word as of now is that he will be somewhere in the neighborhood of the 8th highest paid LB (13ish mil per). If that turns out to be the case its an amazing deal for the team.
5 years 64 million for Jaylon. 12.8 per year with 35 guaranteed
So with Jaylons extension, we have him locked up through 2025 (7 years) for a total of 69.5 million. Huge steal for this team. With Tank, Jaylon, and a couple more years of LVE, Dallas has a very solid core on defense. Now we will see what they end up paying the big 3. I wish they all had the same attitude about it that Jaylon has.
I think Jaylon is just thankful for being healthy and playing at a high level again. 69.5 million is more than enough for him
Jaylon so much
was hoping all the money would go to him and we would not have any for dak
40 mil a year for Jaylon and we can't sign Dak?
Very fun (albeit meaningless) game last night. Defense looks nasty and Tony Pollard/Michael Gallup continue to impress. Cant wait for September 8th
I just want you guys to know that in no way shape or form do I understand this thread's hate for Dak.
hmm i dunno probably has something to do with him being uhh not good
That’s ridiculous. He’s a perfectly adequate QB. He’s not among the top 5 but he’s fine.
I think the problem is that’s how we’re gonna have to pay him but by the time he’s halfway through the deal he won’t be.
Hes not worth 40 million. Period. That's my problem with him.
I dont hate dak at all and as far as the man himself hes amazing. A great leader, an upstanding citizen, an insane work ethic. That said, I have moments where I can't believe how bad the misses are. Last night was a great example of the enigma that is Dak Prescott: on the first 2 throws of the night he missed Gallup SO badly i couldnt believe it. He threw the ball a good 5 yards behind Michael Gallup on a crossing route. Then when the defense gets a turnover and gives Dak the ball back, he evades the rush and hits Gallup with a great throw. He makes it so difficult to discern whether hes good or not. He has headscratchingly bad moments and moments that make you cheer. A total enigma
I do not pretend to understand the NFL pay structure but is it so far fetched to just expect him to play out this season and prove he's worth the $$ he's looking for? Like the way baseball works? Guys in the final year of a contract almost always have a career type season to get that next level loot.
Dak wants SB champ QB money. Bring us one or real damn close and get it.
I’d rather the cowboys wait and see what the open market shows what Dak is worth. But I’m much more ok with paying him versus giving Zeke anything. I’d either trade him or make him play out his contract/hold out.
You’re a lot more likely to make it through a baseball season unmaimed than football and their contracts are totally guaranteed
Tough situation to be in, dak is just ok but the market dictates him making a shitload of money. What would be the options if it’s not dak? You won’t draft in the top 5, getting a qb from another team is almost impossible via trade. Free agency? That would be expensive as fuck
Some interesting quotes from Zeke in this interview.
“I love playing for the Dallas Cowboys, I love the organization, my teammates. I do want to be a Cowboy for the rest of my life and hopefully that’s a possibility. But even Emmitt Smith, the greatest running back ever, ended up going to play a couple of years for another organization. So it’s just the nature of the game, but I want to be a Dallas Cowboy for as long as I can.”
I think 6-7 years is the perfect amount of time for Zeke to be in a Cowboys uniform.
Just long enough for a 5 year rookie deal with his option and a franchise tag or two.
That's the thing about the open market. You pay more on it. There is a reason teams try to retain quality players before their final season. They know more about the player than anyone and if they really believe that the player is going to do as good or better in the coming season it will wind up costing them even more the following season than it does now. Why? Because every year the price of business goes up. Dak's not going to get 40M. He knows he's not going to get 40M and his response to questions about it indicate that he may not have ever even asked for that to begin with. He'll probably wind up somewhere around 31-34 per year and that will seem like a lot but once he hits the middle of his deal it will seem like nothing special. There's a decent change the new CBA could significantly change the cap too. He may wind up looking like real bargain at that point.
I’d be shocked if he signed for less than $40MM/year
Based on what? He has no argument he’s top in his position, which is what it takes to set the market
Well, get ready to be shocked. It'll be just north of the Wentz deal probably. I think you can take Jerry and Stephen at their word when they say they're not looking to be market setters. The only one I could see them potentially doing that with is Zeke and thats only because he's arguably the best at his position. Even then, his off the field troubles and the shitshow that the Gurley contract is makes me think they'll wind up just south of Gurley.
Reminds me of Jake Bentley
I'll have some of what 40+ mil a year guy is having
I apologize. For some reason I thought Wentz was getting $40MM.
We just PAID La’el Collins
Lmao well it was fun being decent for a few years welcome back to 2010-2013
Gotta disagree with you there. Jerry used to pay top dollar for all the sexy players and never invested in the trenches. Ever since they started investing draft picks in the o line, we've become a much more stable team. He just did it far too late in Romo's career. The contract for Collins will be little more than a blip in future years as the cap continues to grow and a new CBA comes out. Most people I've heard talk about the Collins deal look at it favorably.
I just don’t think much of him as a player and it seemed the better cap move would have been to kick Williams out and let McGovern take over LG
i love him
Paying him opened up cap space this year that they probably need for the other deals and i dont think they are convinced that Williams is gonna be that guy. McGovern is a total question mark given the injuries IMO
seems like collins is well above the league average at RT
The texans just traded 2 firsts and a second for Laremy Tunsil. Ill take a solid RT for 10 mil all day
Let’s not let Bill O’Brien set the market for anything we do moving forward lol
JHB is a known idiot
Aren’t you planning to vote for a Redditor for President?
Heard on the radio that it was speculated by a number of people that he could have gotten significantly more on the open market and that the deal was incredibly team friendly.
Also, you just spent all this time having Williams turn himself and his body into a guard. You feel that confident that he can play tackle in the league that you're willing to just let Collins bounce? What has McGovern shown you to make you think he can just swoop in and take over at guard? He barely did anything this year. He was hurt all of camp.
Fair point lol
I am being harder on him than I should but I just don’t trust Collins all that much
