Did my first speed workout (hills) this morning for the first time since my foot injury. Went great, so I think I’m in the clear. Got nine at race pace on Friday and then 19 Saturday morning. Giddy up!
Weather was cooler this week and I wanted to get in 4 runs of 3-4 miles. Instead, work has been a shitshow and I’ve gotten in 2 runs, today’s having stopped at 2.5 miles because I had to take 3 calls and answer emails while walking back. Fucking hell.
5 miles tonight. 86F temp w/ 99F heat index but honestly it felt a little cooler than that at times - storm brewing west of me and felt a couple delicious cool breezes. Worst part was the bugginess. Got one right in the eyeball and the fucker stung. I gotta run in the morning more these buggy night runs suck.
3.1 miles tonight. Felt nice. No way it was this hot, where does Strava get it's weather data from? mile1 9:22 mile2 8:58 mile3 8:20 Partly Cloudy Temperature 89 ℉ Humidity 74% Feels like 105 ℉ Wind Speed 8.9 mi/h
What kind of socks do y’all recommend? My feet are soaked at the end of long runs. Is there a sock that’ll help?
I bought some Zealwood socks that are merino wool. They are fantastic and super breathable. ZEALWOOD Unisex No Show Athletic Socks, Merino Wool/Bamboo Ultra-Light Running Tennis Golf Socks 1/3 Pairs
like from your own sweat? I don't know if they actually help with it or not (never noticed the issue) but I run exclusively in feetures for the compression.
Got in nine this morning at race pace. Really pumped at how it went. 19 tomorrow, gonna be out before 6:00 me thinks.
I got my first two mi in each at like 7:50 and then my stomach cramped harrrrd and I had to walk it off for 2 mins. But was able to resume and finish 8, and pause aside I was able to pull off 8:20.
Ran 2.5 this morning and was almost home, saw a black lady pulled over with four fucking cop SUV's. Stopped to film what ended up being a very calm scene for fifteen minutes until my iphone literally overheated (thanks, Valley of the Sun). Made eye contact with her and got a and popped the phone back in my pocket and finished the last half mile home.
I did 0 miles this AM because I was working from 5:30-11am instead of the planned 6 miles. Another work-ruined plan. Hope to get it in tomorrow.
Today is my running day. Been having knee pain don’t know if I should try to power through or just hop on my peloton or take another day off to rest it. What sucks is it literally just started hurting a couple days ago out of the blue.
yeah I jumped on my peloton instead and instantly knew it would have been a mistake to have gone running. Pushing off on the pedal hurt so the run would have been dreadful.
So I finally decided to give up on looking at my pace and I'm going to start "Train don't Strain" philosophy. Hopefully just putting in miles week in and week out and my pace will come back eventually. Ended up averaging a decent 10:30/mi pace anyway. Probably still going to do speed work on the track on Wednesdays though. I do love those fast circles.
Got in ten this morning. Storm came out of nowhere with a couple miles left. Temperature dropped 10-15 degrees in about a minute and the wind was crazy. Sped up and was able to finish before most of the rain arrived, thankfully.
When I get bored with running and feel a lack of motivation, I need to find new things to focus on. Recently: 1) Improve cadence/stride rate. My normal easy run cadence is always in the 160's. What does Dr. Jack Daniels say? "One reason I strongly emphasize trying to run with a stride rate around 180 steps per minute is to minimize the landing shock associated with running. Keep in mind that the slower the leg turnover, the more time you are spending in the air; the more time you spend in the air, the higher you are elevating your body mass; and the higher you elevate body mass, the harder you hit the ground on the next landing. Believe me, it is during the impact associated with hitting the ground that many little injuries occur." So far I've had a couple runs in a row where my cadence/stride rate is between 171-174, so a little improvement. Will keep working on it. At first it feels like more effort, probably because my pace quickens a bit, but I just try to shorten my stride slightly and keep the turnover going quicker. 2) Different types of runs/workouts. I like it because it helps me turn the monotony of running into more fun. Tried two "progression" run workouts recently. I think there are many variations of this. I just go out and run a slow mile, then run each mile after a little faster. Give it a try. This morning: mile1 9:29 mile2 9:16 mile3 9:08 mile4 8:52 mile5 8:43 3) Stop a take a picture once in a while. Every run doesn't have to be a gruel-fest. Spoiler Good morning
ran 5 miles, 4 miles, and 4 miles the past 3 days. My feet hurt. I need new shoes. Too many miles on my altras
what size do you wear? I have a pair of ASICS if you want to swap for a bottle of bourbon and shipping. Brand new. I am switching to Nikes but don’t want just not use these. I also have a pair that I have five miles on (literally one run) that I’ll throw in if you want them. PM of interested.
That’s an awesome offer but I’d rather you donate them or give them to someone you know than an internet stranger who will likely not fit in them
The weird thing about running shoes is I’ve only had altras, for trail and road. I can easily keep buying them because I know my size. But then I’ll never try new brands. But then I fear the regret of trying a new brand and not liking them as much!
I have six pairs of running shoes. Two pairs of ASICS with 5 miles combined a pair with about 150 and the pair I just retired with about 250. I also have the two new pairs of Nikes that I am dying to get to. I’ll probably donate the four ASICS because they all look great with 2 pairs being basically brand new.
We’re looking at highs in the mid-70’s next week. I’m irrationally excited about cool mornings and good running weather.
In a shit mood, not feeling great, so I did a spite-10. Supposed to be over 100 tomorrow, so glad I got it in today.
Uganda bro beat the 5000m world record today. Record was 12:37 set by Bekele in 2004. 4:03 per mile for 3.1 miles lol christ
