First place in the 30-39 group at the New Orleans Race to the Rescue 5k supporting local dog rescues. Slow but a win is a win.
I'm relatively new to this so excuse me if I'm asking a dumb question Where does everyone go to find nearby races? I ended up doing the Thanksgiving 5K because my sister and aunt were already doing it, but I don't really know how to find races myself. I want to try to train to break 25 minutes in my 5K and do a 10K this spring and wondering what everyone finds to be the best resource.
go to the expo of a half or full marathon near you they’ll have other races there. Just sign up to get email information about the races. I get random emails from races all the time.
Oh you’re good then. Tons of info here: https://charlotterunningclub.wildapricot.org/ Train up to run the Charlotte half/full next November. It’s a good race.
Everyone should try to run the Cherry Blossom 10 miler at least once. It’s by far my favorite race and is always a great time. Lottery for 2020 just opened up. www.cherryblossom.org/generalinfo/entryinfo.php
runningintheusa is a great race resource. ALL upcoming races in North Carolina: https://www.runningintheusa.com/race/list/nc/upcoming Upcoming 5k races in Mecklenburg county: https://www.runningintheusa.com/classic/list/mecklenburg-county-nc/upcoming/5k 10k races in Mecklenburg county in Spring 2020: https://www.runningintheusa.com/classic/list/mecklenburg-county-nc/03-19-2020-to-06-20-2020/10k/
Thinking of doing the Urban Bourbon or Nashville next year. Not 100% decided as of yet, nor which. If I do, I might try my first full in 2021. My goals are ludicrous at this point.
The minis. Wanted to try them and didn’t see any reason to spend a lot when I have others that work. Having something where I can hear while with the dog was priority #1.
Finally got my first sub-2 half. 1:57 in Atlanta and could have been faster but I got lazy towards the end. Crazy what you can do when you actually train a little for these things.
Bump my old running shoes are falling apart. I only run 3-4 miles 3x a week so not looking to break the bank. Thinking about going back to the Nike run free fly knit but it’s been a few years and curious if there are better options in that price range. thanks
finally picked up a pair of the Pegasus turbos you and Fecta23 recommend. I found a pair on GOAT for like $80. Can’t wait to run in my “pride” shoes. I didn’t read the description and just learned that they were the “be true” colorway.
What kind did you get? I’m still rocking the ghost 11’s but they’re almost 2 seasons out now. Worried about having to find another...
Agreed. I just rely on this and another website. They do a good job. also, Just go to your local running store
So I can safely say I did a shitpoor job of being worthy of this thread last year. 82 miles (+ probably 200 miles on the soccer pitch).
Just over 600 in 2019. Couple of half marathons, but took a big step back in races for the year. Looking to do more in 2020, including a full in November, though a looming shoulder surgery in Q1 will likely slow me down.
732 recorded in Strava in 2019 but had other runs that I tried out other apps or no phone running. Goal A: 800 miles + 3:20 marathon + 70 minute Cherry Blossom 10 Miler Reach Goal: 1000 miles + 3:15 marathon
Read a good article the other day about getting new blood to your legs after running and I’m going to try it out. The article said to lay on your back, scoot your butt up to a wall and hold your legs up on the wall for as long as you can. Said it drains the old blood out of your legs and they’ll be replaced with new blood after. Trying it now as I type, I’ll let you guys know how it goes.
I'm going to try this outside my apartment complex tonight after my run just to see how many weird looks I get.
Can’t remember who suggested to me after my half to go for a short run the next day to get the blood flow back in my legs but it worked wonders. I assume the propping your legs up does about the same shit
Looking at a 10K and a HM this year. Goals are sub-1h for the 10K and sub-2h for the HM. No real total distance goals, but 1,000 miles would work. I plan on doing hill repeats weekly, so distance won’t be as far as under other circumstances. More than anything, just working on time and body recomposition (still).
My wife just told me she wants to start training for a marathon so that’s exciting. I’m in the weight loss contest in another thread so I’m not a good training partner but our 12 year old daughter will be.
Haven’t picked one yet. She is a casual runner and former college athlete now in mid 30’s. What is the time frame to look at? Our daughter is a competitive track runner and we decided to get ourselves back in shape and more active this year.
They’ve got couch to Half plans that are around 20 weeks. Maybe see if her race has a half or 10k that same day if she wants to do it sooner than fall.
Looks like there are a couple half in March and may around us. We are in the Wichita Ks area. I’ll start jogging tomorrow!
Start slow, walk some, jog some, walk some more lol. I would pick something to start, a mailbox, a stop sign, and say “I’m going to job to that mail box and then walk”. Don’t overdue it to start and get hurt, I made that mistake and it maybe set me back a year.
Go to a running shop and get fitted for shoes, I made that mistake too and finally found what worked best through trial and error, a lot of pain, and money.
I do it all the time. Just make sure to throw some incline in there, or race day hills will fuuuuuuuck you up.
Good way to start, that’s how I started. I don’t really care for it now. Mine burnt up from lightening last spring, my mom told me she’ll just give me hers and I won’t pick it up because I want excuses to run outside. Zero degrees is the coldest I’ve ran in so far this year and I’m sure it’s gonna get worse lol
