What do I need to listen to the podcasts after their last ESPN day? I've always just used the ESPN app or the TuneIn Radio app. Obviously it won't be on ESPN, but I wasn't sure if it would still be on TuneIn or if there was something else I should be using?
They don't have a deal with an actual live station. They could swing YouTube live or something but who knows what they have in mind. They don't really have a staff anymore other than themselves My guess is they start to look like something barstool would do from a distribution standpoint.
I still think they are going to be backed by Spotify or someone. TV only added three staff. I think they could swing it. I listen on the podcast but I love seeing the video highlights. I wouldn’t be surprised if they go podcast only but have a skeleton video crew for highlights.
Gotta go group 1 Hopefully Sarah Spain's huge knockers end up making an appearance by the end of the night.
the final word stated on ESPNs property by the Dan Lebatard Show, is Stu Gotz saying Penis. They tried to change his name 10 years ago because of what it meant and they leave using the word penis.
Excited about the prospect of the friends of the show possibly still being able to be involved somewhere down the line.
so they podcast only now? is that a lucrative avenue. I know Dan/Stu aren't hurting for money but is this way sustainable?
Since they're already so well known and have such a strong following, probably. But they're going to try to find a place on TV/radio again I'm sure.
The only question in my mind is if a podcast alone could generate enough revenue for them to cover the entire crew's salaries. That's a big group to just be operating a podcast that can typically be managed by 2-3 people.
Correct, or they could just do the podcasts for a little bit to show how loyal their fan base and negotiate a sweet contract at like Sirius XM or Spotify or whatever.
Yes..ball park math is they would make about $30,000 per ad per month ($30/CPM 1mm monthly listeners) They might run somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 ads a show. That's $300k in ad revenue per month. That doesn't include any simulcasting which I am sure they are going to do, for instance if they streamed the show live on youtube or twitch and had subscriber functionality + additional ad revenue. If they had 30k subs at $5 a pop and they bring home 85% thats another $125k/month in revenue. Then you account for all the other heavily followed sub-network shows (mystery crate, leb and friends, south beach sessions, stupodity, etc.) and you see how this can make some serious cash. Say I am under repping those numbers a bit and they can average 600k-700k a month in revenue, minus overhead of 25% (can't be that expensive to run a podcast) thats $6mm++ a year to split amongst the team. Dan was apparently making $3.5mm a year including highly questionable, so you assume hes going to take a paycut. There should be plentyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy if they wanted to go independent. I still think they are going to pick up a Spotify or other partner to do all the heavy lifting.
Pardon My Take gets like a million a month in revenue, I think you’re underestimating what they could do. but yeah, that’s the formula.
This is the play as if they had always known it. Power in volume so partners can buy into a network of shows instead of one-offs. It's the model 5Reasons uses for example (to a much lesser extent, obviously). They will have to increase the team though I would think. At least a sales person or two to start at bare minimum.
