They'd be making a big mistake. Who the fuck wants more Mike Greenberg? He already has a TV show. Lebatard show is different.
don't even think it's that. Their ratings are through the roof. Got a feeling it's simply a president who doesn't get the show and wants to get rid of them.
I don't think it's him not getting it as much as not liking the content. Personally I think it's pretty dumb to not delve into a political topic when it intertwines with sports but I guess management disagrees. To me it's weirder to pretend a topic doesn't exist than it is to address it, regardless of your opinion on said topic.
Greenberg is literally everything the Lebatard show isn't. It's safe, completely ordinary, non-controversial, and just softball interviews to praise commissioners and athletes who would never get a tough question. But LOL he makes fun of his germaphobe personality sometimes! Edgey!
Lebatard about the only thing that’s not live sports I’ll watch/listen to ESPN for. Don’t think I’m the only one that feels that way
I only listen when I'm working and have time, but it's the only ESPN radio show I listen to on any consistent basis. I only listen to other shows if there's big breaking news.
The show has certainly ruined traditional sports talk radio for me, though in the past I used to listen to Jim Rome (late 2000’s) and followed that up by being a fan of SVP & Rusillo’s show before svp left to go to do his sportscenter gig. I’ve been listening to the DLS on a close to daily basis (vast majority via podcast) since early 2016 and don’t listen to anything else on ESPN radio so if they leave I’d be gone as well. Even if Mina got a show as mentioned in the NY Post article I don’t think I’d listen. I’m a fan of her but don’t care for a traditional “X’s and O’s breakdown” at all.
Why don’t they have a simulcast setup on espn news where you can see everybody? Would really enjoy seeing Stugotz’s horrifying face
They did?? I feel like I've been watching daily since I've been working from home and don't remember that. I did see they had Dan set up with a webcam for Highly Questionable yesterday for the first time in weeks.
I thought it was a joke when I saw it mentioned on twitter, but greenberg. hey norby, go walk into the ocean.
essentially. You know how boring greeny and jay Williams will be? I’d honestly rather listen to the radio call of cornhole. I bet the suits at espn got sick of the show winning the race to talk race. I for one have thought that the last couple months has been the best the show has produced in years. This hurts
From 4 hours to 2 in the span of a year. Got to think they bail when their contract is up in 2 years.
It’s like they are daring them to leave. Give me four hours and give Bomani whatever he wants to join the show.
Bomani is getting a little too confrontational on Twitter to take over. ESPN frowns on any personal opinion being voiced.
Nah I mean join the clown show down in Miami. Obviously it’s not going to happen but I really enjoy him being back on HQ.
Oh no doubt. I love Bomani. I think they should’ve made him a permanent host back before they started HQ and high noon. The dynamic with him, Stu and dan is awesome
Bomani and Stu are on opposite ends of the sports journalism spectrum. Makes for some good listening/watching with Dan leading and the shipping container assisting.
He’s able to turn it off a bit when he joins lebatard. Doesn’t take himself as seriously and he’s hilarious. They bring out the best in each other.
Dan talked with the execs and told them he felt like this change was a demotion (which i tend to agree with) and was told it's about a pivot to digital/podcasts and not a demotion at all Still going to do three hours of content as a group (plus the shipping container local hours as have been the case since they left 790) but that third hour will be digital only, looser, no FCC guidelines, etc. Neither Dan nor Mike was sure how often Stu will want to stay on for that third hour in the studio (whenever they get everyone back in South Beach) This pod was all recorded last week, after they'd been told of the changes to their show and what the overall lineup would look like, but before they went on vacation and it was officially announced by the company Dan (rightfully imo) seems pissed off about the changes but mentioned that they still have 2 years on their contract but I don't see how they stay past 2022 with the current leadership at espn. Spotify or Sirius/XM seem like the most logical destination, but that all depends on if Dan doesn't just retire altogether after this contract.
Do people really think Dan would retire? He’s only been doing radio since 2004. That’s not that long and he’s currently as popular as he’s ever been. I just don’t see him stepping away in 2 years when his contract is up.
He's got more than enough money and really doesn't have that expensive of taste. Everything he owns and does is 1st class in terms of cost, but he keeps it to one city. He's not like most rich people who have multiple houses sitting empty most of the year all over the country. He's also not getting into a bunch of crazy business deals with his entourage on restaurants or nightclubs that will almost certainly fail. He could live the way he is currently living for the rest of his life and be just fine imo. He could easily ride off into the sunset and just write an article for the Miami Herald every couple of years like he is currently doing. He's definitely not thrilled. While I would love a move to satellite radio, I'd miss losing the TV aspect of the show. It adds so many more layers that makes it so enjoyable to follow.
I guess his demeanor and marriage just have people speculating but I don't see any indication of retirement. He is wildly loyal and he sees how he is able to elevate others and he's the key to that. You think someone like Mina is given that early platform if its Stugotz and the Shipping Container? Dan is the one who can provide the leverage to give others opportunity and I don't see how he gives that up.
Mina, Bomani, and Pablo all owe Lebatard a debt of gratitude for the opportunities they have gotten since.
and if he knows he can provide that opportunity to more women and minorities, he's going to stay in that position. Sarah Spain too (whether you like her or not....she was a sports flash personality before she started appearing on LeBatard)
Maybe I shouldn’t lump him in with other radio hosts but guys like Jim Rome, Dan Patrick, and the most popular political radio hosts don’t just retire at the height of their popularity. Those people have been doing it for multiple decades. Remember when there were rumors swirling around mike and people thought he was going to leave the show only to find out that was the start of his DJ gig? I jus don’t see these guys splitting up anytime soon.
Are you sure dude? Maybe the 20th time of ESPN shoving Greeny down peoples throats will show how great he is.
