It depends for me. If I'm doing 4 or less, I actually really enjoy it 75-85 as I feel like I get a really good sweat despite not going for a long run. Obviously this is different depending on humidity.
So I’m six foot one pushing 210, basically running to feel better and maintain weight(losing some would be nice but I eat like a mongoloid). Current pace is basically 9 minute mile and usually able to get just past 3.1 miles. I guess my goal is a sub 25 minute 5K. Any advice? How much weight would I need to have an impact on my pace?
Fucking trash run just now. I loathe the sun fr. Was hoping for a good one because I'm likely about to take 4 days off. Oh well. Probably be good for me.

Quick 2-mile tempo run at lunch. 9:30 9:00 First time I’ve been at 9:00/mile in over 25 years. Now just have to get my regular training runs down to there. Pretty damn happy about it.
Tips for shin splints? I've been working my way back into running shape over quarantine, usually going between 3-4.5 miles about every other day. I finally did a "longer" run last Saturday of about 6.5 miles and, while I felt fine the whole time, I've had an obnoxious shin splint ever since. It's not debilitating, I was able to run 3 miles on it yesterday, but it's sorer again today and I'm thinking I should take a couple days off to let it heal so it doesn't get worse. Is it as simple as warming up/stretching before longer runs? I don't usually do either, just hit the road and go, but guessing I should change that for longer runs in the future.
Hello, yes, this is something I have gone through quite a bit in the past First you should get a shin splint sleeve. I have had my pair for about 6 years now. I rotate what shin I wear mine on every run. Also, don't stretch before a run. This will only weaken your muscles. Do movements such as light lunges to warm up. Finally, you might need more time off, which is the last piece of info you want to hear. I also strongly encourage you to build up your calf strength. I had some of the worst shin splints and plantar fasciatis 6-7 years ago and had to see a specialist to mitigate the pain. I bought the shin splint sleeves, did better warmups, and hit the calves in the gym, and I haven't had them since.
I had been suffering some lingering tightness that I was struggling to identify and finally settled on it being knee ligaments (it was too high up for the calve). Got to reading and discovered that some people suffer that sort of soreness as a result of not stretching out the ligaments during the run - which is to say not using mechanics that allow for the full stretch. So I tried to focus on getting full extension through the knee while running, making sure that my leg was straight before lifting the heel (and ultimately driving off the midfoot) and it was remarkable how dramatically that impacted the situation. If I lost my focus a little bit, I felt the stiffness creep back into the picture, but every time I focused on the mechanics it went away. Hoping that now I understand it better I can get to the point where I instinctively do it without thinking about it because it's slowing me down and I had already kind of plateaued performance wise.
I am not a bigger stretcher, but I do put my legs through some rolls on a foam roller daily. has kept me pretty pain- and injury-free.
Dynamic “stretching” before the and static after. Walking or lounges before. Foam rolling and compression pants under the shorts. Strength training too. Since I have doing those things I haven’t had the issue I used to.
Started running again. Intentionally going stupid slow. Still hit 161bpm heart rate, but interested in figuring out that 130-140bpm method, whatever it's called.
It's Arizona, so picture the devil's asshole and times that by 1000. But today was about 78 on the way out the door and was low-mid 80's I think by the time I was done with 3 miles. And pretty minimal shade.
Yeah the lowest it's been in the month of June was 73 degrees on the 10th at like 5 am. I am running as early as possible but that's how it is here. Sun's up at 5 in the morning, too. Thanks for the info though!
I ran this morning, instead of at lunch like I did on Monday and Tuesday. It is unreal the gulf of difference in running in 84 degrees and 65 degrees. App says I hit a PR on 5K of 25:28 I really really want 24:59 real bad. I don't know what my goal will be after that. This is the probably the longest I've kept with this. I started because of coronavirus boredom. Tomorrow is a much needed off day. I plan to celebrate the return of my team in the Premier League with 5 miles on Friday and tacos to pregame. /nobodycaresfreak
slumps suck. Haven't had a good go in like 3 weeks. Pretty sure it's sleep/nutrition. At least it feels like I have control over it. Hrrrmph.
I like to treat myself to Liquid I.V. Might be a placebo effect, but I feel better and recover a bit faster. Might also be because it's delicious. Only buy it at CostCo when it's on sale though
jesus, not even lol My routine has been to run at the end of the day and I just haven't been careful enough about making sure I eat steadily throughout the day beforehand. And I'm getting to sleep too late I suspect.
I've been getting back into running a bit more recently and was looking to get a good watch to use to track distance and time. Notice a few garmin ones that connect to spotify. A little pricier but it would be nice to be able to listen to music and not carry my phone. Anyone have any recs for other brands? I was looking at the forerunner 245 and vivoactive . Both music versions seem to be the same price.
If you have an iPhone the Apple Watch is a no brainer. You can listen to music and receive calls and texts. Battery life leaves a lot to to be desired but depending on how long you run it might not be an issue.
