Ended up signing up for the half marathon, it’s this Sunday. Ended up sneaking in a 10 miler like someone above suggested. Did a long run of 8 miles Saturday, now I’ve started my taper I guess. My feet and legs have been killing me for about 2 weeks as I’ve tried to cram a 10k into a half in less than a month. Hope to finish in under 2:10 to 2:15, would like to do it in under 10:00 Pace. My legs and feet are enjoying this taper time but my mind and heart are telling me to keep up the running....weird feeling.
Oh and I feel like I’m gonna weigh 300 lbs by the time this race comes Sunday. Figure I’ll start hydration and some carb loading Thursday.
Half marathon in the book boys!!! Time was 2:08 which I was gunning for under 10 a mile. Holy shit was my body under duress tho afterwards, felt like puking, light headed, almost feel like a would have had a heart attack if I ran a few more miles lol. Thanks for talking me into it fellas....what a day!!!!
Now that I’m a day out from my half I’d like to get back into working out ASAP since I have a 10k the 1st weekend of October. Thinking about doing some light cross training tomorrow on my max trainer, take Wednesday off, light XT on Max trainer on Thursday, maybe Friday off, and a short easy jog Saturday (2 or 3 miles). Still pretty sore a day out but don’t want to lose what I’ve gained this past month, also don’t want to injure myself going back too soon how do you guys taper back up?
You need to go for a walk today. Light jog no later than Wednesday. You need to get the blood flowing. The longer you wait the more sore you’ll be. Stretching and foam rolling ASAP too.
Cool maybe tomorrow I’ll go for a light jog, everywhere I read say unless you’re running a half in under 1:30 take a week off, I like your advice better. I’m back to work tomorrow and spend most of the day on my feet walking, that’ll help.
I’ve am a big advocate of recovery runs, stretching, foam rolling and yoga. I think taking too long hurts you more than helps. Your body will tell you if you’re working too hard. A light jog/walk imo is goo.
Running a 9 hour and 11 minute ultra on Saturday as part of the American Heroes Run. It’s just a flat one mile loop over and over. Signed up like 10 days ago lol. Fuck it. Needed something to jump start training for 50 mile Dead Horse Ultra in November, so naturally I go to the extreme.
Running a 10k this month. Just decided to do it in a whim. Ran 4 miles the other day with ease. Felt good
My first half pace was pretty good. Think I got like 28+ miles in the first 4.5ish hours. Back half was slow going. A lot of alternating between walking and running. Biggest problem was trying to avoid cramping. Ended up being about 90 degrees and there was no shade along the course.
Ran 5 today. It was in the 80s I was dying. Can’t imagine doing what you did. That’s awesome. Can’t say I’d be able to or even try. Again hats off.
Yeah and I didn’t listen to any music the entire time. I had my headphones in my bag but never bothered. You get a lot of time to talk to yourself... Like “get moving you fucking bitch” was popular today.
Anyone tried/like On brand running shoes? I kind of want to give them a go. I've been wearing ASICS Cumulus for years that are great for running but they're just so goddamn ugly.
Have a friend who runs in them. Says he enjoys them for half marathon distances and shorter. Any more than that and he starts to get pain from lack of support. He recently switched over to Hokas for longer distance stuff and he’s loved them. He was hesitant at first thinking it would take a while to get used to that much support under foot but I guess it’s been an easy transition. I considered exploring them, but I have pretty flat feet and it seems like On runs a bit more narrow. My core brand rotations right now are ASICS (road running), Altra (road and trail running), and Salomon (trail running).
Anyone have the PowerBeats Totally Wireless? The earpiece on my other PowerBeats fell off so I’m in the market for a pair that will pair with the Apple Watch.
I love my Boss soundsport frees. They sound a lot better outdoors than my Powerbeats 3s. They connect really easy to my Apple Watch 3. I can’t recommend them enough. Right now they are about $50 cheaper than the wireless Powerbeats.
I think that’s the perfect distance for those Altras. Anything longer and I think most would start to have discomfort from minimalist support. I’ve never pushed them beyond that. They are built for speed more than anything.
